Riot is all about listening to player requests, but still won't disable new champs in ranked

Can I get a Red's comment on this? Seriously. I'm watching streams today and every time I see a Kayn they feed their ass off and make their team lose. (This is high elo as well.)

When you release a new champ/rework, why don’t you disable the champ in ranked for one week? Why don’t you need a certain number of normal games before you play a champ in ranked?

Releasing a new champion or a major champion update is a big deal for us and for players, especially at the slower release cadence we use these days. After the teasing and the hype and the spotlights, we want players to be able to try the champion out right away. For players whose primary way to engage in League is through ranked (and that’s a lot of players) a week can feel like a long time, especially since the champion will have been on the PBE before that.

However, we sympathize with the basic problem you’re hinting at, of someone going into ranked with a champion they have never played before, and having your team possibly pay the price. While we think the new Practice Mode will help some with this problem, we also have discussed requiring you to play with the champion – even if it’s as little as one game – before you take him or her into ranked. No concrete plans at the moment, but it’s something we’ll keep on our radar.

To address Riot's first point (some people primarily play Ranked), how is that different from players who's primary way to engage with League is through ARAM? Players have to leave the game mode they prefer to learn a champion, why is that so bad? Let them practice in the modes made for practicing for a week.

To begin if u have hands, u don't need one whole week to learn Kayn. Then is able in ranked to know if the pick is strong enough at decent elo (so exit silver & bronze) & serious game (so exit aram, normal game & pbe).

Half of ARAM's fun is the random champion selection though

Half of Rank's fun is the competitive nature of it, something undermined by allowing new champions fresh off the PBE on it.

just make the rotating game mode "one for all" during each release week... how hard is that... everyone gets to learn him...

i'm not even going to evaluate that as a solution to the given problem, i'm just going to say we need ofa implemented in new client asap

Because an actually fairly large portion of LoL players only play Ranked. They don't do regular Draft, Blind, or ARAM. Banning a champion from Ranked actually prevents a very sizable portion of the playerbase from playing them- especially in the area Riot needs data from the most- people trying their hardest to win.

I hadn't thought about it before, but basically everyone in my college gaming club just played Ranked too- I was the only one who frequently played Blind or ARAM. And Draft has more or less the same problem, they don't want people playing first-time in Draft either, they just bitch slightly less because it's not Ranked. I bet you if I hop in Draft right now, he's still going to be banned.

Just had one try and play mid lane.

Like, how selfish can you people be? It was even going to make us an all-AD comp.

so... u think u aren't selfish and even childish ?

I think you don't understand the difference between "listening" and "doing whatever the players tell us to do".

They have clearly heard you and the rest of the community regarding the subject but they have decided to not do what you want.

Riot hears your request and your request is denied.

Oh really? if riot listed to the community we would have urf, OFA would have been finished before doombots (seriously, did anyone want DOOMBOTS over OFA?) ANd fiora, twitch, and thresh (who are all unbalanced in some way or another) would be nerfed by now.

ive gone 3/0 in ranked as him, its like yasuo, if your cant learn to play him your gunna feed your ass off.

Sun Wu Ryuumoku2 votes

no... its not like Yasuo. But yeah, a bad kayn is a bad kayn.

i mean skill wise not kit or playstyle just skill aspect

I think a good assassins jungler main can first time Kayn and do a good job. But i think "nobody" can with yasuo.

To be fair, you likely play with teammates/enemies that are playing a champ for the first time or two fairly regularly and you don't know it or complain about it, because the champion isn't new. Sure it's a new champ and no one knows much about it, whereas with an older champ you'd atleast have seen it more, but it's really not that different. Play your main, don't complain.
