I really hate when the winning team says GG.

Hibeki··13 votes·5,858 views

Especially when they say it first.

Or when it's a slaughter.

Like yeah no shit it was a gg for you when the score is 42 to 20, but it wasnt fun at all to us.

Seriously, don't say GG unless the enemy team does so first. It's a good game when they are a good sport about it. But when you just rub a victory in their face you are just a sore winner.

GG is the same as shacking hands after a sporting event. It is a show of respect. They aren't saying it to rub it in your face... that is 'ggez'

Hibeki6 votes

Once again, you say gg when it was an actual good game.

If it's a sluaghter, or the losing team didn't think it was a good (or fair for that matter, this is LoL we are talking about here, no one in competitive sports IRL will throw intentionally, or repeatedly strike out in baseball, no, they learn from their mistakes etc. etc.)

Try holding out your hand in an attempted handshake when the score in baseball is 300 to 0, and expect them to take it the same way as they would any othergame.

Kikirino9 votes

I have shook hands with players after both strong wins and horrible losses when I played football in high school. If you refuse the handshake you are being disrespectful to the other players.

There are 3 kinds of players in League

The kind that say 'gg' and mean it as a sign of sportsmanship respect. The kind that say 'ggez' because they are pricks that want to rub the win in your face. The kind that say nothing and move on to the next match.

Don't be pissy with people for showing respect after a match. Want to bitch? Bitch about the people that say 'ez' because that is a blatant sign of disrespect.

Who would you rather lose to, the person that shakes your hand afterward or the person that points and laughs at your loss?

TTUPhoenix2 votes

If it was stomp, I'll often say 'wp' instead, whether because I feel like they wouldn't think it was a good game or I'm butthurt because I got whomped. As long as it was reasonably close, I'll say 'gg', or 'gg wp' if it was really close and hard fought.

Hasn't happened but I do remember this one occasion when someone asked the other team to report me for being a bot.

Even though I pinged a fair amount ingame.

What gives.

want to know how broken league is? TRUE STORY - i was on chat restriction for 14 days for no reason man, i swear on my parents life im not that kind of person. For 14 days i was on chat restriction for no reason, and riot was giving out free skins to people with "good conduct". Why would they give someone on a 14 day chat restriction a free Death Blossom Elise skin? Bro, im mind blown by Riot. They can't make up their mind... am i being muted for bad conduct... or am i being rewarded for good conduct?

forgive me if i sound stupid, but how can you be a sore loser if you won? the way i see it "GG EZ" is rubbing it in their face. "GG" is saying that it was a good game.

SayIng 'GG' is a sign of understanding, saying they put up a good fight and that you enjoyed playing against them.

Hibeki2 votes

You would do that in a competitive sport in IRL (Like television) because they wont hire people who are bad sports in this game.

Saying good game implies that it was a good game. Sure it might have been a good game for you but not so for them. Otherwise the phrase "GG EZ" wouldn't make sense. It means good game it was easy. If it meant you put up a good fight and it was easy, well, thats redundant.

If you mean it that way, then say something else. If they say GG first then feel free to say it. If not, just don't

This is a sport, and you it's real life when referring real life a sports you are referring to this one too, and in this sport no matter how you say it, when you say gg, you are showing respect.

You do realize that term has lost it's meaning, right? It's less seen as "good game" and moreso "get good." It's better to say "Well Played" because it shares what meaning "GG" used to have, and quite honestly has more value. It's superior to typing two of the same letter because it shows you actually cared about the match. You could say people will use "WP" instead, but it's honestly better than the alternative. I never say "GG" and I always do my best to congratulate my team and shake hands with the enemy after many great matches. Face it, "GG" is a BM term. It's been watered down, abused and dragged into the ground for so long that nobody really cares about how the match went, they'll just type "GG" in chat as a way of gloating. And besides, how can you argue with well played? Change is good. Start saying "Well Played" today, and spend an extra minute or two at the post-game screen to promote positivity. Whether you give your teammates a pat on the back or shake hands with the enemy, a game can only be truly good if you played well. So next time, show that you really care. There's a good reason why people get salty when they hear "GG" and I think we need to do more than put two letters in a chat box to be polite to others after a match.

