Stop bitching about "autofill" and learn how to support

TLDR: in 2nd post

it did NOT do more harm that good... it did MUCH more good than harm.

not having autofill GUARENTTED anyone who picked "support secondary" was GIVEN support...

i got support as secondary support THIRTY games in a row....

now i get my primary roles about 1/3rd of the time..

all not having auto fill did was make it so no one but support mains would put support... even people who were WILLING to support, (like myself), STOPPED putting support because they would NEVER get their primary role.

all this did was make a downward spiral. people who would have otherwise picked support take off support as an option. this make people who had it secondary more likely to get support way to much and take it off as an option... and it was just a downward spiral.

there are FIVE players in a team. only ONE of those five is given support. if you want to be an ass and not learn how to support... you can take the dodge for your team. otherwise you can deal with they maybe 1/4 games u have to support as.

so other people don't get it 30 times in a row. because that's what NOT having autofill did

as a support secondary i not only can PLAY support as my secondary (which i stopped DOING pre-autofill becuase i was given it 100% of the time) but i can play my FAVORITE role at LEAST 1 third of the time.

and if i get my primary role if a person asks to swap... i WILL because unlike in season 6... i actually get to PLAY my primary role... FREQUENTLY. so if ne1 asks to swap i am MORE than willing to do so.

and on top of all that... if u take the time to LEARN support... around half the time you can get opposing support who wont be as good as you. and therefore you can almost guarantee your adc wins lane.

if i am not in a ranked duo.. i normally get my ADC to request a duo every 2 or 3 games. and if they are good enough for my take i WILL duo with them. and i can guarantee even MORE wins...

there is NO DOWNSIDE to learning now to properly play support.

Oh really?

  • It takes longer to get into games now because people are dodging when they get autofilled.

  • Forcing people into a role they either don't enjoy or aren't as confident in playing/skill at playing is throwing competitive balance out of whack. If my opponent is an autofill jungle I know the chances of winning are probably higher; same goes for my team... if I have an autofill ADC, I know that this game could be quite painful. That's not a good system no matter how you slice it.

I would rather have a longer wait time and get people to play the roles for which they play the best than I would have a bunch of people autofilled.

You make this sound like it's strictly a support issue, but I've had plenty of autofill adcs or jungles that are clearly overmatched and don't know what they are doing. You are telling people to simply "learn the role", well maybe they have tried and it isn't working for them, maybe they don't enjoy it and why play a game that feels more like a chore than it does a game? Have you considered that before constructing your "more good than harm" paradigm? I doubt it.

I agree. I also used to flame and rage when I got autofilled to support role, however things changed when I started to play Janna as a support. I have 67% winrate on her ( 40+ games ) and I also got the level 7 mastery. I'm only playing her when I get autofilled. She is so fcking easy to play and has a huge impact on the game with her lategame shields.

Just learn to play 1 support and you'll never have to worry about the autofill. Simple.

It's not like autofill is new either, it used to be called "5th pick."

i mean maybe the people who never put support secondary don't KNOW that it would give you support EVERY TIME you had it as an option.

THIRTY EIGHT GAMES IN A ROW PEOPLE.

go ahead and check my ranked match history http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-history/NA1/207008136?matchType=2 2/15/16 to 2/26/16 THIRTY EIGHT GAMES, count them we have autofill so the nice people WILLING to support don't get that kind of bullshit anymore

Umm, all I said was that 'Autofill isn't new.' Please don't attack^^"

I don't want to play support because it hinders my climbing.

I could support better than all the people I get on my team, but I'd rather play mid to carry them.

You not getting support as often when you put it as secondary, is because more people are playing support.

Support as gotten stronger in season 7, in comparison to season 6 in my opinion. With the addition/change of item 3107 item 3190 and the price reduction to item 3151 item 3116 . The ADC role is also in a better place, which indirectly effects the power of a support.

The downside to support is that you're support, you don't have as much impact as mid or jungle.

and that partially a reason people who DO like to support don't want to get it THIRTY EIGHT GAMES in a row? i think you support once out of every 3-4 games in a small price to pay for other to NEVER be allowed to get their primary role. unless they give up support ENTIRELY.

I didnt say item 3107 item 3190 for supports was healthy, i just said it was strong.

I did queue up as mid/supp for sometime last season, and I didn't care. I did get mid like 1/4 games.

My teammate that doesn't play support getting support is worse than that guy who keeps getting his secondary role. When my teammate gets filled support in diamond, they're going to feed. It isn't reasonable to learn every single role at a diamond level when the game encourages you to learn 2 roles.

That's really the biggest thing. THE GAME ENCOURAGES YOU TO PLAY 2 ROLES. Why queue up as anything else. You will literally climb faster playing 2 champs in 2 roles even if you got an automatic loss on an autofill, than taking the time to learn multiple roles. You just wont play as well with more roles/champs.

Your name gives me that strange sort of nostalgia; I remember, once, being particularly angry at a SwiftKitten. Maybe SwiftKitten is just an angering name; I've also had many instances of Deja Vu in my life, where I experience something and recall having had a dream about it or something. I can place myself in nearly the exact same circumstances in my memory... even though it's only then happening. So, maybe this is that.

But I digress.

If people avoid playing a specific role, maybe it would stand to reason that the role feels unrewarding and requires direct attention in more than just balance changes for champions.

Support is just a bad role to play on a personal level; everyone just pisses on supports and blames them for everything. They're also all champions who can't really make turnabouts, which is why mage supports are now a thing (and probably will be always).

People disliking support so inherently is a symptom, though, not a problem.

Autofill is only a problem for the higher elos bc literally no one is queuing for support, but up to plat yes learn to sup and stop complaining.

That is a far better system than autofill. Under the old system, everyone outside of a small portion of challenger players was guaranteed one of their top 2 roles and queue times were actually shorter than they are now (source: riot's official statistics http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/features/rethinking-ranked-fives-and-tuning-dynamic-queue).

Riot's statistics showed this simply did not happen often enough to justify autofill. Bottom line is that ranked is full of tryhards and players who play support well realized very quickly putting another role on their secondary caused them to lose more games. There was never a "downward spiral" and queue times never really took a hit. The fact that queue times before autofill was longer for 95% of players than after autofill was added shows just how unneeded it was.

Autofill is retarded for ranked. It needs to prioritize putting everyone on one of their two best roles.

and if your secondary role was support you were GUARANTEED support and would NEVER get your primary role.. that is NOT ok

That is completely okay. I would much rather a support who is on their secondary role than an autofill who is on their worst role.

If I could be guaranteed by secondary role 100% of the games if it meant never getting autofilled, I would take that deal every time. (Hell, I even changed from mid/top to top/mid to get better queue times even though it essentially meant I was playing my secondary role 100% of the time).

yeah you start to think differently have you get support 38 games in a row.. or is that somthing you would be ok with?

if your next 38 ranked games in a row you had to support you would be ok with that? if not... then stop talking...

It did do more harm than good. People get autofilled to support when there's no need now, as people who have support as their secondary will end up getting their primary while someone else is autofilled to support. It happens quite often and the system is sloppy. It IS a problem.

I don't want to play support.

Also, autofill applies to more than just support. I get autofilled to mid, ADC, jungle, and support at a pretty equal rate.

SwiftKitten881 votes

you know back in season 1-5. there was something called "pick order" it was a bullshit system becuase you should work as a team to give everyone a role they can play, rather than screwing someone over by giving them a role they cant play... but it did the EXACT same thing autofill did.

and we all dealt with it...

Yeah.... i don't mind auto fill support, or any other role except jungle. But NO, riot keep fking giving me jungle autofill, the one role i perform the worse
