Riven is a glass cannon BUT

DarkinPrime··3 votes·758 views

BUT, she gets a handy little shield that scales off of her AD and TWO hard CCs. Hard to kill a glass cannon when she stuns you 2 times and shields herself...and then spams it again seconds later with no mana restrictions. Her entire existence still sickens me, and has since nearly my first time playing league 2 years ago.

She's still a glass cannon. Watch how fast a riven dies if she's CC'd for even a second.

You can't use Valor if you can't move.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Not a relevant comment. There are other fighters that also will die quickly if CCed....but the difference is, she is more likely to CC you than other fighters, or use her CC to escape and if you don't quite finish her, and her escapes are much better than most other fighters.

Apocalypsic2 votes

It's plenty relevant. Her shield is conditional, if she can't move she can't use it.

Riven is supposed to be a hit and run combo based melee fighter, she has to have mobility to operate effectively. You realize she has garbage health regen and base stats because of her shield right?

As well her CC is incredibly short, likely among the shortest stun/knock up timers in the game.

Tell her to have fun trying to reach you without blowing her entire kit.

Stay out of range and she can't do shit - neither can she reach you quickly without flash, and walking backwards means another second and another dash she'll need to burn. Then oneshot her once the shield goes down.

If you're melee with a non-targeted dash - juke the third Q with it.

Riven has about equal damage to a burst mage, but she is melee. That means she needs to survive. Would you either have a chance to outplay a Riven going in on you, or get oneshot by a Syndra from range?

Please, lets just come down to reality. Have you ever chased a riven? You know damn well that even with some extra movement speed shes near impossibly to catch.

Everything else you said is just white nose. Yes, there is way to survive and kill any champion, even the OP ones or the ones who have broken features. That doesn't, in of itself, justify their current state. Ill take on a Syndra any day. At least I can build a Maw and pop a shield and kill her after her burst damage. And when shes on cool down, she is MUCH easier to stick to and kill her.

...I never said a word about chasing Riven. Everything I said must've really been white noise.

Syndra doesn't have to put herself in any notable danger to kill you, though...

"Stay out of range and she cant do shit"

The inverse of that is that she can close range and chase you down very easily with spammable movement abilities. Which is why i used the example of chasing her to illustrate her movement ability

Sounds good in theory, but... think about doing that in a teamfight.

That's why I said she has to blow her whole kit to get to you, mainly, her Q's. While spammable, they do have a 13 second cd at all ranks.

Ya know what dude....fine you are fight. Riven is fine, every champion is fine, no one is every OP or broken.

God damn, you people just compulsively have to argue any criticism of Riots designs

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

We only argue criticism when it is subjective and salt-based mostly.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Yes and you Riot drone always assume its from salt, not from 2 years and thousands of ranked matches and observations.

This is why we can't have discussions. No one can say anyone is OP because you will be immediately told you are wrong and salty. You assume salt, and you assume subjective. Assuming that I am not a rational person who has observed Riven in countless situations and came up with conclusions that are not based on a few bad matches or my emotions getting the best of me.

This is why people like you are the worst.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

You know that isn't true.

What you said was salt. Nobody said that you didn't have true points, but we have to dig through it all to get to the good stuff.

Now then, if Riven spams her Q to catch you, then beat her up. She just used all her offensivr potential to get you.

Now if she runs away, then boom. You get CS, XP, and she doesn't. You don't always have to kill.

People who irrationally plug their ears, refuse to listen to the solution, and call everybody who doesn't agree with them drones, usually don't have good conversations.

DarkinPrime1 votes

Nope, it wasn't salt.

Look pal, the fact is you will defend any champion in any state. You can always say just do this and that....THAT IS NOT THE POINT.

The game doesn't exist in a vaccum, there are surprises, team fights, mistakes etc. The fact that, if you play perfectly a non OP champ can beat a OP champ in a vaccum is irrelevant to figuring out if a champions kit is broken, toxic, OP or all 3.

Its not about finding a solution, its still about identifying the problem....and people like you never admit there is one.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

I agree.

This game is not in a vacuum. This is why I am hesitant to call a champ's kit toxic or broken.

There are too many variables to know for sure, including a possible skillgap or ineffective builds.

There may be a problem, there may not be. But at the very least "people like me" try to find solutions instead of doing nothing but complain.

DarkinPrime1 votes

But you aren't trying to find a solution. Saying to play better is not a solution, and is denying there is even an issue.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

It is a solution. It solves the problem of dying to her.

Frankly it is the only solution a player can implement as they are not on thr development team.

I imagine your problem is laning againt Riven as Aatrox?

DarkinPrime1 votes

It doesn't. Remember the vaccum? You are not always going to be able to do those things. You might have abilities on CD due to other enemy champions etc.

And no, I stomp Riven 90 percent of the time. But often when she wins its because of her ability to roam and get kills from behind because of her damage, off of my teammates

In a team fight Riven flanks then flash engages and drops her kit on multiple people basically killing all of them. If the Riven is good that is what she does. Why would a Riven use her entire kit just to get to you when they don't need to?

Don't act like Riven isn't strong or can't team fight. A bad riven player can't but the champion in the hands of a good player can do all of that just fine.

Also her Q goes on cooldown with the first use. With max CDR a Riven can space them out and have it up a lot. I'm not going to say she is broken but she is very far from weak right now.

Uh huh. Hell, an Annie could do the same. Same with a Malphite, or even an Alistar could easily Headbutt+Pulverize into an ace. Sure they aren't the ones doing the killing, but the kills are gotten equally well. They don't need to flash, and can get much closer without dying because, well, they're tanky.

The counter? Don't fucking group up that much when Riven is close to you and has flash. From that range, an Alistar could flash Pulverize and ace you.

A Riven does need to use her entire kit to get to you... unless she has flash and you don't. Combo's are pretty fast, but an Annie with flash would oneshot much better than a Riven with flash. She also has to burn her flash - is any juggernaut op because the counter to them is kiting, and they can easily get into range with flash? Having to flash to engage does not make a champion strong.

Never said she isn't or wasn't. Against a good team, without good hard engage, no Riven can engage to teamfight, though. Flanking to flash in doesn't work against a Twisted Fate gold card or Elise cocoon. With hard engage, playing Riven is much easier - but who isn't easier to play well when you have a Zac cc'ing the enemy team for a full three seconds?

And if she is spacing out her Q's, her dps is extremely subpar, and her mobility is too. She's not gonna catch anyone before they reach safety without burning multiple dashes in quick succession.

Good, because she isn't broken. Neither is she weak - never said she was, did I?

DragonManSquid1 votes

There is a reason she isn't pro play viable.

DarkinPrime1 votes

So what? And champions that are pro play viable often have low win rates at lower elos
