In the top 65 champions, there are 4 "tanks"

However, even this figure is bloated 4 times what the actual number is. To explain:

Sion Sion is the only top lane tank out of those four. And with his passive it's completely obvious he'd leap up in winrate due to the buffed Grasp and new Demolition+Overgrowth. He is actually building top lane as a tank, not a juggernaut/bruiser, so it's safe to say he's the only tank in the top 65.

Rammus Is a jungler, so the state of top lane tank items doesn't effect him much. The bigger point, though, is that these new runes supplied a massive buff to ADCs--- the Rammus's natural prey. His performance is and has always been directly proportional to the strength of ADCs.

Leona Even more so than Rammus, is not effected by top lane tank items since Support items were updated. Her core build is entirely made up of new support items. And since she is the support with the highest amount of cc for her ease, her winrate spikes up when her lane partner is stronger-- in an ADC meta.

Taric See above. Then add in the fact his kit synergizes even further with the +healing support items, making him less likely to build tank items after his core thanLeona.

Please discuss.

I'd sure like to know where the hell you're getting this supposed list of the top 65 champions. Why 65 anyway? The only reason I could think to pick 65 is because its close to half the roster, but that makes no sense. Why not just use half the roster? Is there something else I'm missing?

Being able to see the list would also let me know just how much bullshit you're giving me in terms of what you define as a tank and how many tanks are juuuust outside of that random 65 champion range.

op.gg my friend.

I said 65 because Mundo is slap dab at 66, but 65 sounds like a nicer number. So yes, there is one tank just outside the 65 range.

You can look for yourself, these numbers are true. And if you wanna argue that being in the top half is okay, but not being in the top 65 is also okay, not sure what grounds you have to make that claim.

not just the website, give me the exact fucking chart you're looking at because if you just went on op.gg and looked at all champs sorted by winrate:

Maokai #14 - boi Amumu #15 - u Shen #33 - got Malphite #36 - some Alistar #45 - explainin Sejuani #47 - 2 Cho'Gath #64 - do

That's not even counting the multitude of very strong champions who "aren't tanks" but build full tank.

Tanks are in no way weak right now - in fact, tanks (and certain juggernauts with effectively full tank builds [cough cough NASUS cough]) are dominant because of the fact that they're the only ones who don't die in half a second, while also killing everyone in half a second because of the fact that no one else has resistances.

Nasus is rubbish atm, phase rush is weak and most of the other keystone buff harass onto Nasus. Other than Yorick juggernauts are weak.

I don't even know where this guy is getting his info, 'cause it doesn't match any page on op.gg.

All you have to do to find the chart is click Stats. Oddly enough, none of your numbers match the real ones.

And no, you cannot include champions that "aren't tanks" since their kits have strengths tanks do not, which allow them to build full defense and still do damage+heal, especially against tanks.

And again, Sejuani, Amumu, Maokai, this thread is about top-lane tanks, not junglers who get a bonus to effectiveness simply by not having every other top lane subclass directly counter them.

Cho is an outlier because he builds full tank for his ultimate, which has an unintended interaction with Stoneplate in its ignorance of the damage reduction. Alistar falls into the same category as Leona and Taric. Shen and Mal, I couldn't find where you claim they are, but like Rammus have in kit defenses against ADCs.

All I did was go on OP.GG and click stats. The fact that the results are different from when you made the thread to when I replied to now is probably good enough evidence that its not the most reliable source of information.

Now, since you want to go hard on the semantics and only want to talk about top lane tanks, lets use a source that sorts champion performances by position.

According to champion.gg, looking at the chart of top laners and sorting by winrate, would you look at that, Maokai is number one (also, the fact that you say Maokai isn't a top lane tank is hilarious given thats the only place he's been played for multiple seasons now). Malphite's number five. Shen and Sion at eight and nine.

Tanks are not weak. Top lane tanks are not weak. I don't know where you are getting this stupid idea. Tanks are dominant right now, stop trying to perpetuate the myth that they are weak.

  1. A tank (in actuality) is defined as a champion who has high CC low damage and an emphasis on resistances over HP.
  2. A tank is not a champion who purchases two AD items followed by three defensive items.
  3. A tank is not a bruiser.
  4. A fighter / tank or tank / fighter role generally means that champion is a bruiser.

The term "tank" in league of legends is confusing because unlike mage, assassin, and ADC tank itemization can be utilized the same by everyone and everyone can "be a tank".

You can provide some links but im going to assume that sion builds bruiser, Taric is like all enchanters (good when the marksmen are strong), Rammus shines in the mid game before the ADC gets last whisper. Leona and rammus are the only ones up there who are true tanks.... Leona COULD be a top lane tank if she wasnt required to be in a solo lane and had proper HP/AD scalings. Seriously, she shouldnt be AP....

That's right. And I only included Sion because I saw he's actually building tank items top. (check op.gg)

They've pretty much turned every "tank" support into a pseudo enchanter with Locket.

Tanks I play include Ornn, the Kench, and I don't know about you, but I see Gragas and Sejuani played in like every big tournament so far.

Something I think you missed is Sion has a lot more base armour and that is worth a lot on a champ with a strong self shield. Overgrowth is great on him and it also makes jungle viable, I had 6800 hp on Sion jungle, I could have had over 7000 if I didn't build item 3110 (they were full ad)

I think outside of full ad people are building sion full tank like you say, but they are missing a trick. item 3053 gives a massive shield when procced because of it scaling with bonus hp...................Such as SIon W.

Honestly that item gives as much tankyness as an item without any ad and it is one of the few things letting immobile melees play the game, you only get to play the game if you make yourself REALLY tanky...
