Suggestion: Revamp The Relic Line to have a BoC option

I'm going to keep this brief so I can get those downvotes quicker.

I have a few major issues with the Relic Line of gold income items. In no particular order:

  • If no one is near me, my warding ability suffers
  • By this same measure, my revenue income suffers
  • It's the only GI item I'm aware of that necessitates you upgrading as fast as possible, which has obvious ramifications

There hasn't been, heretofore, a way to really change that. And moreover I think this reduces tank options in the support role. That's a problem for the game in general, as I see it, because I'm often in a lobby (when I jungle) where no one is playing a tank. I sign up for Top/Support and generally play tanks, but we live in a world of autofill and KDA junkies farming kills in order to shit on other players. Such is life.

On the other side of the world, I miss the hell out of Banner of Command - even the shitty one no one took. And I feel like this is a possible resolution to both problems. To this end, I think that a fully built item 3401 (meaning you've hit the 500g mark) should allow for you to either Promote a minion, or should allow you to buy a banner of command* which requires a fully unlocked Remanent of the Aspect to purchase.

I'm proposing this for a few reasons

  1. it's important to not create game breaking items. That should go without saying but I've also read some of the would-be lawyers here on the forums, so now I have to explain everything to the pedantic.
  2. The unlocking requirement is because having a BoC at level 1 would be horribly broken.
  3. This system would put any potential exploitation behind a financial and time gate that should hinder the old 5-person BoC push
  4. It's a way to shore up, on the back end, some of the tank gold revenue problems.
  5. The tank supports, which are already out of favor in general, don't really have a way to farm. By allowing a BoC promotion option it could go some way in dealing with their wave clear problems, but again, not until late game when someone DC's or you're defending the base.

Im attempting to solve a problem by enlarging it. Banner of Command had problems, but it was one of the few items that let us manipulate the field. By making it accessible to champs who have the least ability to abuse it, and the most need of it, we could find a way to bring it back in without running into the same old problems.

Thanks for reading, and I appreciate your time.

*This would be the original, MR reducing effect - the goal here being to create a revenue stream but not anything game breaking.

I thought I'd include some math here so it was a little more comprehensive.

The lol wiki put up some numbers that I'll assume are close to accurate. You can find the breakdown here: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Gold_income

The gist is that the best performing item is ancient coin with a per minute range of 9.5 to 13.67. The worst is relic shield with a a per minute range of 5.67 to 9.5.

This is looking at the starter items. You can see the numbers for the maxed out items in the link above. Here you can see that maximum effort on Relic is the least effort on coin. Already a disparity. For the sake of keeping things simple, let's take a look at what that gap looks like over the course of the game:

Assume that the average game is 35 mins. That means that the coin, on average, without upgrades generates:

  • Coin: 405.475 per game (11.585 x 35)
  • Relic: 265.475 per game (7.585 x 35)

Ok so we're talking about 140g drop. I'm currently hunting for data on how much gold BoC generated on average but it seems to be buried along with my sense of adventure and fun. I will report back once I have it, but you should consider that all previous pieces of data would be disrupted by any delays in achieving promote because of it behind held up behind quests.
