IP gain seems a little low.

IP gaining is a crucial part for new players as well as constant players. It goes to show that you can buy more with RP but that's for more of the more professional players. IP is used solely for runes and gaining champs. But as more come in it becomes the challenge to try and get it.

Some may say this isn't needed but I say it would benefit greatly. IP is now gained too slowly to be fair.

I will play a game for 20 minutes and gain only 40-50 IP. Now I'm not trying to be unreasonable but that said, it would take 9 games to get a 450 IP champ. So if you do the math right, that would mean it would take over 20+ to get a 1350 IP champ. Now there is the +150IP for the win of the day but that's if I win.

I don't have all the time to play LoL like I would to get some of the champs I'd like. I suggest that there be a raise in IP gain. make it so that when you at least get to a 20 or 30 minute mark, the player receives minimum of 150 IP itself. This is only a boost of 40-50 from its original value if one hits this mark. This will also mean the losing team will gain the half of this but that is also ok as well.

When surrendering, there should be an added surrender boost for the winning team. This will make it alright with more likely both sides for a forfeit. This bonus could range from +15 or more depending on the amount of time playing the match.

Edit

Champions have been brought out into this game over and over. But the more there are, means the more the player has to spend. I've counted this by rows to see how many of each category there are of champions. There are at least 7 champs with 450 IP, there are at least 22 with 1350 IP, almost 24 with 3150 IP, 31 with 4800 IP, and 32 with 6300 IP. So the odds are more that someone new will have a hard time getting any champ above 3150 IP unless the player wants just certain champs which will still take a while.

If you say that (compared to yourselves) that you only play certain champs then that is alright but there are those who would still like to try each of them, get a feel of the champ, and see if they are worth getting. Thus the Free Champ Selection weekly. But even that seems to have flaws in my eyes.

Usually 1 spot or more will be filled with a 450 IP champion. This should not be needed. Unless they plan to reduce another to 450 this does not seem a fair rotation. These spots could be filled with underplayed champs that could be played again if put there (such as Yorick, Zac, Swain, and more). Now the ones listed are played. I know but its crazy to think how many times I will see a Yasuo in each game I've played.

At Riot HQ: "maybe we should give our players more things for free"

"What are you stupid? Were a company! That's how we make money! This is a FREE* game what more do these plebeians want?"

At Valve HQ: "my lord Gaben! We have lowered prices again! Full AAA games can now be purchased for the price of a piece of vending machine candy!"

"Excellent. How goes the master plan ?"

"We're still the highest earning gaming company, the highest rated by gamers, with the best reputation for integrity, and we produce little to no content on our own with a tiny team of developers. The players are now producing most of what "we" put out thanks to steam workshop. "

"Fantastic! More sales! More discounts! Let the wild rumpus continue!"

I couldn't help but laugh at this. This is very true and evil but more on the side of humor. If our world were full of discounts, how would we know if they were really discounts? (*mind blown) How would JCPenny's react?

Those must be some expensive pieces of candy. 0_o

I paid a dollar fifty for dragon age: origins complete during a summer sale.

A dollar fifty will buy me a king size Hershey's bar in the vending machine in my offices lobby.

i remember when hershey bars only cost 50¢. those were the better days where you did not get ripped off.

That is horrible comparison when you put it like that, it seems like you forget hat Valve still has tons more content to make money on than Riot. Valve games still sale, and they make plenty of marketing royalties on the games sold on Steam. Now, let's look at Valve. Yes, they should increase the IP output because IP sales don't earn them money and they would make money on RP regardless of IP output being higher. But, let's look at this realistically. Riot ONLY does League of Legends and Valve has multiple I.P's with multiple sequels and makes royalties on Steam.

Riot knows it sucks, and it sucks on purpose so they can make you play longer. It's why the Rune system requires your IP, and you need IP to unlock champions. The more they can make you play, the more likely you are to purchase RP especially if you're fed up with not having any champions as a new player.

TL;DR - They aren't going to change their system for gaining revenue

It really depends on how much IP you need, and how quickly you need it.

On the one hand there's players like me. I personally cling to a small pool of champions, and only have the free 2 runepages. In other words, I have a low demand for IP. This means that I have a massive surplus of IP, even though I don't play so often.