Regress1 votes

I'm getting tired.. but that's besides the point... gg has never been used that way, never. Reason people use 'gg' at the end of every match instead of typing good game, is because not everyone are fast typers and we only have 5 seconds to type to the other team.

You do realize there's an entire post-game screen to chat with all the other players, right? Honestly, you're only further proving my point that people are too lazy to promote sportsmanship. I've made plenty of friends on this game and received many honor points by doing a lot more than typing two letters with no meaning. And are you seriously telling me that "GG" isn't a BM term? I've got four words for you: Super Monday Night Combat. If "GG" was a BM term it all started because of that awful community. Other than that, because the term "GG EZ" exists, which is a bastardization of the original term, that's more than enough proof to show that people use it as an abusive term. Admit it, you're just not honorable. I'm not saying you're toxic, but if you're really going to leave instead of shaking hands with others then it shows you haven't a strand of decency to share with the entire League of Legends community. It only takes a minute or two for you to be nice. Prove me wrong and show you're capable of promoting a positive environment in this community next time you finish a match. I guarantee you this game would be a better place if we all had more courtesy and consideration for each other.

Kikirino2 votes

Saying that people who say 'gg' are bad mannered and lazy isn't helping to promote sportsmanship either. I say 'gg' out of respect for my fellow players in the match. Whether you think it is good enough if none of my concern.

"You do realize there's an entire post-game screen to chat with all the other players, right? "

Sorry, but I leave that lobby the second I get in there because it is always people talking shit and pointing fingers for the loss and I know many people leave it immediately for the same reason.

You just said you don't care how other players feel, and that you immediately leave the lobby because people are "always" negative in the post-game screen. I know this is League of Legends we're talking about here, but maybe I've been blessed with some kind of "Gentleman's ELO" because I rarely see people acting toxic in the post-game screen. You ARE lazy, and you are indeed part of the problem. Why? You said it yourself, because you simply don't care. You think everything will be all fine and dandy in the world if you type those two letters in chat. Your selfish attitude and lack of decency to truly shake someone's hand shows that not enough players know how to be sportsmanlike. If you're not honorable, you're dishonorable. There's no middle ground. Meanwhile, people such as myself who actually KNOW how to promote a positive environment have carried games, helped toxic players reform and made many friends all by doing more than LITERALLY typing two letters that have absolutely no meaning. Defend yourselves all you want, but I know how this game's players work, and I can easily identify toxicity. Bring up the old dictionary all you like, if you seriously can't believe that words can lose their meaning then you've been living under a rock. Don't they teach you this stuff in school? New words are made for good reasons. And you can't deny that "GG" is misused when people still spout it even in situations such as a 4v5, where they were granted an easy victory because an enemy was disconnected.

The entire basis of your argument is simply "People will always be jerks and find ways to be jerks" when truthfully, none of you are even trying to promote a positive environment in the slightest. Almost as if you WANT this game to be toxic. All it takes is a brief moment of your time after every match to be nice. Am I so wrong for steering you in the right direction? Does it really hurt this much to know you've been causing more harm than good, all this time? Because honestly, having to teach people to get less salty at "GG" and learn to say "Well Played" is getting old. I do it every day. "GG" is a stigma, and a meme that breeds hatred. You shove it in your opponent's faces every time you win, and they learn to value it less when they see the only people saying it are the victors. The only people that think it's a good term are in denial. As for everyone else? They do it because they KNOW it ticks people off. Don't you remember the days when you could get punished in the tribunal for saying "GG?" Of course you don't. And that's where you belong, until you show me you're capable of fighting toxicity. Until then, good luck, and may they go easy on your case. They sure as heck won't on mine, that's for sure. But at least I'm trying. And I'll continue to promote honor, sportsmanship and positivity as long as I play this game. Because I KNOW a difference can be made, so long as one has the willpower to do more than just spout "GG" and let the place continue to burn. Anything can change. What's your excuse, buddy?

I said that I do not care if my show of respect is good enough for you. So long as I am being respectful to everyone in the matches I am doing my job to be a positive player in League.

