is Respect ban still a thing in LCS?

one thing i realised by watching dota2 esport is players having their best heroes banned. There isn't a single game with Miracle playing Invoker, or gH playing Io https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/624mnm/will_we_ever_get_to_see_miracle_invo_or_gh_io/

i remember in 2012 when froggen had anivia banned, Misaya had twisted fate banned, Alex ich had Gragas banned most of pros had a best champion that people feared, even when warwick was garbage he was banned against darien

is this a thing anymore? i don't even know i see every mid players playing syndra or talyiah, every adc playing the same picks (except morde only played by one dude)

Occasionally yes since the introduction of 10 bans you'd see the respect ban every now and then

Yeah, we see it consistently. I don't watch as much EU LCS as I do NA LCS, but in NA, Huhi's Aurelion Sol is almost always permabanned. Frogmen will still draw some Anivia bans. Since Meteos came back and wrecked with Olaf he can't play it anymore since it is a permaban.

After the TSM match with TL Reignover got his Olaf banned for the rest of the match and their next match.

There are other examples that I notice but aren't popping in my head right now. Respect bans happen though, across all roles.

Some of the LCS/LCK commentators are saying it's a thing with patch 7.5, there being few enough OP champions and enough champions on par with each other you'll ban who your opponent is good with instead of what's strongest.

against clg a sol is a pick or ban champ, against everyone else he isn't even a champ

I saw Viktor being a respect ban against... Crown...? is that even a midlaner... or someone, but to be fair Viktor was also a normal ban.

Yes, kinda. I rarely see a situation other than Froggens Anivia where someones pocket pick is banned. Usually if someone is good at a high priority pick its permabanned(i.e. Reignovers Olaf) but that's about it.
