Dissapointments with the Tank Update

Only one, first i will say though that Sejuanni is my favorite tank, i love her rework based on what i'v seen and i like that you took power from her ultimate to put it elsewhere it's really REALLY nice to have a full kit. Now on to my dissapointments with the tank update.

Only 3 champions were updated. Why?

I understand all three of them but the issue i have is there were more tanks that could have been touched. Malphite for example, he's litterally exactly everything you wanted changed. His whole kit except for his ultimate is outdated and he could really use a push to be back up to par with everyone else. If anything the other tanks like Amumu(minor update), Sej, Zac and Maokai will just become all the tank's we'll see since he's so outdated. Even if his ultimate is immensly strong i would have liked to see his archetype explored more. Maokai's update seems a little Meh as well, he has no new interaction that show skill expression and most champions could outrun his ultimate anyway, i do like that yasuo can't block the whole thing though.

Overall Zac looks really fun, sejuanni looks like she might become a main for me again but maokai looks to be mostly the same and i'm dissapointed that we didn't get atleast one more champion update. This update seems a little rushed overal but we'll see once it hits live server's.

Only 3 champions were touched to help give a more focused update. In the past with these updates they've always done to many at one time, that lowers the quality of each champion's update because you have to get all X number of champions finished within a certain time period. Marksman, Mage, and Assassin updates all had way to many champions that got worked on, resulting in as a minimum 2/3 being failures. The Juggernaut update was straight terrible as it was their 1st attempt. The Tank update shows that they've learned from their mistakes finally.

Ehhh, i don't agree with the assassin update having any failure's, all them are relatively balanced now after having their number's tuned. Leblance was cancer but it's because her Chain was way to strong so now they've weakened it and she's not so bad, but assassins in general should be frustrating to encourage player's to actually worry about them and take meassure's against them. Talon was strong because of lethality, and even then marksmen abused it more. Zed, talon, kha'zix and rengar were all powerful at the same time due to that and each got nerfed fairly to make them less strong, but all of them can still get fed and be frustrating.

The mage update is in my opinion the worst offender, zyra and malzahar are both unplayable midlane now and brand is a cancerous bot lane monster. The other mages that got changed didn't get changed much and are still mostly irrelivant or mostly the same as they were before.

Malph feels fairly outdated, but at least he has a very specific purpose and reason to pick him, where as all those other champions were kinda just generalist tank champions. Malphite is all about being a good pick against heavy AD comps, hes got a ton of extra armor and a strong atk spd slow.

Ehhhhhhhh, still other champions fulfill the role just fine. Why would you pick malphite over any one else? If your team simply needs engage any other tank, with a better laning phase, or juggernaut would do much better than him and still fullfill his role more effectively.

Well as far as the tank update goes, most of the HP + Armor items like item 3068 are shifting to have less HP but more armor than before, so actually I think Malphite might become a better/more popular pick after the update, seeing that he has a bonus armor % ratio, as well as an armor-to-damage ratio on his W & E.

Also item 3071 is getting it's armor shred nerfed as well, so he will definitely have more potential after the tank update.

Theoretically, he will be significantly harder to kill and he will deal more damage as well; Basically, he will still be that niece-ish pick against AD comps but he will just be better than he was before the update. Meaning that people will probably rather pick him over any other generalist engage-tanks.

I'm on the other hand disappointed with sejuani the most. Her w seems to fast to dodge and her e is point and click (so much for decreasing reliability). Yeah, you have to first get 4 stacks on someone to stun them, but you can just leave that to your melee allies like master yi. That's another problem... She's forced to melee team comps... Great. On top of that she seems like she's going to do always the same combo: get onto someone with q, beat them with w and stun them. Another champion of one combo, always using abilities in the same order. Okay, you can first beat with w and then q, which makes almost no difference.

Why her w has to be this fast? Why can't she have a proper ability on her e, like for example she swings her weapon at target location and the pulls it to her with enemies that get in between or something else? Why the hell ranged champions can't stack her passive at reduced speed? And why can't she have some actually cool mechanic like empowering her attacks based on movement? Like if you run in one direction and the turn your attack or ability in that moment hits harder because of momentum? Or anything like that? Meh....

Because, ranged champions already have enough of an advantage, if sejuanni synergized with an ADC she would just become a support. Instead they made her synergize with melee fighter's and diver's because they didn't want her to be another generic engage tank like malphite or amumu but she's a tank so she still needs to engage for her team. What better way than to engage with a skirmisher like Riven, Camille or Fiora. That way fiora can go off, kill the carries and still be able to get out because of sejuanni.

She's meant to help fighter's not carries, if you tried to use master YI with her i'd imagine it would fail because master Yi would probably die, but combing her fighter's and diver's is different because it makes it easier for them and benefits sejuanni more. (currently no champions synergize with fighter's or diver's enough unless its purposely built in to the fighter's kit, such as with yasuo.)

It's forcing into team comps. And I want to play her no matter what my other teammates pick. I don't want to be basically nerfed because my team decided to play mostly ranged champions. And even if that happens to be no problem, cause of her having already good synergy with ranged champions (which I don't believe at all, cause i prefer even as sion having someone to follow up like diver instead of entire team doing pew pew when I'm trying to tank and disrupt entire team myself) there's still other problems. Like I said her w being to fast and her e being stupid point and click when they wanted to decrease reliability and the fact that because she have to first stack this e before using it can cause her to use abilities in the same order almost in any situation. By far the worst of the three big updates.

Malphite for example, he's litterally exactly everything you wanted changed.

Malphite and several older champions that fall under the Tank category and their sub classes wouldn't get enough from a Class Update. He (and a few others) need full VGUs to really bring them back up to par.

Zerenza1 votes

I thought that but i think if he were part of it, no one would mind and it would be nice to touch him up before his eventual rework. Considering MANY other champions are before him.

Sukishoo1 votes

True, but Riot won't do that. They want to save their resources as much as they can to give each champion the update that they deserve.

There seems to be no fun in sejuani kit.

The stun beeing delayed will make her frustrating to use against mobile target and she lost her only cool momentum (aka 5 man ult) They put too much powerbudget in the passive steroid, making her a strong candidate for next malzahar. If the fact of hitting frozen target was worth it maybe it could work, but as the damage can be mitigated with mr it will be unoticable

No, I'm very, very underwhelmed by this rework
