Ekko's ult (not insta-cast) vs Annies ult (instacast + aoe stun and dmg nuke)

Woook3r··2 votes·1,374 views

OK guys.

So we all know that if annie has flash and ult, you will get ulted to your face if she wants to ult you. You cannot dodge it. It has great range and comes with a stun. If she ults you, you will most likely die in less than 1.5 seconds. It is possible that she will stun your entire team. And most importantly, you cannot dodge this. You cant flash it. You cant walk out of it. AND IT IS A POINT AND CLICK ABILITY. Anyone playing the game can use this ability. No one playing the game can dodge it. It is an on demand aoe stun/nuke.

Now lets look at ekko's ult. You cant aim it. There is no point and click mechanic. It only comes with a stun if your opponents are daft or you are a god. It heals you for a large amount late game, but thats the only part of the ult that is guaranteed. Its so hard to land. It really does require you to think 4 seconds ahead to find a small window of opportunity as opposed to annies ult which you can use reactivly, instantly, and at will to game changing effect. Plus one more thing which I would argue makes his ult a joke. It isnt an instant cast ability. It has a delay. And you can walk out of it with tier one boots..

Yes thats right. It doesnt matter if you are standing directly on top of ekko's ult. If you have good base MS and tier one boots, Ekko needs you to be daft enough to walk directly on top of the clearly telegraphed deathzone and in the SAME DIRECTION. So please, do him a favor and help him outplay you.

TL;DR Honestly, ekko's ult should be insta-cast. If he is good enough to maneuver his target onto the clearly visible clone, then he should NOT have to worry about them walking away from it in the space of time it takes to cast. They should be dead. If you allow counter play at the moment when his target has been maneuvered into position correctly then you take all of ekko's agency. If someone has been outplayed to the point where they are now standing on top of ekko's ult then they dont deserve any chance to get away safely.

You are right, these two skills are super to be compared to each other, since they essentially do the same thing. And on top of that, these champions also fill the same roll and all other abilities are exactly the same. You sir, found the perfect way to compare two skills to each other, my deepest respect

Annie is an ap burst assassin. Sure, you might get technical on me, but assassins combo another champion to death in a single rotation. That is annie's core gameplay. Ill rephrase my argument next time. Essentially, ekko has more counterplay than any other assassin. How are you going to argue that?

Ralanr3 votes

Because Ekko is a secondary assassin while Annie is primarily a Mage and secondary support.

By your definition, Garen is an assassin because he has a combo.

Assassins also have tools built into their kit that allow them to get in or get out of situations (even Talon has his ult). Annie does not. She has ways to burst, but no ways to escape.

U are right. Garen cant be an assassin because he doesnt have the mobility. Amumu counts tho. So does J4. Good point.

I thought Ekko had Mage in him?

Odd.

Odd.

I think a lot of mages have better cc and more reliable ranged burst. A huge part of his burst is going to be in melee range. I seems that being melee is a strong indicator that a bursty champ is going to be an assassin. Some of that is power curves as well. Victor has some of the best end game burst in the game, but he is ranged and he doesnt get that burst until later typically.

Annie's ult is a skill shot, not a point and click ability. I should also note that you can dodge Annie's ult. You just have to be ready when she flashes in to flash out. It's not easy mind you.

A point and click skill is a skill you click on and then select a target champion to use it on. Veigar's R is a point and click ultimate. You hit R, then you click on your enemy and it hits them.

Anything you have to aim or place is a skill shot.

You're not dodging Annie's ult. To dodge Annie's ult would imply that you see the skill come to you and you avoid it. What you're doing is flashing away when you are under the impression that she might ult your face, because you can't see the damn ability actually coming. Even that requires stellar ping to avoid getting stunned at your new destination.

Theres no window of opportunity with her ult. Its just whenever she chooses to flash on you. Ekko has to outplay. Im not sure why there should be room to dodge his ult after he has gotten you where he wants to. That was basically my entire point. How do you feel on that?

Because it gives him a blink and a heal as well. Damage is just a bonus.

