The Might of Demacia- AKA The Cancer of Demacia

SP Dodgecity··4 votes·2,058 views

Lets take a look at traditional meta's You have a Caster/magical glass cannon, they do lots of damage but IN TURN for that damage they naturally become easier to kill You have a Tank who is strong and hard to kill that distracts the enemy with either his body or with crowd control abilities You have a healer, AKA a support, that again is usually vulnerable to damage but trades that off for being able to keep the tank OR the caster alive or the... DPS, next you have the Damage per second (DPS) player AKA the ADC. They do high amounts of physical damage usually and again are easier to kill We have one other player in league called the jungle, they roam around the map applying critical pressure where needed, they secure objectives they are usually physical damage based but some are magic based as well. These vary a lot

NOW thats usually how meta's go for the most part. It's a simple way to balance the game, but in League we don't have this balance and I can prove it over and over again. For example---

   ---Lets look at ![Garen](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.20.1/img/champion/Garen.png)

Garen can 1) Take enormous amounts of damage naturally (meaning without items) so no need for a TANK on the team Garen can 2) Heal himself by disengaging from combat No need for a healer (especially with item 3065 item 3083 Garen can 3) Do a large amount of physical damage, comparable to an ADC/APC or DPS based champion especially with item 3071 Garen can 4) Silence key champions and can run straight through front line defenses Garen can 5) Nuke for a huge amount of damage with his "R" ability, this doesn't affect other TANKS that much but It does affect other "squishies" Like the ADC and the APC who are the key component to a team doing damage. Obvious in their name. and Garen can 6) focus champions that have high KDA (Kills to Deaths to Assists ratio's) with his ult doing TRUE damage that is impossible to defend against if it hits you (with the exception of item 3157 type of abilities)

Still looking at Garen, we also see that the common build patterns for Garen are primarily 1 movement based item 4-5 tank based items, and 0-1 damage based items. If you don't understand what that means let me explain. Garen is playing the role of tank, his own healer, DPS, and Assassin (meaning killing a unit extremely quickly in a "Burst" similar to DPS based champions except these types focus on killing a individual champion and escaping) All in all, you can't kill him, you can't defend against him, you can only focus him with your whole team or focus an ENTIRE TEAM COMP with heavy CC to counter him, or you can try and out run him (Unlikely) and get around him to the other 4 members on the other side.

Not to mention Garen is also one of THE MOST simple and easy champs to play in league. You can land/hit garen with everything you have and he'll match that damage with solely spinning. Champions like Garen are toxic for the game, they break balance literally.

A game in which players have to base entire teams to stop a single other player that has 4 other champions that you also have to worry about, frustrates entire teams.

People say, "well that's just the game" or "counter build him" or "out play him" which falls directly under the point above, any "1" champion shouldn't by appearance, force "5" other players to bend: champion picks, ability order, item purchasing, and team strategy. "1" single champion shouldn't have that kind of an affect on the game. It's the definition of "broken" something that is so unhealthy for a game is broken. This is the same reason why Teemo is disabled for "one-for-all" match types.

ADC-easy to kill, high damage output APC-easy to kill, high damage output TANK-hard to kill, CC focused, low damage per second Healer-Low damage, easy/medium defence keeps tank or other champions alive through the fight Or have CC focused abilities Jungler-medium to high damage, low to medium defence, focus on map pressure

Garen- High damage, High defense, Self healing, Fast mobility, AOE damage, Nuke/true damage Ultimate ability, requires team pick counter, item counter, and heavy CC to defeat. Garen has everything every role is good at but none of the trade offs. Take a look at his picture in the League client, it describes Garen as having near the same damage output as ADC's but with 3X's the defense potential. League even acknowledges his power and no one cares enough to speak out about it. Lets get something to change to make the League community healthy again.

"Fast mobility"? Not only has he always been easy to kite, but he has been both directly and indirectly nerfed in terms of movement speed recently.

Just because you don't know how to kite properly doesn't mean you get to list his late game strengths and call it an argument. Come on man, at least put some effort into it.

Sure your post is long, but lots of text does not make up for the fact that you're just another person who lists a champions strengths and is all but blind to their weaknesses. You have to understand both sides of an argument to really put a good argument forth, and so long as you're primarily just looking at a list of strengths you simply cannot do that.

