How can I be less toxic?

I've known for a long time that this game makes me feel frustrated and defeated. I'm less than halfway through my second chat restriction and first ranked restriction. I've talked about being toxic a lot on these forums, and what I keep getting told again and again is that I need to change my behavior. I'm here to ask you how.

Literally anything and everything can make me feel that the game is either unwinnable or that a win is undeserved. Some of the time when I rage about how defeated we are, we really could win that game. Some of the time I'm objectively doing really well. Some of the time we have a snowball's chance in hell of losing that game, and I still want to forfeit from just how defeated I personally feel.

The last game I just played, on chat restriction, I got that feeling again. Of course I wanted to rage into chat. Lacking that option, though, I decided to just sit in base and wait for the game to be over. It was a close game. It could've gone either way had I tried, really.

It's not that I want to be a defeatist. I want to win as many games as possible. It's just that in game, when these situations are thrown at me, I react the way I do. If you think I'm so capable of changing my behavior, how about some tips on how to accomplish that?

You lack self-control and maturity, I don't know how anyone can tell you how to act differently. I think a long break from League might be your best solution until you can learn to control your emotions. Come back fresh.

At least you know you're a problem, but how long are you going to make other players suffer and ruin their experiences? You need to understand this is a game and if you can't have fun playing it, you need to find something else.

Stop talking. If you have to scream at someone, say it out aloud rather than typing it to them(assuming you aren't using Curse Voice). If it's something you don't want people to hear you say out loud, then perhaps it's not something you should say to anyone.

"Just don't be toxic". Yes, that tells me exactly how to not be toxic. Thanks for that.

If you honestly can't control yourself to the extent of not being able to stop yourself from insulting others over a game, you have bigger problems than toxicity in League.

Look into anger management.

If all else fails, stop playing competitive games, because from what I'm reading, you don't even enjoy playing anyway.

I don't really know how to help you honestly. You just need to stop being so ruled by your emotions and try to force yourself to think rationally. You make it clear that you know you can win a lot of the time when you feel defeated so why can't you know this in game too? Do you know it but rage anyway?

You just need to force yourself to think, in-game, about what you're doing. You're ruining your own enjoyment for no reason. You're also being really horrible to your teammates even if it's not out of malice. So for one, try and remember the consequences. Think about what your raging could achieve before you do it and remember the answer is nothing. And if nothing else, think about how pathetic you'll look to both your allies and your enemies.

If none of that works then there's only one thing to do: literally ignore everything you're thinking and feeling about the game and push through it. Force yourself to finish the game and contribute to the entire game no matter how defeated you feel. Force yourself not to rage in chat (shouldn't be too bad when chat restricted) and never stop trying. If you end up winning the game you may teach yourself something.

I'm not sure if what I say might help you because vocalizing my inner thought process out loud on the matter feels a little silly personally but as someone who's probably pretty fucking toxic myself (I really am, I used to just bottle it all up so I don't get banned because smurfing is really a pain), the only thing I've found that's helped is to focus less on winning and more on not losing while at the same time if I feel it's a loss waiting to happen, just forget about the outcome and continue playing with a focus on trying different things or working on my mechanics so I feel like I gain something.

Playing with someone you know also helps in my opinion, especially if it's someone who can keep your moods tethered or coax you into venting in some manner that won't impede your gameplay. And most of all, just flat out ignore everyone else because if it's YoloQ chances are they rarely will have anything important to contribute beyond pings, and if you are how you say you are then they can and will set you off so don't give them the opportunity. Mute them all right off the platform and it'll feel like a bot game eventually.

Last of all, and this is where people might disagree with me but don't ever bother helping or offering anyone tips in the middle of the game because alot of players will not like this and chances are they'll probably go on a toxic tilt themselves at the idea that someone else is telling them what to do even if you say it in a manner sweeter than sorbet. Besides, you'll probably never see them again so why bother?

Sorry about the wall of text but I do hope this helps, and I know it isn't easy changing behavioural impulses at the flip of a switch because it involves taking time to see things differently.

That was a good joke. "You know, I wanna win so I'll just do nothing and wait, that'll do it." Yea most likely.

You feel like every game is unwinnable and/or undeserved..... you are kidding me...you have no idea how much I HATE surrender votes, every game is winnable, the enemy could throw so hard, you never fucking know. Maybe someone will AFK, undeserved win? Maybe, still, a win is a win, and you are babbling about wanting to win as much as possible, so who cares? Sure, if you were on the side of the AFK you'd probably be mad as fuck, reasonable, shit happens, and the enemy will use that opportunity to its fullest to bring you down, and still, 4v5s are winnable, I've had some myself.

My advice? Suck it up, play the game.

afk in matches you feel you'll be annoyed in, or better yet dodge. I dodge every game with a lulu in it for peace of mind

Do what everyone else does and mute everyone and ignore everyone elses lanes, only focus on csing and outplaying your opponent your laned with. Nothing matters.

Once you enter teamfights you just kill whatevers open.

Stop taking the game so seriously. Try to have fun and doing your own thing while also trying to win. I sometimes do dumb shit and pick Janna mid (sometimes it works well) in my ranked games and I get shit for it but I don't really care. Mute people that bothers you and focus on the game and it's objectives.

Some games really do get hopeless against certain teams that know how to close out games when they have a good comp for it and they don't mess around but these kinds of games don't happen as often as you'd think.

Overall though to me you sound burned out from the game so you might want to take a break from it.

Your problems have 0 to do with the game...you need to take a good look at yourself and probably seek some professional help. GL, w/ whatever your going thru.