Me? I fucking loathe Annie's design. I'd scrap her entire concept so hard that Sion and Poppy's relaunch would look incredibly close to their original designs compared to Annie.

I guess I shouldn't say that ekko should be buffed bc annie is broken. True. I still don't feel like making ekkos ult insta cast is the wrong way to go with him. Its not like people are skillfully walking out. they are just getting lucky.

The OP put forward the scenario of Annie flashing to you and then ulting. So, you do see the skill coming because it's preceded by her flash. It does require a low ping to flash out in time, and as I stated, it's not easy. It's easiest in lane with her because you should have an idea of when she's going to try to pull her jazz and should be ready.

You cast the ult outside of its range and then when you flash into range it gets insta cast. Do you know how flash cancelling animations works? Look it up. Ahri's charm and thresh's hook have similar mechanics. Annies is already instant so it doesn't really get cancelled.

MohawkBird1 votes

Wait. . . by you saying Annie's ult is a skill shot and not point and click it seems to me that you're implying Ekko's ult is easier to land. Sure, it is technically point and click, but it is 10x harder to land a good Ekko ult than a good Annie ult. It's not instant either.

Rofl. At first I thought this was a shit on Annie thread which made me laugh, but then this turned into a buff Ekko thread?

Go back to Diaper 5 were you belong. Ekko is more than fine as he is right now.

I wasnt talking about the whole champ. I was talking about the ammount of counterplay in his ult which is basically more counterplay in one ability than annie has in her entire kit..

Ratbert1 votes

kite annie with a finger always on flash or poke her. Don't play a champ that has to go toe-to-toe. If you are melee, watch her stacks and play safe.

Surprise, you beat her. That's all the counterplay you need to crush annie. If it isn't, then how can you counterplay a champ with 2 dashes and a blink?

Ekko has multiple ways of creating huge no-go zones to diminish his counterplay.

She can still stun you with q u know? U really cant flash that. And I wouldn't say surprising her is beating her given that she has her finger equally close to flash and zhonyas as you do to your flash zhonyas. Flashing annies instacast ult is not really something anyone takes seriously. And I'm saying that if hers is that easy to land, and comes in front of a stun and huge dmg, then why isn't ekko's insta-cast? It wouldn't make him easier to use. It would just make him more like other assassins.

Ratbert3 votes

So, her stun is her problem? In that case, watch her stacks and don't go so near to her without a teammate.

You can't flash his dash, and you can't really outrun his slows.

Flashing a skillshot isn't taken seriously? How? Instant cast or not, you can see annie walking up to you. She doesn't tend to do that unless she's engaging.

Her stun is part of her passive, not her ult. It's a damage nuke and a pet summon. No more, no less. Ekko's is a damage nuke, blink and self heal. It isn't instant cast solely because of the blink.

Ok. SO I should flash when she walks up to me right? Ok. I flashed. She didn't tho because she just wanted me to waste my flash. Now I am down a summoner. What next bobby fischer troll?

Abusing range is no longer counterplay? Lux now confirmed trash tier. It's like saying, "so I should zone myself from ekko? How unfair!"...

You panic flashed? You deserve to lose. Next time try having slightly more self control and flashing when she does. Her walking to you is correlated to her engaging, but not a definite cause.

ok. post some videos of you escaping a flash tibbers.

Well, you can argue it's not an escape, but it's fairly easy to flash out but get stunned, while avoiding annie's follow up.

And since it's not targeted, you can flash it. I don't need a video to prove this because you can flash any skillshot. Even if I couldn't do this, you can.

The only thing ekko and annie ult share in common is a aoe nuke

Ekkos ult heals him repositions dodges skillshots and deals significantly more damage than annie ult

Annie is made to be a lowskillcap champ its the entire point of her design

Ekko is made to be a highskillcap hit and run assassin

Ekkos ult is easy to land you just do not know how to use it.

People have to dodge both w and r they can't dodge both and will get hit by one or the other you don't even need his r to 100-0 carrys either

he is perfectly capable of killing a entire team without using his ult.

also to walk out of ekkos ult you have to be at the very edge of it or have extremely high movespeed.

the delay before it hits is 1 second.

