Dominion players deserve more than just a summoner icon
I myself am eligible for this icon (150 wins), even though I barely played it. I'm being put in line with people whose sole LoL experience was Dominion. With people who persitedly tried to make happen something Rioters themselves couldn't make happen. With people participating in Dominate Dominion. With people enduring the countless bots. With people considering Dominion their core LoL experience.
I understand your decision and with heavy heart agree with it (with few "buts"). However, those people deserve better. To some of them, you're killing off their entire game. This is their Dawngate, and they are hurt. Some of them might be consoled if you welcome them to the main game with something more than a 2D square drawing.
#250 wins - Ward Skin
Base it on the capture point asset. Ward skins work across all champions on almost all maps, and it would definitely be a unique consolation prize.
#500 wins - Champion Skin
Of course making a Dominion-specific skin just for the specific few players would be a waste of resources. But it would be fair to gift them a skin that the others have to pay for. Just select a skin from the upcoming Mt. Targon event, or the next Skarner skin, and have all the veteran Dominion players get it for free.
#1000 wins - Free RP
This is perhaps the best way to say "Sorry" to people who tried so desperately hard to make it happen. It's something big and unpredecented enough to really make a difference. Just try to filter out all the bots, lol
The retirement of Dominion poses some other questions, such as "how are Moobeat and SkinSpotlights going to test stuff now?" (hint: something something sandbox), but I feel like you're underestimating the loss some players might suffer in this situation. Summoner icon is barely enough and it doesn't really distinguish true dedication to this mode.