For 1 you're a Garen main and are unranked this season. Last I could see you were in G5 and your two top champions were Garen and Nasus. SO you my friend are the perfect example of someone who abuses easy to play champions with High damage High defense meta's

So don't get on here and act like you know anything when your progress in league is centered around the champion in discussion.

Secondly name me his weaknesses and compare them to his strengths.

Your argument is to kite... thats it? Really, I named countless examples of his strengths. There aren't many if any weaknesses.

I named my counter argument above, you have to have heavy CC and you have to run from him AKA kite him to avoid his damage.

Any champion THAT REQUIRES you to focus every single ability and player on him to just stop him from killing all of your back line is not only broken but flat out cancerous.

You make me laugh with your hypocritical argument that really doesn't state anything specifically other than, "he got a nerf/buff" and "he's so easy to kite just kite" You for real right now?

Get outa here with your weak ass comments XD

are you high. like legit just look like you have no idea how to play vs champions that are easy to kill

SP Dodgecity1 votes

I already said how to play against him, am I wrong? How do you play against him?

I'm not saying you physically can't play against him or counter him, I'm saying that a single champion shouldn't force a 5 man team counter him.

Just like a fed Master Yi, or any other hypercarry or tank/bruiser

redniwediS3 votes

Let's be real man, no one makes a post like yours if they actually know how to beat a simple champion like Garen.

You know the easiest way to tell? You listed Garen's self healing as a strength, when it's trash for most of the game. I can't wait to see you try to argue against this very well accepted fact.

SP Dodgecity1 votes

Garen is a FKING EXAMPLE. It is not the entire point to the post, it is not what I'm saying, Im saying Garen is apart of the problem and is, like his play style, the simplest example to find. Garen isn't complicated so he's the one to use for an EXAMPLE like this, don't talk to me when you haven't read the full post. If you had then you would know that Garen was simply an example.

redniwediS1 votes

I read your post, and I generally disagree with it.

However your use of Garen as an example is a completely flawed one. You focused only on strengths, left out his weaknesses that allow those strengths to exist, and did a rather poor job putting it all together.

Look at your title. Look at each individual example you pulled from Garen. He's not just an example here, he is the core of your entire argument, and I'm simply pointing out that this core is flawed. Don't like it? Find a better structure for your main argument.

SP Dodgecity1 votes

Yes Garen is the focus here because he's extremely simple. And I put his weaknesses in there like, using heavy CC stops him, Kiting stops him, counter building or counter picking champions stops him.

I'm not saying I personally have a problem with Garen, i'm saying he's a simple example to use in an argument. The fact that you don't like the arguement I posted doesn't really mean a lot to mean because the point is that Garen is only a piece of a puzzle of overpowered champions. YOu've so far not acknowledged the actual point.

Sure my core may be flawed but the over all message? The point was any ONE champion shouldn't have a large enough affect to Five other players. Simply putting it. This goes for any hypercarry or any broken champion. You've played league. Can You honestly tell me that there haven't been broken champions before???

Can you honestly say that Darius wasn't broken? Tank Assassin Malphite wasn't broken? Bruiser Xin wasn't borken? Bruiser Yi wasn't Broken?

Can you honestly say that league is decently balanced at the moment?

That's the point you're avoiding.

redniwediS1 votes

I'm "avoiding" it because you're not properly separating strong champions from overly strong champions. There's simply no way I can touch that point at this time without getting into an argument I really have no interest in having right now.

However I will say this; broken, overpowered, and strong are not synonyms of one another. If you want me to touch on this point you should get this one fact in your head.

Annnnd? I mentioned that because it shows how dependent he is on Garen and Garen type tanks, like Nasus. You pulled a single line of quote my friend. It doesn't amatter what rank I am, it matters what my points were. If the points are wrong then state why, if not then stfu.

Again, if you have nothing for the argument other than this weak comment than gtfo and come back with something worth my time.

But who cares really, all that will come are fan boys avoiding the argument and stating dumb fan boy shit XD whatever haha

Annnnd?

dont call people out on their rank, if you have nothing to show for yourself. and make no mistake. silver 5 means nothing, possibly less than someone whos unranked and might still have potential. youve already proven that you have none.

this is why ive never agreed with the ranked system after season 2. it made more sense when people at your mmr were still counted as unranked instead of labled with a badge of shame.

it would also prevent those cases where people think theyre the hottest shit and know every single aspect of the game thanks to that silver badge, because they barely made it out of the worst division possible, and actually still play most of their games in bronze.

