No one going to bring up malphite?

Dude's in every goddamn game and he's one of the most boring people to lane against in the entire game. Even if you somehow manage to bully him out of top lane (never going to happen) he's just going to win every single teamfight with two buttons later on.

Stop playing all those motherfucking Zeds, Yis, Rengars, Vaynes, MissFortunes, Lucians, Talons. Then Malphite's popularity will drop. Start buying Armor Penetration and Grevious Wounds.

Learn the god damn game. 5 moths ago if you'd QQ about Malphite being broken people would laugh at you. 3 Seasons ago, if you'd mention anything close to Malphite being broken, people would laugh at you, egg you and then throw you into the fiery pits of bronze for the dumb things you just said.

The only thing you got is a "it's gotten popular, why isn't anyone bitching about it?" fallacy.

I'm out.

The Bearded Bard8 votes

Jokes on you, I don't play any of those champions.

Also, what exactly is GW gonna do to Malphite? He has no innate healing and he's not gonna buy any healing items.

Beuhlakor2 votes

You are dumb.

LoL has been heavily modified during pre-season. Champions are not rising because of "sudden popularity".

Jax was average at best during S5. Pre-season gave him item 3124 and Fervor of Battle (overnerf right now, but buff next patch) and this is how his popularity has risen. Also, E changes helped him too.

DrMundo has been buffed but he also super-synergizes with the new masteries and this is why he is now strong.

Malphite is atm very strong because of how much garbage item 3035 and its variations are. Also, Thunderlord gave him extra-burst which is very handy against squishies and Grasp of the Undying gave him extra-sustain making him in either scenario, overall stronger. Also, AP items have been nerfed and as a result, many toplane champions cannot bully Malphite so easily anymore.

Yes, 2 seasons ago Malphite was "meh". But LoL has changed since then, champions were nerfed, items were modified and new masteries have been introduced since then. There is a reason why Malphite is strong right now.

I wasn't aware that many top lane champions were AP based champions.

That's a lie, adcs used to DREAD ap malphite.

Transgressor1 votes

Everyone still dreads AP Malphite, even to this day.

But the thing is, that's an off-meta pick that barely works. Tankphite is always better because he can carry instead and stay reliable. On a sidenote, APhite and Tankphite still do the same thing: Ult the backline carries or setup an ult-initiation. It's just that one assassinates them, and the other isolates them from the teamfight with tankyness.

The Bearded Bard2 votes

I dunno, I always found malphite a bit on the strong side, and I'm someone that really doesn't play a lot of AD champions.

Chrome Raven5 votes

"just play a whole different role in order to win vs malphite, come on bro its fair"- people that dont play top.

malphites e and w are beyondbroken top lane. ive seen bronze 5 malphites and diamond 5 malphites play the same exact way. this champ is NO SKILL/RISK high reward.

The Bearded Bard2 votes

Not like AP champs counter him anyway. He'll just grab item 3211 first back and you'll go oom trying to do anything to him.

Forcing Malphite to rush magic resistance makes him less powerful, especially because his E and his W scale with armor, he will do less damage and will actually be more vulnerable to the enemy AD Champions.

The Bearded Bard1 votes

It's more of an inconvenience to the malphite. He's still gonna be able to one shot you with his base damages alone if you're playing something like Viktor top.

Don't exaggerate, unless Malphite is building full AP or is tons of levels ahead he is not going to oneshot anyone with his base damages alone. He will outsustain and outtrade some AP champions during the early game with a item 3211, but not all of them. Vladimir, for example, does not use mana, and laughs at Malphite's attempts to poke him with his Q. With cooldown reduction, Vladimir is able to outsustain Malphite even with magic resistance and will win lane all times assuming no ganks from Malphite's team jungler.

I agree...dumb champ. Doesn't matter how you play him, he is super safe in lane and even if he dies a couple times he still autowins any teamfights as you said. He has a couple counterpicks such as Vlad, Zac, Mundo (champs that do magic damage and can sustain) but he doesn't get punished for losing these matchups or falling behind in general.

Most played toplaner with a 54.5% winrate. Infact people who first time him in ranked have a 55.5% chance of winning. Ridiculous. Source: http://champion.gg/champion/Malphite

His mana pool takes a big chunk out o his early game. Generally you can farm. Trying to take on a malph as an ad champ usually wont work. His teamfight is excellent, and the only "counter" to it is banshees, or not clumping.

I dont have problems with him tbh.

The Bearded Bard1 votes

Ehhhhhhh grab the mana regen mastery, grab the corrupting potion thing, there goes your mana problems. He's also gonna build frozen heart/fist, or even a ROA. Regardless, his mana problems don't last for long.

GundayMonday3 votes

You say that, but I've had a few diamond malphs (both on my team and the enemy team) whiff their unstoppable force.

Chrome Raven2 votes

then thats them fucking up, not the champ.

GundayMonday2 votes

Yep!

The Bearded Bard4 votes

Unlikely. Hit box is huge and the missile speed gives you very little room for reaction time. Sure it's possible, but that's more an error of the person playing Malph than it is the enemy actively outplaying the Malph.

GundayMonday1 votes

I 100% agree with you.

I think you're either implying that Yorick counters Malphite, which I'm going to go with you're wrong, and even if he did counter Malphite that's not really helping your case here considering you're telling me the only way to counter Malphite, who is indeed a boring champion, is to play an equally boring champion.

Or you're implying that Yorick is just as boring, popular, and straight oppressive throughout the game as Malphite is, to which I'll respond with you're wrong.

Yorick may not counter Malphite, but Malphite doesn't counter Yorick either. Yorick is one of the few AD champions that can potentially beat Malphite.

And you'd be wrong.

The Bearded Bard2 votes

Yeah dude you're right, he's only got the 12th highest pick rate overall and 1st for top lane and a 53% winrate because he's so fun to play.

/sarcasm.

Vexful1 votes

Saw that coming since the nerf to AP items with a rise in costs. Only thing top that can actually do anything is Chogath against him now. Passive sustain, gets tanky, pretty good AP damage for a tank too, and of course the true damage. Other than that, good luck.

The Bearded Bard1 votes

Yeah I understand why he's popular, I just don't understand why no one complains about it. Cho is nearly as boring, if not the same amount of boring. I play this game to have fun, I don't want to fight boring with boring.

Malphite, ironically, is countered by Mundo, another one of these "build 1 thing and win game" type champs.

Has anyone else noticed that the champs winning right now can basically build all of 1 stat and win, and any champ that can't (most bruisers) have low win rates?

Malphite is countered by Mundo, but Malphite outscales Mundo in teamfights, and has much more utility and durability against AD champions.

As I've been saying, AP champions don't necessarily counter him, just like they don't counter Rammus. A squishy mage going top against Malph is going to just as poorly as a Riven would. They'd run oom before making a dent and he'd murder them with base damages alone.

And that's why you don't use a squishy mage at top lane. You instead use a tanky mage like Vladimir Chogath Ryze Rumble

Malphite has been OP for a long time, but the preseason changes pushed him to the top.