Ignorance is fatal. Zed

And no, it's not a matter of whether your "show of respect" is "good enough" for me. It's the fact that people like you have the wrong idea about what honor and sportsmanship means. You don't know how to promote a positive environment, you LITERALLY just type two letters in chat and use that as a means of justification under some sort of illusion that you're doing this community any good. Meanwhile, people such as myself do more to promote positivity than posting two letters. Like I said, I've made lots of friends, carried many games and helped toxic players reform. All by doing more than saying "GG."

Honestly, you're nothing but a coward. You've failed to prove that you're capable of fighting against toxicity, because again, you simply don't care. And that's why this game has one of the most awful communities known to gaming. Because. Nobody. Cares. I apologize if being vocal about my ideals offends you. If you're really this blind to see my true intentions then there's no saving you. I'll put it this way: The majority of players are either toxic or neutral. If you're neutral, you're not helping because you still share an impact whether or not you choose to be positive, negative or neutral. Ergo, you are a part of the problem because you "do not care" as you've stated previously. If you're not with justice, you're against it. It's quite simple.

Kikirino1 votes

"If you're not with justice, you're against it. It's quite simple."

Life is not that black and white. I have played for almost 5 years. I have not once been banned/restricted/suspended/warned. I have 589 teamwork honors and 110 honorable opponent honors. I make a point to (attempt to) stop verbal team fights and all chat rage. Please continue telling me I am part of the problem because I fucking say 'gg' after a match.

I AM THE WALL1 votes

Prejudice: You stay within the same group of people that misuse the term and promote a negative environment. Should your intentions be true, you'll follow a different path and find something better to say. Like "Well Played" for instance. Who you are and what you've done won't mean much if you continue to be an enabler. Regardless of whether or not you can see the harm in your actions, choosing to say something nicer and even making an effort into fighting against toxicity shouldn't be a problem. Correct?

I'm telling you this for your own good. If you won't listen, enjoy being bombarded by salt every time you choose to type those two letters instead of having a friendly chat with other players. It's your grave, not mine. I'm just a messenger. There is a perfectly legitimate reason as to why the creator of this thread and many others see "GG" as a means of disrespect. If you want to prove you're not a part of the problem, go ahead. If not, enjoy the prejudice you've earned. You're either going to enable hatred or disable it, and you have no choice in the matter. We're all controlled by our memes. If you don't change, soon enough you'll be consumed by toxicity. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll be the next big hit on summonerscode. This discussion is over, I hope you've learned something. Have fun.

Kikirino1 votes

"There is a perfectly legitimate reason as to why the creator of this thread and many others see "GG" as a means of disrespect."

Many people think gg is disrespectful? Is that why this thread has -14 right and almost no support? Keep trying to be a hero for a nonexistent group of people. I will continue to say gg and it will be received by most of the players as a sign of respect as it is intended.

I AM THE WALL1 votes

Nah, you'll just be seen as a jerk. Honestly, I know many people who don't think "GG" has value anymore, and I've had a lot of encounters with people who don't approve of the term. Which is why I chose to stop using it, and start doing more to show honor and sportsmanship. I'm not defending a group of "nonexistent" people, I'm telling you that you're using an offensive term. By your logic, racism isn't a real issue because you were never offended. If it's seen as offensive, even by one person, it's an offensive term. Because over time, more people will see why it's offensive, and more people will be hurt by the oppression. You have to be fair to others. And besides, there are a LOT of people who know it's a BM term. The fact that you're trying this hard to justify that ancient, watered down term only proves you support the side of players that misuse and abuse the term. I mean really, that term is so old and worthless you may as well start calling people "noobs" too. Which is an even worse thing that people STILL do in this game. At any rate, did you just imply that I'm not a person because you think people that don't approve of "GG" are nonexistent? You sir, are a racist.

But by all means, keep saying it. You'll breed nothing but hatred and probably wind up in the Tribunal. Have fun with your racist bigotry.

Kikirino1 votes

I don't even know what to say to you anymore. Either you are a brilliant troll or fucking stupid.