Actually Annie's ult isn't that much weaker than Ekko's if you count the 2 seconds of damage/second for Tibbers that you were stunned for.

Ekko: 500 + (130% AP) Annie: 505 + (120% AP) + an additional 40 + (20% AP) damage if you were still close or hit by Tibbers.

Not saying anything else you said is wrong, but just pointing out that her ult isn't that much weaker.

Dark Nephthys1 votes

Ekko technically has to use other abilities for his stun since it's very hard to land if you just straight out use it, the only way to really pull off your stun is to use it on an area behind the enemy and then E on to them and the stun area, which is still much harder to pull off against smarter enemies, unlike Annie which just needs to use 4 skills and she has an almost 2 second stun ready. Also...Again, Ekko doesn't do "significantly" more damage than Annie, it's actually fairly close

Ekko Full Rotation: 1140 + (300%) Passive: 190 + (80%) {3 Sec CD} Q: 280 + (70%) {7 Sec CD} E: 170 + (20%) {7 sec CD} Ult: 500 + (130%) {70 sec CD}

Q has gives you a second or 2 to get out of the way (hint: Don't run back, just move to the side) Ultimate is actually hard to hit unless the enemy wasn't paying attention, which makes his damage some what situational. His stun is also hard to land again unless the enemy is just not paying attention.

Annie Full Rotation: 1035 + (305%) + Additional 60 + (20% per auto), and 40 + (20%) next to Tibbers. Q: 220 + (80%) {4 Second CD with full mana, and Half CD reset} W: 250 + (85%) {8 Sec CD} E: 60 + (20% per hit) {last 5 seconds, with 10 sec CD} Ult: 505 + (120% AP) + Additional 40 + (20%) per second next to Tibbers past the 2 second stun. {Ult last for 45 secs, with 80 sec CD}

Annie's Q is a target spell with extremely low CD and can be easily used in lane to last hit until she gets her stun. Her E is basically a thornmail that she can put on herself or tibbers if she used her ult while her shield is on, plus it's an easy way to freely stack her passive for her stun. Her ult is an instant nuke that practically kills most of if not all of a squishy's hp, which is instant...and while it's range not the best, that's why Flash Tibbers is usually the thing that happens.

At least with Ekko...You could dodge his Q's second strike, or hell even the first strike to...You can avoid his stun by not going into the circle, and you could avoid his ultimate by just playing smart and paying attention, if you have mobility you can also avoid his Passive's 3 proc....outside of those abilities, the only real damage he has would be his E which isn't much avoidable but it's damage is extremely weak and Annie's Q is way stronger than it, unavoidable and half the cooldown.

Yeah no his Q is undodgble if he is doing more than just trying to poke with it

Ekkos full rotation is on a 3 second cooldown(not counting ult) and is more then enough to 1 shot majority of carrys

annies full rotation is on a 3 minute coolooldown

around 2 minutes with the boot enchant and mastery.

also his w deals up to 20% missing health damage at full build plus the ratios from lich bane and nashors which you always get.

Ekko's rotation is on a longer than 3 second cooldown, unless your implying that his rotation is only his passive, and Annie's rotation isn't 3 minutes...that's only her Initiation that's on a 3 min cooldown, she can still go and instant burst everyone without flash, it's just not as effective as an initiation.

Though I did forget about Ekko's passive on his W, forgot that he does extra damage based off of missing health. I still stand by that Ekko's kit is a little bit more "avoidable" than Annie who can just Ult, E, Q and you die before the stun even wears off.

That's implying that every Ekko is going with 40% CDR. If Annie went down the CDR path her skills would be..

Q: 2.4 seconds W: 4.8 seconds E: 6 Seconds (Which again last for 5 seconds) ult: 48 seconds (which last for 45 seconds)

You are trying to make Ekko look like his rotation is on such a lower cooldown by giving him max cdr and not considering that Annie is at a much lower cooldown with max cdr, hell with max cdr Annie's E can almost be on for the whole game since it's 1 second, and her ult has only 3 seconds for when her Tibbers is not on the field if you wanted to.
