Too much true damage

Stop with the excessive amounts of true damage output.

For example: Garen. If ulting the villain, he can output a ridiculous amount of true damage. On average, most ADC's and a good amount of MID laners have around 1800-2300 hp when full build. These are your classic ranged poke, glass cannons, and high burst damage dealers. They are also the ones who will have the highest probable chance of becoming the villain since they need kills to do well. Well lets look at Garen's ult. at rank 3, he deals base 525 magic damage with an additional 40% of the targets missing health. All of that is true damage if the target is the current villain.

Now lets say we have an ADC who is the villain. If their health falls around just past half half (roughly around 900-1100) then Garen can kill them instantly with his ult. Seems a little bit unfair since the ADC and MID are usually the ones who are able to become the biggest threats to him. Also since it does not scale with any items, he can go full tank and charge the low mobility champs swinging his sword around with his E also dealing true damage to the villain for 1% of total max health. If they are just out of range, flash or Q to close the gap. Caitlyn can E only once in the time Garen can Q twice. Also Garen has more base movement speed than all ADCs.

Now i do not wish this to be taken as a negative thread. I only want to point out the excessive amount of true damage being dealt in the current patch. Garen is not the only champ who deals a lot of true damage. He is just the one i thought of first. And yes there are counter plays to Garen. I was just stating an example situation that does happen sometimes.

How is that unfair? They're a glass-cannon and they ate an ultimate to the face.

I've OHKOed 50% HP glass-cannons as a support with no damage items. Several times. Done that on Leona, Blitz, and Taric. Done it with low damage supports with some AP like Sona and Soraka as well.

A pretty standard QWER rotation does ~1000 base damage (or 900-1100). Not just mage QWER - tanks, fighters, assassins, marksman, and supports with any level of burst often fall within that range as well.

Glass cannons are made out of glass and shatter like glass if they get reckless. Garen executing them from 50% HP is very fair.

Also since it does not scale with any items, he can go full tank and charge the low mobility champs swinging his sword around with his E also dealing true damage to the villain for 1% of total max health.

Garen is tanky DPS. He's supposed to be tanky and deal damage.

Tankyness isn't the only way champions can survive long enough to do their job in LoL. Range and mobility also allow champions to survive long enough to do their jobs - and you could make a pretty good case that range or especially mobility are better.

Unlike tankyness - most champions get range and mobility for free at level 1. So most ranged/mobile champions don't get a ton of damage for free and actually need to build glass-cannon to make the most of their range and/or mobility. Which has generally placed Tanky DPS champions in an awkward spot in LoL's past - they need to build tank to be tanky and DPS to do DPS, where other champions get all the range/mobility they need and can just build DPS to do DPS.

Garen doing damage while being tanky isn't a game-breaking interaction, it's necessary for him to even function.

Tanky DPS breaks the balance you know. They become a double threat. Not only are they harder to kill but they can kill relativly easy.

Harder to kill than these?

Kalista Leblanc Kayle Riven Ahri Fizz Annie

Being tanky isn't the only way you're hard to kill.

for most yes since many of these champions save fizz and maybe kayle can be blown up in a team fight where tanks don't go down instantly

you could just build health vs most of them

like, okay garen's ult is still kinda bullshit but he'll at least take a little bit longer to kill you. i don't like the garen rework in general, it didn't really do much

Garen outputs ridiculous amounts of magic damage if you're not the villain, and he only ults you when you're low so MR usually doesn't do anything. You make it seem like the true damage alone makes his ult strong, but then you complain about the part of his ult that hasn't changed in many seasons.

This was not a complain against GAREN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used him for an example. It was to talk about true damage and how all it seems to be getting a bit out of hand. No where did i say that this was only Garen or that Garen was broken. I simple said that his damage might be a bit too high for low - mid base health champions to handle when combined with his silence and movement speed if against a team without a lot of hard cc.

Seriously though read the whole post. Including the last paragraph.

I don't know why people are disagreeing with him, since any other day a thread whining about True damage and most namely %HP true damage just gets praise and circle jerk agrees all over the place o_o It is strong and it is over used and it is extremely broken on people like Garen. It makes trading with him utterly impossible if you have the passive on you, even if you were previously winning your lane...which I believe is one of the main reasons we want him nerfed, aside from his overtuned numbers in general.