SP Dodgecity1 votes

XD sure, again bro I could care less about rank, it literally means nothing, ranking in league is a matter of time and sticking to the meta.

what you're saying means nothing to me because you and I have never gone against each other, or with each other into a match.

Maybe I was living in mexico serving others for 6 monhts, maybe In high school i woke up at 6am and went to be at midnight to keep up with plays, sports, clubs, school, and jobs? Maybe I worked til 2am in on the week ends.

You don't know me bitch and looking at my rank means literally nothing to me. Come 1v1 me and find out how terrible I am at the game. You won't because league is a game of time. You put X number of hours in and get X number of ranks higher. Its how literally anything in life is. You put X number of hours in studying and you get X value of grades. X number of hours in football, you get X chance of success.

Its about time and thats what league is designed for.

So again. Prove my argument wrong above or GTFO XD You're avoiding the main point and latching onto a single sentence, your argument is shit.

Come back when you actually have something [slayer-jinx-catface]

Super duper strong.

http://champion.gg/champion/Garen

Just like Garen lmao.

Garen in particular has almost no impact when against players who know how to kite him and prevent him from reaching the enemy carries. His relatively high damage (it isn't as high as an AD Carry's by the way) and huge tankiness are balanced by his difficulties in getting onto the backline when against players who aren't stupid.

zlumpy1 votes

legit question here but shouldn't garen just be off split pushing somewhere?

redniwediS1 votes

Depends. Garen is in a unique spot where he is equally useful in a team fight as he is split pushing. By the same card he is equally useless in both situations.

This makes the answer to your question completely situational. There's always a time where you can outmaneuver an opposing team and catch them off guard, meaning he should team fight, and there's always a time where fighting head on like that will get him kited and killed, meaning he should split push.

He does well when switching between the two strategies as needed.

AlwaysByMySide1 votes

{quoted}

legit question here but shouldn't garen just be off split pushing somewhere?

He can splitpush, but he doesn't scale well enough as a duelist to do it as well as the best at it. Master Yi can legitimately kill Garen 1v1 while Garen is under his turret late game, for example. He also doesn't take turrets as well as Yi, Tryndamere, Jax, or Nasus.

redniwediS2 votes

Oh no, you got me. It's not like ranked isn't fun this season, or that I got gold last season and you only got silver, but let's ignore that.

He's easy to beat man. Garen is such a straight forward champion with easy to abuse weaknesses. How on Earth do you have difficulty facing him?

Yes, I main Garen, but I'm quite obviously not speaking from my experience of playing him. In case you haven't noticed I was talking about how to play against Garen, which I also have to do from time to time. I can beat him reliably, on my own, without requiring my team to take heavy CC. The fact that you can't and you're not a new player is honestly a little embarrassing.

SP Dodgecity1 votes

I never said that I couldn't beat Garen 1v1, again I know how to do it. I know what needs to be done. What Im saying is that the whole idea of "1" champion having a signifigantly larger impact on the game than 80% of the other champions is a broken system.

Have you looked at the updates for league in the past months? They do the same champions over and over and over. They completely ignore a huge portion of champions. One champion I main that I love to play but is hardly viable without a great team comp is Kennen. Before the mage update, Kennen wasn't touched for a year. Other than a few bug fixes. AN ENTIRE YEAR and thats not the only champion that hasn't been touched for that long either. You know how much changed in league after a year? Almost everything, Items, abilities, objectives, stats, ratios, etc. and yet there are champions left behind while others like TANKS have a huge advantage and impact on a match which is the entire point of the post if you actually read it.

redniwediS1 votes

I take it you're new around here. I say this because you have fallen for quite a few things that are repeatedly shown as wrong.

Tanks do not have a huge advantage. Tanks are a role characterized by high defense, low to medium damage, and medium to high utility. You're not talking about true Tanks.

Garen, according to the old system of champion attributes, is a primary Fighter, secondary Tank. This primary/secondary combo has been rolled into the term Juggernaut according to the new system. Tanking is a secondary part of what Juggernauts are, where as Fighter, a role characterized by medium to high damage, is primary.

To put it simply you need more than high defense to be a Tank.

You also have to keep in mind that Riot is going through and updating each set of roles, one by one. First Juggernauts, then Marksmen, then Mages, and next Assassins. They will continue to do this until each and every champion has been properly updated.

