I just don't think katarina is a very balanced champion right now
there is a little too much damage in her passive.

Its not her. Its the mastery/rune "Sudden Impact". Thats what makes chaps like Zed, Kata op atm.
:D

but her winrate is 5% higher than zed. zed winrate is 50%. her is 55%.
she has been sitting there before the rune changes
Dont forget, a Kata snowballs way Harder than Zed ;D
Her passive Daggers are most of her damage, that was the whole point of her rework.
Yes she’s strong right now, but Electrocute and Sudden Impact have a lot to do with it, as does Triumph (but Truimph is broken for everyone sooooo).
a lot of her power comes from runes as sad as it is, electrocute especially because she can easily proc it on the entire enemy team with a well placed ult and quickly escape afterwards
i play a lot of kat atm and here is my analysis, its all about her laning
if shes versing someone who outranges her or has amazing dis engage then she may have a hard time, im thinking about
and sometimes
. if shes versing someone with low dis engage options or not that much range over her
then she could have a way easier time.
If kat gets behind due to an annoying lane, or in one particular case a slow one
then she may not contribute much to the team until a bit later in the game which is undesirable. If she snowballs because she can abuse her laner with the E W Q combo then roams to bot or sometimes top she can become a large problem very early on (around when she gets gunblade)
now i have experiences of her being powerful (snowballs and not) and weak (not snowballed) so ill go through those. Powerful when she snowballs, all about how hard the enemy can stop you once you go in with hard cc, i had one game where end score was 26/2/6, i got very ahead off of a syndra in mid then helped out my bot a fair amount who were only a bit behind and from there became unstoppable complete with gunblade zhonas and mejais
powerful when not snowballed usually requires someone else on your team to compliment your kit nicely (usually a tank or support), i had one game which was a 4v5, i only got a little ahead early but our xin zhao gave me large openings and we won it via teamfights
weak when behind is obvious, this means if it takes you around 19 mins or longer to finish your gunblade then you're falling a fair bit behind (i havent played LOL in about a week so this is going off rough memory). gunblade is the basis of her power as she has double scaling on her daggers and it gives her a little (5% because all aoe) but surprisingly effective spellvamp
now how to fix her, her daggers are the main bit of her kit so it could be hard to nerf that without ruining it - possible fix is to slow the amount that it scales per level (so it reaches 100% ap scaling slower but still does in the end) her Q is a large bit of her engage so she can maximise daggers - possible fix is to slightly nerf the cd at early levels her W has no real fix other than to either nerf cd or nerf her passive her E is the main bit of her mobility and feels like a long enough cd at early levels to give you a small (around 1 sec per blink) time of exposure her R is the main bit of her kit that gives her reliable teamfights, but not really her strongest ability as it self roots, personally i use this ability most of the time to pick up the kill if they are a small distance away, or to quickly finish someone in a teamfight to get the 15 sec cd reduction on everything to be able to re engage
hopefully this helps everyone in the comments take a deeper look into kat, about how and why she is strong, but not to overexaggerate what needs to be done

trying to think how she has 55% winrate and 9% playrate in korean solo queue tho. I mean. if high elo knows this. it shouldn't be such a dominating pick.

Man, it's almost like her winrate spiked when the new runes hit
Maybe the new runes have something to do with it......
Also we're not Korea. ALSO Malzahar is one of Kat's hardest counters if not THE hardest counter to Kat and he's hardly ever banned compared to other key picks. Just pick Malzahar into Kat if you're struggling.
i forgot about malz, maybe cuz hes my 100% ban XD
Electrocute, Sudden Impact and Triumph all break her. The moment they get nerfed she's a balanced pick again.
The problem isn't Kat by herself, it's Kat in conjunction with the new runes (and possibly Gunblade's ridiculous active damage).
Plus, you're letting her get fed, that's your fault or her laner's fault.
its all about the matchup really, from my experience it determines her fed-ness 98% of the time

Mmm and Kat's matchups are all pretty volatile for both sides.
couldnt have said it better myself
