Storm Raiders give less movement speed late game.....

I decided to try this keystone out and realized that as you buy movement speed items, the 40% movespeed you gain from storm raider diminishes because of the movement speed cap in the game. This actually makes the keystone weaker as late game approaches.

If you have more than 415 movespeed then you get capped at 80% of anything over 415. The raw speed over 490 gets multiplied by 50%.

So, if your support buffs you with a movespeed spell, the movespeed from stormraider becomes useless.

The only thing you really gain is the slow resist which can be hard to use if you're not an assassin. Even if you are an assassin, you won't last long enough to make use of the slow resist.

All in all, storm raiders seems kinda underwhelming...

I dunno. I find the slow resist generally really helpful. And the slow resist gets more useful as the game goes on, because there are more champions grouped up to slow you, the slows are on lower cooldowns, and the slows themselves are stronger. The slow resist totally destroys lots of champions' kiting ability (Ashe, Vel'Koz, Rylai's DoT mages, Gnar with Frozen Mallet).

I mean, it's not useful in all situations, certainly. It's not going to help you catch that Zilean or Lulu (because they're going to outrun you even if they don't slow you). But in the situations where it is useful, it usually ends up seeming way stronger than most other individual masteries.

Wait, league has a movement speed cap now?

Shit! That does make stormraiders pretty weak late.

One of the reasons I was not a fan of it on Morde for the longest time.

I can see why.

They could make it so that it is the only mastery that breaks the MS cap.

I think it should just ignore soft cap

but then we might see assassin Hecarim

But that's not actually bad. In fact, his passive is otherwise really lackluster. I think his passive itself should allow him to ignore the movement speed cap, so people are encouraged to play him like a fast warhorse instead of a freaking war elephant.

only if it becomes a % AD bonus so he can't build full tank with triforce

Do note that tanks don't have many any movement speed items aside for deadman's plate, which will only help him on the first auto. I think we'll be fine. (He'll have to build stuff like phantom dancer to stack movespeed, soooo I doubt he'll become too strong). Though we can always change it to your idea if he does become too stronk.

Flash Ryze incoming then.

Not really a cap, just a "soft cap". http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Movement_speed

Its always had that. Imagine hec without a soft cap

For a while his E ignored the soft cap.

Stormraider's is still good on champions that aren't going to be building movement speed items. The utility it offers is insane if you can kite properly. Personally I think it's just a preference thing.

storm raiders has its uses and is not underwhelming

it can literally make or break certain matchups that rely on slows. Just think Riven vs Tryndamere or Jayce vs Nasus, where the slow resistance and speed buff is crucial for allowing Riven and Jayce to take trades at all.

Thats also why ghost and ms items are actually more effective on champs that have gapcloser rather than ms-boosts for mobillity. Udyr gets over the first cap and close to the scond with his E already, while Zed still has quite some room befor reaching the softcap while also haveing his shadow-swaps.

Though honestly, stormraiders has bigger issues than the softcap. A short speedboost is something that you want to controll, as it's strong in the right moment and usless in the wrong moment. With it's current trigger system, you just have to little controll over it. It also lacks a distinct enough sound and visuals, you often simply don't notice it procs if you don't specifically pay atention to it. And even if all come together, unless you happen to be slowed and thus make use of the strong slow resist, it still isn't the most powerfull effect with 40%ms for 3sec.

Movement speed caps are obsolete, now that slows don't stack, and needlessly reduce clarity by essentially making every boost or slow modify movement speed by an amount lesser than what is indicated. Removing those caps and deflating the most extreme slows and boosts would make those effects much clearer, and help Stormraider's feel a bit more consistent.

i didn't know that but i take it on ryze and you're right, i don't even notice it late game tbh

I've never seen anyone build MS while having Stormraider's anyway.

AcidTheWarlock1 votes

I like it on Tank Kha just since E-Q-AA chunks people pretty hard and stops you from getting kited, since I don't build MS besides DMP and boots.

Stormraiders is weak all-round.

It's really unfortunate, considering it's one of the most interesting keystones.

Kingnewgameplus1 votes

Maybe make it a flat number, like 100 or something, so if its too weak you can make that number bigger or if its too strong you can make the number smaller.

Should a mastery be the same power at all stages in the game? At first, the % movement speed isn't a lot, but it doesn't hit the cap. As the game goes on the % is greater but the returns are lower due to the cap. It seems to me like it almost evens out

Requiemsfire1 votes

I don't quite see how it's underwhelming, it's a personal movement speed boost that occurs whenever you shred a portion of an opponent's health in 2 seconds, juggernauts, fighters and assassins can all make use of it especially since you don't require an ally to proc it.

Dengeden1 votes

The slow resist remains useful though. Arguably gets better because of the countless slows in teamfights.

SilverDrake1 votes

Yeah I never understood this cap. Most champs don't even get close. I say let everyone go as fast as the please.

Stormraiders kinda sucks on most assassins.

Ironically, it's proving to be the quintessential juggernaut keystone out there for many juggy mains (I personally despise it).

FakeGravity1 votes

over all strom raiders is just not living to the expectation, is just not optimal in most cases when you could just take some extra damage, lets replace it entirely with something that favor more champions so they actually have a choice than thunderlords

Irelia Bot1 votes

While the movement speed is nice the 75% slow reduction is the real reason it is not worthless late game.

It is not perfect sure but wish all the keystones were good utility instead of being about damage or tankyness.
