Tank viktor top likes his Q, mid viktor likes his laser for clearing casters.

Sadly he will (likely) be gutted until Riot finally figures out what his core gameplay is, and balances around that. It seems like since S4, that balance aspect disappeared. His Q should be more of a ultility, not this mega burst harass tool. The fact Kiin, despite Afreeca losing the games he picked it, not only picked it, but was kinda beating the shit out of Licorice, kinda tells you how strong it is. That and he pretty much can be labed top lane as a whole. Only Rumble and (I would presume) Tank Ekko can survive it out of all toplane picks, meta or not.

diesnt need to be gutted. just remove the mana scaling on his q and replace it with ap. easy.

mage viktor remains effectively untouched.

Then you're playing the wrong champion. Pick Riven and you'll solo kill his ass probably like 5 times, then he'll quit playing Viktor top because he'll finally realize that it's not as safe as he thought it was. He's only a safe pick against champions who can't work around his movement speed + gravity field. Riven can dash farther than his auto range, and avoid his W easily. That's not even to mention how you can build Maw as Riven and he'll never be a threat again. He's literally a free roaming 300g with two legs against Riven.

Exactly. Tank ekko was obnoxious for mostly the same issue.. perma slow and impossible to trade with his high defense. He gut gutted and reworked to the point tank ekko is being troll and his go to path is AP. Viktor like Ekko is a magic based champion, Ekko is half assassin but you still get the point. They were made to build AP, not tank and abuse of their kit to counter entire roster of a lane. Mage bot were annoying but they were building as intended and had counter. But champ that build tank, like Tank Ekko, Tank Yasuo, Tank akali etc.. build this to counter their intended weakness, while still dealing a good chunk of damage, thanks to base stats. They all got addressed and Tank Viktor is no exception. He need to be tunned back to build AP. I don't care if he goes top, but make him build AP to do damage, not tankyness.

There are maybe 3 exceptions to this rule of tank builds on mages 1. building tank items bc his cc in teamfights is that good as a tank... but tank galio top lane got gutted when they nerfed his waveclear to the point he can't survive there except as a counterpick to teemo... kinda 2. Building abyssal instead of roa on battle mages, oh wait, that got gutted 3. Buidling with dcap as your only ap, fun but also basically trolling unless the game goes to an hour

There is no counterplay for melees. The only counterplay a melee who isn't camille or fiora or irelia with fifteen gapclosers has is the jungler who you won't have in soloq.

What could be done to make him better in mid but not top? Pushing and roaming are the default tech for mid, and improving his pushing power would just make him even more oppressive top.

So, what, +5 movement speed? Lower Ult cooldown early to make his roams up more often?

and FNC won with it against EDG

Vik top didn't fail. He countered the Trox lane.

Now it didn't do much ELSE but it did its job.
