Ahri is the most popular, safest, and one of the highest win rate mid laners.

not just ahri mains, people who are forced to go mid occasionally and realize that ahri takes literally 0 skill and all you have to do is spam your Q in lane to win or go even because you can't die or get ganked unless you're bad.

RogueWill6 votes

Actually she is a bit mana hungry and you need smart mana managment in order to pull her off. If you just spam Q you will run out of mana relatively soon. But yeah she is easy to play and safe to play since is quite hard to gank her, specially after 6, without some kind of heavy lockdown

But being the most picked Mid-Laner while having better win-rate than Malzahar (Who is literally only picked by players that actually know how to use him) is perfectly balanced and fine!

im not an arhi main and mid is actually my least touched lane because i feel that i already do well there and most mid laners are so easy practicing them is a watse of time when i could be getting better at something im not good at. but no one here is saying arhi is op or giving any examples of that op-ness (she is not where she used to be but she feel its good now) its just that she has a high win rate. so people automatically equate that to broken ness not that people actually played her well. its at least possible and i have no problem with her at the moment (damage maybe but assassins and mages get everything across the board so its not a direct problem with her)

If you look at the winrates by games played, you'll see that Ahri has an abnormally high winrate for first timers, but her winrate on experienced player's isn't special. What the data suggests is that Ahri is easy to play, not that she's abusively OP. You can also see that her winrate drops to 52% in a 40 minute game, suggesting that if Ahri wins, its most likely during her midgame powerspike and people surrendering.

But bandwagoning against Ahri seems popular at the moment.

This is so true and it's bothersome that most people on G&B say that "just dodge skillshots" or "she's countered by a lot of picks"

aka low elo answers

A Miss Fortune6 votes

you can dodge skillshots, but the one time you don't and get hit by her charm, chances are you die or have to immediately recall without a flash.

Refdow5 votes

You can dodge skillshots and still die from her W and 3 dashes.

A Miss Fortune7 votes

"Just dodge the skillshots"

WELL OKAY IF YOU SAY SO

Bônes9 votes

Come on, man. Stop exaggerating. You have to be pretty low for that to kill you assuming you're not way behind. As in, so behind that you already lost.

RoyaiChaos2 votes

The same can be said with Lux or Xerath or Viktor, at least Lux.

Also, that's kind of the point. She has to do damage somehow. What are you proposing? Make it so that she only does 1/3 of your hp with a full combo? Ahri doesn't have the mana for that, and her cooldowns aren't the most forgiving either. It's not her damage that's the problem, it's her mobility. And not her ult either. She either needs a small nerf on her her speed boost or one on her base ms.

A Miss Fortune3 votes

Her mobility isn't the problem, literally all she has is her Q which very rapidly decays and also is her main damage, with a pretty fair mana cost that prevents her from spamming it all over the place early game, and her ultimate which comes on a pretty good cooldown. Not some bs like Katarina's ult but it has a pretty fair cooldown for being 3 dashes.

The thing is that as soon as she hits you with her charm, she's just going to kill you. Dodge her charm or die. It's not fun. Low elo Ahri players and high elo Ahri plays are SIGNIFICANTLY different.

Player of Games8 votes

Honestly Ahri is annoying to lane against, is ridiculously safe with three flashes that all do damage, a bullshit passive that gives her sustain (for what?), and overall making her a low-risk, high-reward champion. Most of the time she doesn't even need to land her charm, it's just a bonus. You get poked by a Q or two, and once you hit near half-health depending on her damage, she can just pop W, R around you a bit, and ignite you. The auto-targeted damage is enough to tick you down low, not to mention if she isn't an idiot a Q will probably land too.

