Personally, I think all lanes should have some tank options (mid and ADC have the least. Mid has
and arguably
and
. ADC has...
).
I like to play tanks. You could call me a tank main (but I'm also an unranked scrub, so my opinion won't be taken seriously). And nothing annoys me more than being put in positions where I can't build my preferred playstyle.
But everyone likes mid! How can you be annoyed to play it?
In mid I play champions like
or
(Blitz is for when I'm REALLY FEELING IT) and I honestly don't like the position that much since the lane seems hellbent on snowballng. I don't want to snowball, I don't want the entire game centered around how quickly I can kill my enemy (because despite this being a tower defense, it's played like team deathmatch). I have to rely on other people to keep people steady and despite being a tank main, I have problems trusting people to do the job. That's probably why I play tanks, so at least someone on the team can focus on locking people down as everyone goes crazy for kills (Even the supports. Like poke supports).
A tank ADC would be toxic
Nobody probably thinks this, but I wanted to shed light on this concept. Yes, a tank ADC would be bad. ADC are suppose to build nothing but damage and push towers. Tanks are suppose to be very survivable in combat. Fusing these together gives us juggernauts, who are weak by their range. A ranged juggernaut would be a horrible thing.
But then we have the abomination in the room:
(referring to his character, though his kit has problems).
will probably need a rework (I'm betting after Yorick) to fix his problems, but how can we approach this guy? If they made a Marksman/Tank...well I don't know how they'll do that but I guess we'll see it.
Now for the lanes you've mentioned I'll give my personal opinion.
Top: This has always been weird for me. Toplane is suppose to be that solo lane where you basically split push (I'm probably wrong, but there was that whole "Top lane is an island" thing). Tanks such as
and
(He was a top laner originally I think) are team focused champions. So why should they go into a lane that is mainly solo and not as important as Mid?
Jungle: This is where I prefer to play tanks. Tanks are not early game, they are mid to late game champions. The jungle allows for tanks to provide utility to their teams without too much danger of dying a lot early (Which is my grip with support tanks. I'll get to this). Problem with the jungle is that it doesn't provide much gold and tank items can get pretty expensive.
Support: I don't like to support sometimes. I like playing
and
support (and
but I suck at her) but I'm prone to dying a lot (sometimes to protect my carry, sometimes because
support decided to focus me) and thus I can't get many items to be tanky. There's also the problem that I have to give my carry kills (because they need them and are whiney when they don't get them sometimes) and sometimes I just don't want to risk the enemy living. So I'm gold starved, tend to die a lot, and can't do much unless my Carry is ready or the enemy dives. I also can't play my favorite tanks in support (no one trusts
support) which is annoying.
As for which of these lanes should hold the tank? Any lane can have a tank, just as long as you have a tank on your team. I'm probably biased, but teams with tanks seem to win more than teams without tanks. You need people dedicated to holding others down for you to kill them. Problem is that tanks don't really get rewarded. Assists are the "support" scoreboard, so many top lane or jungle tanks may feel under appreciated in their endeavors. Thus tanks get played less and replaced by TANKY bruisers, who can fulfill the role decently enough while provided enough damage to carry.
I like tanks. I believe that no lane should be deemed the "tank" lane and I think this for all roles (but the meta has already shoved supports in bot sadly). If your team doesn't have a tank and you think it's needed, play a tank (Course if you are mid or ADC, you are kinda fucked for options).