On the other hand there's players who buy champions and runes wide and far. Unless they spend RP, they'll be perpetually short on IP; they have a high demand for IP.

My point here is that there's a great range of IP demand among the playerbase. Who do you balance IP gains around?

Personally... adjusting IP rates merely shifts a set of problems one direction or another.

I'd personally rather have a token system with a games played as an additional "lock" on the token. You'd only get a single token a month, but after 50 games played a token is "unlocked" and can be redeemed for a single free champion regardless of IP cost or can be redeemed for a single skin for the cost of the token and 15x the skin's RP cost of the skin in IP as an additional cost. (Legendary and time limited skins would be excluded from the token offers, but anything else is fair game... this means that 390 RP skins would cost 5850 IP and 1350 RP skins would cost 20250 IP respectively. With high value skins costing roughly three times what a new champion goes for those with massive amounts of banked IP would see the number go down over the course of time.)

Those sitting on stockpiles of IP that own all the champions have an incentive to burn through their IP stockpile for a "free" skin once a month and newer players desperate to unlock champions and runes together can get their hands on a newer champion once a month for free. (Though if they really want a skin, nothing stopping a new player from spending that much IP on it, terribly inefficient though.)

Riot wins as its easier to retain players because they can look forward to something "shiny" once a month. And players win because it gets somewhat easier to acquire relevant champions or to have the option to spend some of their banked IP that is otherwise useless on a reward in the form of a skin for one of their champions.

As for the games played restriction? Sadly that has to be there to make it less appetizing to farm accounts to sell. And at 50 games a month it gets easier to spot anyone trying to afk/script/macro/etc their way to the unlock.

I know this idea was posted before and talked about but you bring new meaning to this token idea. You've brought to light a side of the token that many would enjoy. The token can be used for those who cannot or possibly will not spend the money on the game. But a token once a month to get a certain champ may seem difficult to those who have all champs or those who don't to let happen. And this is why, it makes it much easier than the raise in IP. I could if I wanted get 1 or 2 champs a month in the 4800 bracket with just playing alone. But this would allow those who gain 50 wins another token which would at least allow 2 tokens once every 2 to 5 months. Which can be dependent on the player but we must be as hypothetical as well.

I do like it though allowing the change from RP to IP in skins. That is helpful for those who would like to at least see something new on their main. The free character will allow for 6300 IP and as you should had said, it should also work for 7800 IP as well. You hadn't put a restriction on that limit. If I were to allow free champs. It would be from the half way mark down. That way they will have a good amount to chose from. The half way mark also changes based on who you have so far. The more you get from the lower half, the more you can get for free (via token) as more get down to the lower half from the higher. There are times when odd numbers are there such as now there are exactly 120 champs. say that there get 1 and now its 119 and you want to use the token. The half mark is still where it was before when it was 60 and won't reduce to 59 until there are 118 champs left to get. This will not only keep new champs just released safe but those that people worked hard to get as well. It will also make for more time to play instead of the wait.

Yes IP gain is slow and incredibly painful. playing coop beginner on twisted treeline to get my first win of the day is weird too. Would be nice to see a weekly allocation of bonus ip that gets used at first maybe.

Definitely need a surrender bonus - I shouldn't take an ip reward penalty because I played well enough to warrant am early surrender. Only for matched games though.

I think champions just need to be discounted faster though. As more come out it becomes so overwhelming to ever get them all, or even a solid chunk to work with. Let new players get the old ones relatively cheaply, as for the most part the new ones are the most consistently strong anyways.

Honestly if they upped the ip amount just a smudge and added bundles for runes along with the ability to purchase them with rp everything would be great. They would get more money, you would feel like you accomplish more, and runes wouldn't be something that you dread purchasing with your valuable ip. However besides my rune statement(rp purchase) I doubt they will change anything. And I say that because they have commented somewhat positively to reducing rune cost and/or purchasing it with rp.