Also keep in mind what I was saying to Caitlyn. In order for it to be a tank meta defensive items would have to be superior to offensive items. This is simply not the case. Armor has never been weaker and health scaling damage is at it's highest in League's history. Magic Resist isn't in a terrible spot, as it has been far worse within recent memory, but it could still use some improvements. Not buffs, but improvements.

Offensive items are guiding the current meta. The only tanky champions (tanky, not tank) that are doing well are the ones who use hybrid offense/defense items to their full extent and champions who have rather absurd base damage.

Let me say that again; the only tanky champions that are doing well are the ones that do damage.

Now, you've chosen to specifically use an example of a champion who is designed to both be tanky and do damage. This has been his job for over half a decade, and other champions who follow a similar role will continue to do this in the future. Their balance points are around weaknesses that you completely failed to bring up in your main post.

There are champions, however, who are not supposed to be filling this role, but manage to do it anyway. There are two sets of these champions; true tanks that are doing too much damage, and non-tanks that are taking too much damage. Juggernauts do not fit into either category.

The first group, the true tanks who do too much damage, are champions like Maokai, Nautlius, and Malphite. They are honestly in a reasonable position for the moment, even though they are in serious need of updating. Their current place in the game is a fairly healthy one so they can likely wait a while until true tanks are next on the update list.

The second group involves champions like Ekko, Fizz, and Akali who are building tank but still doing damage. As I said earlier there are champions who are allowed to do this, but they are balanced around weaknesses, primarily when it comes to CC, mobility, and kiting. These weaknesses are not shared by the assassins I previously mentioned. Assassins are supposed to be high damage, high mobility, with their weakness being their defensive capability.

They are currently able to build heavy defensive items to cover this weakness, and while having a champion with no weaknesses is not necessarily unbalanced such a champion would also be required to have no strengths. Assassins are next on the update list for quite a few reasons.

Now, I'll say this in as constructive a way I can. Your original post failed because you did not cover champion weaknesses. Weaknesses are always the key when discussing champion strength.

High defense, high offense, and high mobility is unbalanced and requires attention.

High defense, high offense, but low mobility is easily balance-able. The champion type you're calling attention to might need some tweaking, but nothing on the level your post would seem to be requesting.

So to put it simply:

Almost everything, Items, abilities, objectives, stats, ratios, etc. and yet there are champions left behind while others like TANKS have a huge advantage and impact on a match

This is blatantly wrong and only works as evidence showing your lack of knowledge here. Items and ratios actually support offensive champions, abilities and objectives are fully champion dependent, and stats has absolutely no place in that list.

redniwediS4 votes

Right, because champions doing high damage makes it a tank meta. Nice logic mate.

A real tank meta would be about defensive stats and items, not champions doing high damage when they "shouldn't". But who am I kidding, that would make sense, and I do know who I'm replying to.

SP Dodgecity2 votes

No it doesn't XD

I CAN'T EVEN COMPREHEND how much of a fan boy you are of these kinds of champions. You just said that they being TANK BASED champion and still doing high amounts of damage makes SENSE?! Are you freaking crazy? What balance world do you live in?

"I can barely break your armor, and you can cut through my whole team alone, sounds balanced ;D" Really?! hahah XD

redniwediS3 votes

First off Caitlyn is the one I was responding to, who is a well known troll who makes poor posts. Might want to keep that in mind before defending what was said.

"League of Tanks" is in reference to the thought that we are currently in a tank meta. Tank metas usually show up when true tanks are overpowered due to defensive items outscaling offensive items. We haven't had a meta like this in a very long time, so it's no surprise most players don't actually know what one looks like.

So please, before you call me a fan boy for replying to a known troll about what type of meta we're in do try and understand what is actually being said, because you're making a fool of yourself here.

SP Dodgecity1 votes

Ok you said it not me. You just said that ,"true tanks are overpowered due to defensive items outscaling offensive items..." You just said my entire argument, and yet you're saying im wrong? Damn I've lost hope for this community lmao.

redniwediS1 votes

Extend that quote back a little bit so you get the beginning of that sentence. Cutting it off where you did takes it completely out of context.

SP Dodgecity1 votes

You've taken most of if not all of my posts out of context so I don't really care. Malphite Ulting a back line and killing the backline in one quick burst when he's full tank is a problem. Darius scales fast than most Rammus gets huge boosts in attack damage and is very tanky.

