Why is Maokai specifically locked out of using Overheal?

It seems like he's one of the only champions who would actually be able to make use of it without an enchanter around, given the fact he's one of only around three champions who meet the viable conditions of having a heal and building enough HP for the 10% cap on Overheal to be a decent shield. And just to note, Overheal does not consider regen so other tanky self-healers are out.

But Maokai's passive doesn't heal him if he's above 95% HP. I'm trying to think of a reason why that might be necessary, and the only thing I can come up with is that his sapling damage was too high. Was. After he was adjusted and since tank items were nerfed at the same time as his update, he's too weak for that to be a reason.

It's more likely they just don't want to see Maokai, despite the fact the new Maokai isn't the Maokai that dominated pro and high rank play.

This needs to be changed, since he is the champion with the most synergy with that rune, but is locked out of using it. It's not like you're going to be going full AP Gunblade or building lifesteal on him.

Being able to save your passive when at full health is something many Maokai players are used to. Until Riot starts making changes to champions based on their active runes (passive stays the same without overheal, with overheal it activates at full health) I don't see a good reason to change Maokai's passive.

Maybe if Maokai mains say otherwise it could be a good idea.

They were used to having their ultimate, to saplings damaging upon landing. Clearly what mains say for a champion that didn't actually need a rework makes little difference.

No reason to hold out on a beneficial change just because changing it would be a change.

yes. we absolutely want maokai, widely regarded as one of the most obnoxious, unfun, boring champs in the game to get assistance. great idea.

And you are a prime example of one of the ignorant people who are acting like reworked Maokai is the same champion.

As long as I live I'll never understand the Maokai hate. As someone who's mained him for a long time I can tell you they ruined the shit out of that guy. I'm told it was for the Top Laners (I'm a Jungler/Support Mao) but now even top lane sucks. So who cares?

His W, which used to have serious range, got nerfed in exchange for damage. Then they took away the damage but didn't bring back the range. Then they buffed his seeds, but they buffed them too much so then they nerfed him. They reworked his passive which is a mixed bag, and his ult right now is fucking garbage.

It was an inverted Nami ult until I recently played Nami and her ult now moves at 3 times the speed!

Maokai is my first love, but they ruined the shit out of that champ, and they've never once apologized for it.

They tend to do this a lot, changing champions only to nerf them and never compensate. Unfortunately, this is especially impactful when the champion has had an extended period of strength. Maokai was not in need of a rework. Nothing in his kit was outdated. They simply didn't want him to dominate like he did for a year. And now he's been Kassadin'd. I use Kassadin as a verb for any champion who was so strong that they got nerfed to non-viable levels. That'd include the man himself, now Maokai, Azir, and Nidalee.

Oh, and another comment here was basically saying that my voice didn't matter because I'm not a Mao main. So let me ask you, since you are. Would you like to give up sitting on his passive in order to be allowed to use Overheal?