You went from 'say gg makes you a bad person' to 'saying gg makes you a racist bigot'. "If it's seen as offensive, even by one person, it's an offensive term." Everything is offensive to someone. Better be safe and just be mutes for the rest of our lives. Well... fuck... can't do that because it might be offensive to one mute. We wouldn't want one out of the 7 billion people on this Earth to get hurt by what we said even if it completely innocent.

Racism is offensive because the entire purpose of it is to offend and oppress. SAYING GOOD GAME IS A SHOW OF RESPECT BETWEEN PLAYERS. Just because some people use it to be pricks does not mean we all do.

Grow up. The people offended by people saying gg as a sign of respect are disrespectful because they are the same people that would refuse a handshake after a sporting event. Bottom line. We are not bad people. We are not racist and we definitely won't end up in the Tribunal. How do I know? Again, 5 years of play and not once be punished or warned of anything.

Want to know what really breeds hate? Calling me a racist bigot because I say gg. If you want to continue trying, and failing, to look like a great person go ahead. I am done wasting my time with you.

Whatever term you pick can be misused just like gg is sometimes misused today.

In particular, you are advocating for "well played". As it happens, Hearthstone has a really restricted chat set where you can only say 6 predefined things. One of them is "well played", and it is constantly used in a sarcastic and disrespectful way.

No. I'm gonna tell you "GG" whether I went 0/12/1 or 3/0/11 and I'm going to write it as soon as the nexus died. Every game I'm learnign more and more about how to play LoL and it was the enemy team who taught me something new. I feel like every game is equally worth my time, and everyone I play with/against has made LoL a game I want to play again and again. I'm gonna tell you it was a good game because if it wasn't why would I bother playing another match?

SmokingPuffin2 votes

In the gaming culture I've grown up with, you say "gl hf" at the start and "gg" at the end. Both are gestures of respect to the opponent, thanking them for playing the game with you. Even if someone pulls off some awful cheese tactic, or you lost because of a bug/lag/dc/luck, you still say gg when the game ends.

I think saying gg before a team has surrendered or the nexus is going down is generally BM. The behind player who says gg is checking out of the game mentally while his team is still playing on. The ahead player is declaring the game over before it really is. Neither case is respectful to the other players in the game.

I just got out of a brutal match. My team went 51-34, and it wasn't because the enemy team was bad at all.

We had drawn out fights over dragon more than once, resulting in kills for them, thwarted dragons and barons for us, and quite a few deaths all around. That said, they took only two turrets the entire game.

At the end of the game, when I said GG, I meant it as in: "You guys made us work for that, and it was a great fight."

I'm sure some people in the comments have already said this, but GG EZ is when you turn into a douchebag. Saying GG means that the game was good, that it was a legitimate fight. There's nothing wrong with that, because it's a sign of respect.

Solution: Mute everyone. Don't really see a reason for it though. When I win a game (yes, it sometimes happens), I type GG as if I am saying "game over". I don't think about it. I just say it to officially declare the game has ended, and that it was an even match. If something happened I might add a "report Trynda srry", but the gg is staying. I am part of that elite group that still honors his opponents if they deserve it. If I get pentakilled by someone in a moderately even match, assuming it isn't a Katarina (sorry, met too many Kata smurfs at low levels, toxic on my team, toxic on the enemy team, I just despise her by now :L ), and assuming he doesn't go EZ OLOLOL on us, I give him a Honorable Opponent.

So yes, gg rarely means a taunt or even an insult, its more a sign of "its over, lets carry on". If there is a time I hate someone for saying GG solely, is when my teamates become blindly pessimistic: "gg, they got a tower" "gg our mid is Viktor" "gg you didn't ban Urgot" "gg they have Morgana" "gg they got their first kill at 40 minutes" "gg Nasus has 12 stax" "gg two of our enemies have a clan name" "gg they have more skins" "gg their Riven said she is smurfing" "gg Zed didn't rush Zhonya's" "gg the ward has expired" other than that, is not disrespect, its automatic and probably without any ill thoughts towards you bro :)

If it were a regular occurrence that a losing player in a baseball match went up to the other team in the 5th inning right after another player on their team struck out for the 2nd time and offered handshakes and "good game"s because they'd given up on the game, it would stop being viewed as such a sportsmanlike thing to do at the end of the game.
