Need High Elo Advice: Never won lane against GP

Simply put, I've tried every champ against this barrel spamming GP and I've lost every time. Doesn't matter who I pick, he always has the exact same build

Gangplank summoner 3 summoner 4 item 3078 item 3158 item 3031 item 3087 it's ridiculous.

Anytime I get on top of him, it's exhaust + ult.

No matter how oppressive I am before he gets his ult, he just eats an orange and skips away. If I deny his farm and force him to sit under turret (spirit fire Nasus), he legitimately can freeze lane by destroying a whole wave with 1 barrel.

Dive him under turret with your jungler, 1 of you (the one the turret is targeting) is going to get exhausted, he's going to eat an orange, then double kill.

I even tried using Irelia, cruel slap to my face when I maxed me E first, forgetting that oranges break hard CC as well. That 2.5 second stun instantly became nothing! Same story with Pantheon XinZhao

I desperately tried Akali Katarina Diana Jax Ekko Annie but he legitimately just oranges out of everything.

Maybe Tristana?

Tryndamere wasn't even effective because of summoner 3 + ult

All your problems countered with one build.

I don't recommend building them all, but you can literally dive him with this, tank, and abuse his lane freezing as well. His oranges wont heal him as much either. You get crit resistance and he will lose attack speed upon basic attacks. You also got a shield passive in case you want to screw up.

To avoid this build, I suggest you start listening to outplays.

Stop trying to CC him. You don't beat GP with CC. Destroy his barrels, your AAs are faster than his parrrley.

Too many barrels, they don't cost any mana to throw out so he can throw them out infinitely from safe locations, like putting one under turret, then throwing out 2 saved barrels with my minion wave approaches, targets 1st barrel to detonate all 3 and clear the whole wave. Just like that, he's instantly caught up in farm. Once Triforce is complete, his Q pokes are too scary to deal with.

Except early game, the CD on his barrels is incredibly long. And early game during the laning phase, they also don't clear minion waves.

Gangplank has 3 kegs, and it takes 18 seconds for one to recharge. Powder kegs won't kill the backline creeps untill Gangplank finishes his Trinity Force.

Remove scurvy costs a fucking ton of mana, forcing him to use it often will make him run OOM soon enough.

You can walk up to GP's Keg, and then walk back to bait out his combo and make him miss it, or simply deny him the last hit.

If the GP takes exhaust, force him to back and make him pay for it with a huge disadvantage in CS and XP

If you can't beat Gangplank as Irelia or Pantheon, you're doing something wrong. Learning to play those champions properly would do a lot for ya. Jayce, Riven, Fiora, Kayle, Rumble, Wukong, Yorick are also a few examples of champs who will give him a bad time in lane.

A toplane GP's worst nightmare is getting dove by the enemy jungler, because Gangplank does not have an awnser to it and is basically a free kill for you and your jungler. Seriously, there's a reason GP doesn't see a lot of high elo play anymore.

It's 0:35 here, if I remembe this thread I might comment with a clear mind, but no guarentees. Everyone has a matchup that they struggle with, good luck beating yours :)

No as a person who used to play a ton of GP, this pretty much covers it.

I guess the other trick is to not take free barrel combos, I often hid one in the bush, and one behind me to get free chain combos either as harass or wave clear.

Champions I struggled against are Pantheon Camille Irelia Graves There's no reason I can think of that you should lose to him in lane with any of these champions.

Honestly he's weak against champions that want to trade and fight continuously. Anything with strong waveclear can stuff him under the tower frequently is no fun either unless you're really good at csing with GP.

Also time his exhaust if you're going to try to kill him, be smart about it.

Jayce ? seems like all you have to do is poke him down. Champ.gg has Illaoi Poppy Garen as his top counter picks, essentially anything that can poke him down and out sustain him or all in him and finish him off.
