every time I go either a tank, support, or something like malphite or nasus that wont hard carry but will usually not do bad in lane i end up losing because either bot mid or jg has been fed by the other members. Do i seriously have to play a massive hard carry regardless of role? Are tanks even needed any more?

Nyaboron1 votesCarrying speeds the process of climbing. You don't need to but it's faster. If you consistently do well you will climb as long as you play quite a bit. If you are good enough with specific snowbally champions then you will climb faster as you may be able to win close games you otherwise may have lost.