There are more examples and you've not read all of my post to know that. You've seen Garen you're beloved main as the head of the conversation without reading into why he was used as an example.

redniwediS1 votes

I haven't taken anything out of context. Maybe it's not fitting the context you think your post has, but I don't read between lines. When taking your posts at face value my replies are fully in context.

How can you have problems with Garen of all people?

IT'S FUCKING GAREN.

SP Dodgecity2 votes

Again LMAO garen is just one single example. This is about ALL The tanks that do high damage on merit and not through item build.

Void Nargacuga4 votes

Are you sure your not confusing FIGHTER primary champions for TANKS? Because Garen is a Fighter of the subclass: JUGGERNAUT of which deals fuck tons of damage and have NO form of mobility when compared to someone like Lucian and his dashes, or Riven and her triple Q and E.

Ralanr3 votes

My god, THANK YOU FOR KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE.

SithesisLord2 votes

Take enormous amounts of damage naturally (meaning without items) so no need for a TANK on the team

Kayle Oh hey, you came up to farm and now your passive is permanently nullified. Lulz.

Garen can 2) Heal himself by disengaging from combat No need for a healer (especially with item 3065 item 3083 )

Make sure he doesn´t then? It´s really not all that difficult.

Garen can 3) Do a large amount of physical damage, comparable to an ADC/APC or DPS based champion especially with item 3071

Kite him. If he can´t reach you he can´t do damage. Even a slow when used after he uses his Q does the job just fine.

Garen can 4) Silence key champions and can run straight through front line defenses

Lest we forget, he needs to use his Q to get close, in the mean time, there are several champions who can slow him before he does get close, most likely making him burn flash to get through to the back line.

Garen can 5) Nuke for a huge amount of damage with his "R" ability, this doesn't affect other TANKS that much but It does affect other "squishies" Like the ADC and the APC who are the key component to a team doing damage. Obvious in their name.

Only if 1) They´re the villain and are low on HP or 2) Are just low on HP. The lower you are, the more damage it´ll make. A Garen 100-50 an ADC then ulting will do shit.

Garen can 6) focus champions that have high KDA (Kills to Deaths to Assists ratio's) with his ult doing TRUE damage that is impossible to defend against if it hits you (with the exception of item 3157 type of abilities)

If you let him get to your carries and you´re supposed to be protecting them, then that´s your fault, not Garen's unexistant OPness.

And this is coming from a Kayle and Irelia main, both of which are much more useful to a team comp than he is.

SP Dodgecity1 votes

Again.... Garen is simply an example... you're missing the point and I no longer feel like explaining. Read the post and you'll understand the point being made.

An easier way to grasp it is look at Garen's description in the LOL client. He's described as Medium to high damage, medium to high defense. Just like im saying here. But whatever you've missed the point

DeathBurst1 votes

So, I have one simple question: if your analysis is true, how comes that Garen is never played in high competitive games, and not very popular past Gold division?

SP Dodgecity1 votes

Because teams shut him down in higher divisions. Garen is solely an example. The point is Garen is simple and easy to make an example of. We could talk about Malphite or Darius (who is played in LCS and Im sure I've seen plenty of quadra and penta kills to darius sooo...)

Again, Garen was an example, he's part of a broken meta. I don't care about laning agianst Garen, Garen is only a problem to me when Im a support. I can keep him off my backline but our team didn't counter build. I get it, Garen is easy to counter, but he's also easy to explain as being part of a meta in which tanks are severely outscaling others.

DeathBurst2 votes

Well, for one, Garen and Darius are not Tanks, they are Juggernaut. Malph is indeed a Tank.

Then, they aren't exactly out-scaling others. An ADC still have tremendous DPS, still more than Garen or Darius could ever hope for. Assassins still have more Burst than any Juggernaut. And Tanks who build like Tanks (so, no full AP Malphite please...) deal very little damage. They deal a bit more than before, with Grasp/Iceborn/Sunfire, but that's still very little compared to other classes.

Tanks (or Juggernauts) are not the problem in this meta, and your analysis is completely flawed.

Baunjo1 votes

Honestly though besides your point AP malphite is a blast xD

DeathBurst1 votes

For sure it is, but it is not a Tank abusing the Tank meta ;)

Baunjo1 votes

I don't think any specific champion class is especially outshining everyone right now. They are all pretty equally broken, and I love tanks so I'm happy.
