Yasuo and Braum

So I was thinking: They took away GP's ability to kill ally minions because it prevents farm. But against a ranged champion, can't Yas and Braum do the same thing? I know it's saved for confrontations, but stopping them from last-hitting a few minions is also a feature.

Same thing? Yes and no. With Gangplank's old Raise Morale, you destroyed an allied minion or pet. That could be done before a minion ever reached the front lines, completely denying it from contributing exp to the enemy. At least with currently available denial techniques, minions still are available to grant experience to players even if they fail to score the last hit gold.

Technically, Yasuo and Braum aren't the only last hit deniers left in the game.

  • Soraka can still heal minions, making it easy for early game AAs to fail a kill
  • Almost any CC can cause a missed last hit
  • Zoning the enemy can cause a missed last hit
  • Death can cause a missed last hit
  • Turrets! Players don't knock turrets down ASAP because they help deny farm

It's not the farm denial in itself that really was at issue with Gangplank's old Raise Morale mechanic. It was experience availability denial and trolling potential (teammates with pets could easily be targeted by a troll Gangplank who could kill their pets before they did their job).

Yeah I literally always WW the cannon minion as Yauso.

It really pisses people off.

Exactly, so why is that okay? They took it off gangplank. All I'm saying is it shouldn't block basics. Save it for ults.

Not getting the last hit is different than denial. Denying a minion (as GP could do) entirely took away the XP and any gold you'd get from it. The issue wasn't gold, the issue was XP because GP would get a level advantage, would hit 6 first, etc.

Also even if you don't get the last hit, in addition to the XP, supports would also get the gold via either items (medallion) or support masteries that grant gold on a creep kill that you didn't kill.

Then with your logic, GP was fine as long as they just gave the XP to enemies in range as well. It is denial, seeing as the support can't magically give their ADC the gold too, and for one thing Yasuo doesn't go up against bot lane.
