Require Mastery 3 or higher for Ranked play

Just to make sure someone at least knows the champion's abilities.

EDIT: It seems people are overestimating the amount of play required to get to M3. it's not much. And anyone who wants to play a champ in Ranked should have at least that much experience with the champion.

It doesn't reduce your effective pool. Your pool is not increased by a champion you own but can't play.

And maybe M2 instead. Smite requires M1 (out of 10) to play a champion in their ranked, which I think is still way too lenient but they have half as many characters as LoL. But the introduction of a Mastery system finally gives LoL a way to make sure someone has at least played a match with the champion they're choosing.

First this acts like a huge wall for content. Which is something Riot is 100% against.

I appreciate your overall objective. I assume you are suggesting this because you feel that the people you play with are very bad and thus adding this gate somehow would make them better.

Unfortunate truth number 1. Implementing something like this suddenly will not make the people you play with somehow less skilled on their champions. It simply won't. No one learns a champion in what 5 games? The difference is so insignificant. You get familiar with the abilities. Not the matchups. It won't improve quality.

Second,

This system could never be implemented because of what it would do to champion pools. So lets assume that every champion you dont have 3 or higher on is locked. So now between the 5 of you how many champions do you have unlocked? Is the ban pool adjusted to reflect available champions like it does today? It so you could easily look at it and ban out a role.

People are not going to get lvl 3 on 90% of their champions let alone 10. People will easily find themselves not able to fill a role with an appropriate champion.

I appreciate your frustrations. This just won't end up solving anything and will likely make things worse.

They do this over in SMITE: Battleground of the Gods (rank 1 is all that's needed there though) and it actually works out pretty nicely. Gating people off from doing that whole "I just got this guy, never played him before, imma play him in ranked now!" It's not really to show they have the "skill" with the champ or anything, it's just to show they've at least played them.

Comparing league to smite is like comparing a walnut to an orange and say they are the same thing. The idea that because something works with one thing that it should easily work with another is a huge leap. Are they both MOBAs? Yes. Are they both "technically free?" Tes. The similarities end there.

LOL. The similarities are far greater then that in MOST MOBAs.

That's certainly your own opinion. If you think features that work in Smite will magically work in Riot you are welcome to it.

My is It won't work and Riot will never do it. You are welcome to come bump this post years from now for your victory should Riot suddenly change their mind.

Their current position. Keep as few gates in the game as possible.

Then I'm really glad your trolling is done on the EUW server.

I've never played Maokai out of ranked. First Mao game was a ranked game, and so was every Mao game after that. I believe I had a 100% win rate with him last year. Not everyone struggles on new champs. After all, most champs are basically the same champs altered slightly anyways. The day that I never do badly as someone I've played a lot is the day that I'll believe that experience with a champ determines if you should play them in ranked. As for M3 to play them. No. There are so many flaws with your logic that not only am I flabbergasted that you haven't figured at least a few of them out, I'm also not going to waste my time listing them off. I'm sure that's coming. Maybe instead of worrying so hard about other players being good enough, perhaps you should ask if you are good enough with who you pick first. Maybe you are, maybe you aren't. I don't know. I do know most of these complaints come from people who aren't who believe they are.

That goes without saying for most tanks, but anyone with varied mechanics will take a few games of practice. If it is as you say, then you would've had no problem picking him in a few normal games beforehand.

Your example can also serve as good evidence as to why this wouldn't negatively effect players who would pick easy-to-learn champions. Wouldn't take you long to earn a few mastery with him.

I don't exactly appreciate the harassment, but you seem to have misunderstood something about players who make this complaint. I know I need practice with some champs before I bring them to Ranked. I don't want to be allowed to pick, accidentally or intentionally, a champion I'm unfamiliar with either.

I post something that contradicts what you say so it's harrassment? Nah, dude. Let me tell you the impression that I get of you. You're one of those players who whines and blames your teammates when you lose games. You want Riot to do everything that you think would make it easier for you to advance. People advance all the time so the system isn't really messed up. Your ability to advance is what's messed up. If you are losing games then you also do not know your champ well enough either. Wrap your mind around that common sense logic. I fully understood your complaint, your complaint is just ignorant and not well thought out. Those downvotes you have only stand to validate this." I don't want to be allowed to pick, accidentally or intentionally, a champion I'm unfamiliar with either." <--- That is a load of crap. You know damn good and well that you won't be picking anyone you don't want to pick. You're just trying to save face by making it look like this is for you. In reality, you want everyone on your team to pick their champions according to YOUR criteria. Not only is that wrong, it is also selfish and ignorant.

^ Since you decided to think I was attacking you, I decided to give you the blunt version of the truth. Don't like it? Think you're idea is so fantastic? Well, we'll see how fantastic it is when it is never implemented. The community has already spoken it's thought about this with those downvotes. Of course, I'm sure that you alone know better than everyone else and no one on the internet has anything close to your superior ability to use logic.

Oh it had nothing to do with your "claim." You flat out harassed me.

thewire6661 votes

I am not trolling :) In fact the first jhin ranked was 17/3

That kinda hurts with the champion limit you need or else you can't play ranked as well. At least one level. One level is like 2 wins in normals.

cuddlykitten41 votes

M1 takes literally just a game played.

I have over 200,000 mastery points and with your idea, I wouldn't be able to play ranked, because 197,000 of those points are on two champions.
