To get my ping before I start a game, I always open command prompt, and type

tracert 104.160.131.1

I learned that from Wuks.

The bottom pings. I look at the bottom left one normally.

It's called custom games....

But still going into a custom game, and sometimes getting the gathering data thing that takes forever to go away, and then waiting on the loading screen for the game to start and exit does take a little bit of time

This. Virtually every modern PC game today has this sort of info public to the player.

it would be nice to see your ping in champ select.

I don't think champ select servers and "in-game" servers are the same, this means that you can have a perfect ping in champ select and a bad ping when in game... So, if I'm correct, what do we want is the "in-game" server ping when in champ select, just in case of very bad connectivity just with this server, so we can dodge or do something ?!

Isn't it possible to make a situation that makes the "ping" to be tested in a game server scenario

Very probable they can show us ping in champ select with minor changes.

If I notice I'm getting bad delay when I choose a champion, when I send out messages, and when I choose my Summoner Spells, I'll know something is wrong with my ping and I'll dodge.

This used to be a thing in the loading screen, about two years ago I think. It was useful, I guess.

BloodyTompon1 votes

It still is, but only for your own ping. It used to be for everybody's ping, but people would get shitty and disheartened if they saw somebody with really high ping on their team.

I brought this up a while ago, got more or less shot down. But yeah, that would be cool because right now to test my ping I have to load an empty bot game to figure out where I stand.

BloodyTompon1 votes

They won't do it on the current client. They probably will on the new client though

They used to have it so that you could see everyones ping in the champion loading screen, but they removed it because they deemed seeing a person with high ping would be an advantage to low ping players because they know that the high ping player can't really do things that quick

@Derpyon You can ping Riot's league servers for North America through your command prompt or terminal in mac and find your ms that way before you enter a game

On Windows: Open Command Prompt and type "ping 104.160.131.1" without quotations and then press enter. CMD will ping 4 times and give you an average ms

On Mac: Open Terminal and type "ping 104.160.131.1" without quotations

This pings the Riot server in Chicago.