So, I'm a new player; I've been playing for about a month now. And I actually think the IP gain is fine. You're not going to buy any champions your first 2-3 weeks because you're just learning the game and trying out free champs. You can start the game with 3 free champs + skins (Tristana, Alistar, Garen for NA) if you feel the need to start your own pool. So for the first 3 weeks you're doing nothing but saving IP. With the first win bonus you can get a max of 300IP for a single game once a day, so it will take you 2 days to get your first cheap champ if you really want it. Additionally, you get a 4 win IP boost for registering your email, so bump that 300IP I said earlier up to 500-600 and 300 for 3 more games. You can get a max of 1500 on your first day (assuming you take the max for all the boosts and ip gains) and should easily have a small champ pool in your first few weeks.

And past that, I think the pace of IP gain is pretty good. I only play 2 - 3 (bot) games a night, have 3 champs (which makes 1 champ bought per 1 - 2 weeks) usually find one or two in the champ rotations that I like, and have a nice little pool of IP saved up for when I hit 20 and start investing in Runes.

Rew7111 votes

Try playing for a year and not gaining half the champs. This goes for both wins and loss. It is shown to be very impossible to get the champs without those IP boosts unless you win countless times a day while playing largely a majority of the day as well. Not everyone can do that. The free champs you are talking about are indeed useful but that was because you went through the trouble of looking for these. I hadn't even known about this until months after I got each champ. 3150 IP was waisted due to this. Making a more valid point as to why those 3 should not be in the free champ per week. I believe ranked does give more IP when played but its only worth it if you can win it.

I've been playing since last November and I own 77 champions. I own every support and all but 2 ADCs (Lucians, Kogmaw) which are my two mains. On top of that I own about half of the mages, a few assassins, and a good enough array of toplaners/junglers if I get put into that role. I'm pretty sure that by November I'll own all the adcs and mages and I'll probably have close to 100 champions. Yes I've bought a couple of champions with RP when they went on 50% off sale, but I've bought no more than 6 or 7 that way and I'm pretty sure 70 champions is still more than half off the champions in league.

Yes it is slow when you don't have enough. Then when you've got everything you want, it's pointless. I'd like to see this overhauled personally.

2000boxes1 votes

you only get 150 ip for win of the day game? or is that total you earn plus the 150 as a bonus cause in total if i win my first game of the day all the ip added up is 237 usually

Vampy3k1 votes

The 150 is a bonus. At the end of a match you can see a breakdown of all the IP you get and where it's coming from (win/loss, bonuses, etc.)

IMO, the problem with IP gains is that runes, necessary for players to have, are gated by ip, in addition to level.

At the rate riot discounts champions, the overall IP to buy them all will continue to rise, just with the requirement for runes to stay the same.

I am very ADHD with champions, and love to play a large number of them.

If not something about costs, at least we should have double ip weekends more often.

http://wastedonlol.com/na-grimreapur/ Ive purchased many 6300 champions with RP, at least 8+. Ive never purchased a champion for 7800 IP, there are currently 7 (soon to be 8) 6300 IP champions i do not own. 94 days of play time, 2254 hours of my life and I have not received every champion, dont even get me started on my lack of rune pages and runes. If Riot made a 10-25% increase on IP gains it would be amazing, and make the process still very slow and people will still get that feeling that they're done with the game once they buy everything, which is something Riot wants to avoid. But that sadly cannot be avoided, and a medium sized increase such as this would be great in my opinion. It would make the process less painful for every one, but there is no monetary gain in this for RIot as a company, and lots of people see IP gains as something that is set in stone and never to be changed, so theres no point in trying. League of Legends allows you to pay for convenience and make it easier to get champions, and the system they have right now makes them "tons of money" as im sure phreak would say. The odds of it changing are slim to none.

Tsunday2 votes

quinzelette, you've spent about 987 hours on League of Legends which means 41 days of your life. You are 232413th on NA servers and 1452021th in the world.

I own 77 champions, a decent number of runes (about 2 or 3 sets of each of the 4 types) and I've bought less champions with RP than you, not to mention some of the ones I bought weren't even 6300s, I just bought a few I wanted when they went on 50% off sale. Idk how you're having problems with IP if you have so many more hours clocked than me. You must have been playing a lot of Coop vs AI while leveling up or something

Downfall1 votes

When I was playing Co-op vs. AI in season 1, there was no IP timer for customs and AI games.

FantasySniper1 votes

I would like some IP every time the servers go bad.

Just going to sit there and rake it in.
