What is, in your opinion, the worst designed champion in this game?

Some of you may say Akali.

Others will say Zoe.

Wise people out there would probably point their fingers at Kalista, Malzahar, or possibly even Yasuo.

I understand why people dislike these champions, they can be frustrating to play against, I get that. But allow me to explain why I believe that this......abomination......of a champion is, by and far, the most horribly designed champion in this game.

I'm talking about this guy...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zofk10ov20

There is nothing more aggravating than having to babysit this absurdity all......game......long.

You can't duel him. You can't kite him. You can't chase him.

You can't wait for him to run out of resources, because he has none. You can't burst him down, because he has a one big "NOPE" button.

Everyone says to just keep him CC'd. But, you have to keep him CC'd for so damn long, that his team will likely have taken Baron by the time you can actually kill him. Oh, and if you make one mistake in the CC chain, or he just happens to have a brain big enough to buy a QSS, he just spins away, laughing at the fact that he wasted your time.

People say to shut him down early, which is very easy to do. I've done it several times myself. The problem is you have to actively keep working to make sure he stays behind. Meaning, if you do that, you don't get to play with the rest of your team. You get ahead, push your advantage somewhere else, and......oh wait, there he is, already having put your tower to half or taken it completely.

And then if he happens to get ahead....you just lose! Because no one on your team has the capability to go toe to toe with him. Your team can focus him down and kill him, but by the time you're finally able to, you would have taken so much damage that the rest of his team can just clean you up.

All in all, Tryndamere is so......painfully.....aggravating on the fact that he demands resources to be constantly pushed towards him to make sure he doesn't take over the game. And, if at any point those resources are used somewhere else, he just sits, farms, and split pushes to the point to where he just can't be stopped.

I know he is somewhat high on Riot's VGU list, and I cannot wait until that day comes. Because then, I will no longer have to put up with this ridiculously, brain dead champion.

It's not bad design until Hashinshin complains about it on stream.

MasterYi is aggravating to play against If he manages to pick up even a few kills the game is automatically over unless you drafted a comp to exclusively counter him You didn't? Enjoy losing to this worse player rightclicking you to death and being untargetable half the time

I swear the counterplay on MasterYi is that his playerbase is full of idiots that will suicide, if anyone with a brain plays him you likely lost from champ select

Fiddlesticks by far.

You can wait out Trynd's ult. You can set him behind so that he's useless as fuck.

Gl ever doing shit against Fiddle.

He's behind? Well he still has two forms of point and click CC (one of which can affect the entire team and can be applied from fucking miles away), so he's still useful. He's ahead? Well he's going to fucking press R for the easiest Pentakill in the game, and you can't stop him because he just has to fucking use Zhonya's.

In lane? Good fucking luck trading. He'll silence and fear you and then just run away if you all in, will fucking nuke the shit out of you if he all-ins and you happen to be within 50 feet of a minion, can't be poked down reliably due to his W, out-pokes you with just E...

The absolute worst experience in any game for all other people in it. You can at least have fun against Trynd or Heimer if you counter them hard enough. Against Fiddle there is no such thing as fun.

I mean surely the newest champions such as Akali Pyke Irelia Camille Zoe are the worst designs in the game, simply because they are overloaded which on it's own breaks the core gameplay that was set 10 years ago. But my vote goes to these 2 mohterfuckers LeeSin Yasuo , Lee for starting the hyper mobility in champion design and Yasuo for starting the overloaded kit in champion design. Everything bad about champion design comes from these 2 and their popularity, RITO made Lee and he was by far the most popular broken abomination for years, since then almost every champion has some sort of mobility, later Yasuo did the same thing and every single champion had to have extra stuff tacked onto their spells to make the kit way too overloaded compared to previous designs, culminating in last 2-3 years where every single release/rework breaks the gameplay, some less like Xayah and Ivern , some more like Zoe and Rakan.