LordGeovanni2 votes

you should me moveing around your lane enough with or with out her actually useing her q for her no not get easy hits off of you . arhi's usually use their q to farm more than poke and if you lined up with minions and stationary she gets both not to mention the missile speed isnt so over whelming that you cant dodge the second piece with out boots where most of its damage comes from. and you can dodge it comming to wards you if you have boots (unless of course you are either a statue or you only focusing on the minions and trying to ignore your lane opponent completely. passive wise that sustain is minor you have to build up 9 charges to use it you have to use 4 spells in the least early game it costs alot of mana and if you constantly pokeing its not that much of a problem its only a problem if you pokeing her, get her low, then ignore her, and then you want her to still be low 2 mins later so you can kill her which isnt realistic or smart mid to late game its how she stays in as a mage, assassin. edit: her ult are dashes not flashes. dashes get blocked by things like veigars e and azirs ult flash is a blink and completely bypass' it you are one place then the next there is no in between to get blocked

Ah yes, that slow Q travel speed (1700) that's on a seven second cooldown without CDR at all ranks, so amazingly easy to dodge when csing is choreographed when you're a melee assassin. Sustain on a mage is still sustain on a mage btw. Also, if you're melee or short ranged, poking her isn't that easy because of her 900 range on her skillshots. (975 on Charm) You also forgot about itemization on top of her dashes/movement speed.

That's the thing though. She can't 100-0 you without that poke. At level 6 if neither of you have backed and she only has a dorans, she cannot kill you unless you're the squishiest of the squishiest. Make her choose between Q-ing the wave or Q-ing you. If you stand in the wave she will Q and you will get minion blocked and hit. It's not until mid game where she can 100-0 an ADC or anyone else without MR/HP built. Even then she probably needs ignite to do so. If you get poked down to 50% and she hits 6 she will go in.

Steel Blossom1 votes

Name one champion who can 100-0 another champion at level 6, with just one doran's item. Lmfao, "oh but she has to poke you down". That's so fucking unique, right, a mid laner who has to poke first before going all-in. Man, completely unheard of, seriously. Yeah, just the fact that you have a mage icon makes me believe that you're one of those scums who abuse how broken Ahri is.

The main problem with ahri is how her INSANELY overloaded Q makes her too safe and low skill requirement.

Ahri used to rely heavily on skill and making sure she could get in a teamfight and charm carries, she also relied on outplaying enemy midlaners to get ahead.

Currently Ahri can just spam Q in lane for free sustain, damage, waveclear, ms, escape etc

NineTailedMystic18 votes

Spamming Q will get you out of mana real quick, even with a morellos. Any slow completely negates Q ms and then some, and it's not a reliable escape for anyone with any means of gapcloser be it a ms boost or dash.

Ancestor0075 votes

idk man, a speed buff and some true damage is not overloaded.

Lugg7 votes

Agreed. She is low risk/high reward.

Her Q is disgusting:

  1. She doesn't need to hit anything with it. Press Q, 200 move speed instantly, and no aiming required.

  2. 200 movespeed = 8 boots = 2,600 gold in an ability she doesn't have to hit anything with

  3. Q deals true damage and heals on top of that

  4. 7 second cooldown

  5. Hits back and forth

I'd love a justification for 200 move speed on an ability she doesn't need to hit anything with. Even if she only got it if she hit something 200 move speed is still bonkers for something that deals damage both ways and true damage and can heal.

The heal is a seperate ability.

The movespeed disapears very rapidly. It only gets Ahri about 200 more distance to fire her q and move than to just move. Try it yourself in game. You can line up with some minions (325 ms to 330) and test it. You'll get about the distance between two minions. As to why it exists, because it's her kit. Ahri's a kiting mage, it's what she does.

What a fucking stupid argument it is, im not even surprised with your being gold 5. I'm not saying Ahri is OP or not but this is an insane bullshit. So let's say, Udyr is OP too? Permanent MS, free, equal to 2600 gold. Those are their skills. What did you expect? Anivia has free GA, equal to over 2800 gold. Let's nerf. Find a better reason to nerf her. It's absolutely bullshit.

don't bring people's rank into account, that literally has no bearing on what knowledge they have of the game.

CreationFlaw5 votes

Meanwhile, people are going to complain she's one of the hardest midlaners cause she has two skillshots, one which goes through minions and doesn't get damage reduction.

Lil Soybean3 votes

Warning: Long post below. My thesis on why Ahri is an issue right now.

Okay, let's look at some of the arguments in Ahri's defense. You can always list a way to "counterplay" Ahri. We get it.
"She has less damage than X."
"She's not as safe as Y."
"Just dodge skillshots."

The problem is, those same arguments can be applied to pretty much every single one of her opponents.

So the question isn't, "Does she have a weakness?" The question is, "How do her weaknesses compare to the weaknesses of other midlaners, who she's up against?"