My vote goes for MasterYi in the battle of poorly designed kits this guy takes the cake. He isn't fun to play against Very few people find him fun to play You can't itemize against him He doesn't have any sort of real skill testing mechanic He has a very selfish design in a team game Even his art/skin design is lazy he is a basically a stick figure in a "ninja" suit with a glowing sword how original In his attack animations he passes his sword from one hand to another mid swing like WTF is that LUL The "Airwaves" that come out of his back like some carton fighter jet when he ults is dumb His older "skins" are basically all just chromas, his newer ones are just chromas with excessive particle effects His dance is bad, his jokes are worse

Yeah and it's completely coincidental that you literally just played against a trynd an hour before you made this post. People really need to stop complaining about champs they just lost to and wait for like a day before using boards. https://imgur.com/a/gpb2Cun

It's actually surprisingly hard for me to pin down a champion as purely bad design (excluding tryndamere, but that's only because of how his kit aged.)

For "bad" champions like, say, Akali ,Zoe ,Zed , you know, the ones that do too much or you don't have a choice against, that means that in the right hands they have good kits. Their kits have more self agency instead of outside agency, which means that even in bad matchups you aren't knocked out of lane the moment the game begins.

We have kits that do too much, Azir and Kalista , for example. In the right setting and hands, they fill multiple roles at once without really sacrificing anything for it, so they were put down in the dumpster to prevent them from being too popular (at least for those unwilling to put the time and effort into the kit to play it at the same level as other champions.)

Among the list of worst designs... Including tryndamere, which you already mentioned, I'll go with these:

Blitzcrank . His kit has far from aged well, and although it still works and can still be a fun champion to play, it's all over the place. We have a passive that scales on current mana (making it either worthless or really, really powerful), a pull, a stat stick steroid, an AA reset, and AOE damage ult with a micro-silence. Combine the kit together and either the enemy has to run up to you, or you have to land your Q, rendering the entire kit dependent on a single ability. I would say that's really badly designed.

Gangplank . The good ol' money making barrel king. I find him bad design because essentially the optimal play is to drop barrels out of reach then throw out new ones and just go for nuking. His entire kit essentially feels like 2 abilities late game; his Q and E, and just a bunch of AD items to amp this up. His ult is for stragglers and maybe to start a fight, but you could live without it late game, and early game you toss it in for assists essentially, which lead to it getting nerfed repeatedly. His passive is often only good in the earliest of duels, because most enemies who get in that close would likely kill gangplank if he tried a head on fight, and enemies that don't kill you up close would likely die anyway without it if you could stick. All together, it feels like you're basically just relying on blowing up barrels in people's faces by magically making one appear next to them, instead of ambushes, patience, or confidence (the ability to face an enemy that can murder you if you slip up, but you just don't care because you know you wouldn't mess up). Instead, barrel wizard.

Lucian Hello, there, Lucian! Your E is the main candidate for this. Your kit is that of a spellslinger, where you want to mix in your pistol shots with your fancy gimmicks of gunplay, but in reality you pretty much only need your E late game. Any champion that can only jump on you once does not have much, if any, chance to kill you without it being a one shot gimmick, otherwise you have to essentially invalidate his entire existence by holding him in place for a few seconds with stuns, pulls, knockups, roots, etc, and that's not fun for either player to have to be in that position. The main problem is the only real weakness he has is "just cc him", otherwise it's just stat checking. Enemies with more range beat him because lucian never reaches them; enemies that outdamage lucian (draven, for example? I'm not even too sure on this) just brute force their way through, but everyone else has to deal with this man who slips through your fingers constantly, loading you with bullet after bullet. His kit still needs to be learned, but most of his "good" gameplay comes through knowledge of his E, which leads me to say that he isn't too great on the design aspect.

Basically, if a champion only relies on a single part or two of their kit, they're bad design to me. Tryndamere mostly relies on his ultimate and the rest of his kit is there, but not nearly as important, so he falls under that too. For champions like zoe, the W is situational use rather than "use whenever" and her E and R both set up her Q, meaning using all of her kit helps a lot more than it doesn't. Same with Akali and Zed; thorough knowledge of the kit means you know how to use everything, and ignoring parts of the kit isn't something you can just do.

King Lego12/20/2018, 5:43:51 PM5 votes

I was going to say Akali and Zoe (surprise surprise), but to be honest, any champion from certainlyt is at one point in the list of "badly designed champions". Most to all went through waves of changes to be half acceptable, and the only champion who was decent even after release was reworked WarWick (and that's because he wasn't working alone).