If their weaknesses were fairly balanced against theirs, then the numbers would say so. That's where the problem comes in. She's the most played midlaner in the game, and yet she is nearly the highest winrate champion in the entire game.

And that's the key point.

THE NUMBERS DON'T SAY AHRI HAS NO WEAKNESSES. SHE DOES HAVE WEAKNESSES. WE GET THAT. THE NUMBERS SAY THAT HER WEAKNESSES AREN'T NEARLY AS NOTICEABLE AS ALL OF HER OPPONENTS' WEAKNESSES. Please, understand what that means.

No, randomly listing weaknesses of her doesn't give a good defense against nerfs. It's like saying Preseason 5 Warwick was balanced because he was immobile. Yes, he was immobile, but that weakness didn't mean shit compared to all of his strengths, as shown by his massive pickrate/winrate inflation.

Just like the counterarguments for nerfing Ahri. "She's squishy, just CC her and she dies." Like all of her opponents in the midlane. Except she's much more mobile, and thus much less weak to getting caught out, than most of them. "Just dodge skillshots." Same argument that Nidalee mains used as she was 100% pick/ban in the LCS. Yes, skillshots can be dodged. But they can either 1) be too reliable, or 2) reward you way too much for landing one. In Ahri's case, it's a little of both. One charm usually means death. If she doesn't have the skill to land her charm, she can dash into melee range to hit you with it. "Just stand behind minions to avoid the charm." Her orb ignores minion collision. "Just stand away from the minions to avoid orb." ...charm...

Statistically, across literally hundreds of thousands of matches, playing Ahri means that you are much, much, much more likely to beat your opponent. Just by having her on your team.

Here's what's important to note. Even though having an inflated pickrate usually shrinks a champions' winrate, due to novices playing that champion, Ahri's winrate actually inflates massively as more people play her. Why? She has an abnormally high success rate for people who are barely picking her up. That suggests that the people playing her are at least partially being carried by her kit. (As TheOddOne put it, I heard.)

And get this. I keep seeing people defending her by saying that Ahri players are just skilled at her. Someone recently checked. Ahri is (or, within the past day or two, was) ranked 24 out of 48 midlaners in terms of avg. games played.

That means the average experience of people playing Ahri....is literally average. Literally average. That means for every 200+ game Ahri main pubstomping, there is also an Ahri noob with 5 games who is winning most of them just because of the way her kit is designed.

I don't understand how someone can get so defensive of Ahri to actually suggest this is okay. The only other champions who ever approach her current level of success (54%+ winrate WITH 18%+ PICKRATE) are champions who were horribly broken for a short time (Sej on Cinderhulk release, Preseason 5 Warwick, etc.) OR champions who are extremely uncommon (Malzahar, for example, whose winrate is high, but is almost exclusively played by his mains, who have a lot of experience with him. Similar to the old Heimerdinger phenomenon.)

The argument that "winrate doesn't mean anything" is a fallacy. Winrate on its own doesn't tell us much, if anything. But winrate with pickrate tells us a LOT.

The higher a champion's pickrate, generally, their winrate drops massively. With Ahri, her pickrate inflates, tons of people randomly start playing her with little to no experience, AND THEY BEAT EVERY OTHER MIDLANER IN THE GAME THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME.

These are the statistical facts. The only defense left for her is, "Well, I feel like she has counterplay, and I don't want her to be nerfed!"

The irony is that you're kind of proving the point. She's incredibly successful and has tons and tons of people playing her. When a champion is overtuned and extremely popular, naturally, more people show up to defend the champion that is inflating their winrate.

:/

Maybe the pick rate in itself, but isn't 46-54% considered decently healthy? Not optimal (probably 48-52% is truly healthy) , mind you, but nothing absurd.

And honestly? this Ahri thing seems very close to how the Vayne thing started.

A lot of laners were nerfed, but those two were hardly touched. Seems more of an overall balance issue than those two themselves.

Yeahhh, but I mean, Vayne can't go through walls or poke you from 900 range, every vayne has made it super clear that even though she's a bomb, she's "Short ranged" at the average adc attack range.

When a champion is played the rate ahri is, slightly over a 54% win rate isn't healthy.