So if i have to choose another champion, I'll go with Irelia. She's just so overloaded. I've read a thread quoting Morello saying that when she was first designed, and things were kept being added until the designer was "satisfied" apparently for himself (or themselves) but in reality was an unfairly overloaded champion. That was the old Irelia of course. Now the new one is even more overloaded, which really confuses me because reworks often happen when a champion is either unpopular, too old or problematic. And Irelia was in the problematic part, and they proceed to make it worse?

At one point selecting Irelia herself resulted in auto-wins no matter how badly she does in the laning phase. I remember dropping ranks solely because of that cancerous abomination being played in mid lane.

Schenix12/20/2018, 2:12:39 PM5 votes

Kalista

Doesn't even get the privilege of a rework, Riot just comes out and says they won't waste much on her and apologizes to the community that mains her for keeping her in the dumpster on purpose. The kit is not ok on a ranged champion in any regard.

Tryndamere Akali Irelia Aatrox Yasuo applies to all of the champions (yes ik irelia has a resource but they are pathetic mana cost that will never have an affect past 3 min)

GreenKnight12/20/2018, 1:16:24 PM4 votes

I'll say that all reworks are the worst designed things in League.

Andevar12/21/2018, 9:03:17 PM3 votes

Akali True stealth. Irelia Oppresive early and late game. There’s a saying that a 0-5 Irelia can still 1v5... Aatrox Oh you only have 1 AD item? Let me one shot you and dive you under turret with my ult. Neeko Overloaded kit. Why does she get invisibility, root, very good poke, an ult that gives her Uber shields, a stun, and tons of damage?? Yasuo Overloaded kit. Zoe Let me steal all your summoner spells then unleash all of them at once. Also if you get hit by my sleep, you lose 3/4 of your HP.

Mordekaiser , doesnt have 40 dashes and a execute from 50% hp. literally unplayable

Jbels12/21/2018, 3:51:15 PM3 votes

Honestly? Mordekaiser. Not because his design was actually bad, but because of how out of place it is in this game now. 0 Mobility and 0 Hard/soft CC is not a design that works in League of legends. Riot holding on to it like it defines Morde is what is holding the champion back. He's oppressive in laning phase and then falls off to hell and back if he didn't get 2 or 3 kills before the time to roam arrives.

He is thematically weak. Nothing you do with him feels impactful. His Q does ass tons of damage compared to a Sion Q, but a Sion Q FEELS amazing to use. Nothing about this champion hits the mark. Not his tacked on ghost dragon, not his experience sharing mechanic that makes no sense to have anymore, and certainly not his inability to stick to anyone who has even the slightest mobility without having to drop the gold and item slot for a Rylai's crystal scepter.

Y'know... I saw this thread and immediately thought Trynd. He's not OP. He's not impossible to deal with. He's not broken. He's just really, REALLY poorly designed. He does ONE thing, and that's splitpush. No nuance. No skill to speak of. Not much to him beyond right clicking and stat checks. Just an old, outdated champ that needs to go away.

Trias00012/21/2018, 11:48:29 AM2 votes

Udyr by far. He's not a champion, he's a minion with 4 (actually 3) different banners of command. You buff him, then he attacks the enemy. And the fact that he's the only champion in the game that actually has only 3 abilities (because people usually don't level up R) speaks volumes.

wolvius12/20/2018, 6:00:43 PM1 votes

Akali isn't really a bad design, her kit is ok to play against Q is a "skillshot" that has a sweet-spot that is a slow not extra damage, her sustain pre-items is reliant on high energy so if you can force her to use her energy before then she has to wait longer for sustain etc, if her stealth was invisible not this obscure shite there would have been far less problems.

As much as i complain about Yasou he isn't the worst design ( he is given too many safety mechanics *cough windwall * cough) Fiora is probably the worst. Hax HP true damage which heals her, cooldown refunded on passive proc dash, fairly RNG vitals, W Cripples AA speed even if you dont damage her while she's using it and She cant win games off a lead. Oh Hades i'm starting to sound like Hashinshin.
