What would the point in picking an assassin be?
Just feels like bruisers top lane can do the same thing essentially, but better and survive.

There is none, Riot doesn't like assassins anymore because they think they are unhealthy for the game. Why do you think so few remain after the assassin update?
I cant understand that honestly, Riot says assassins are unhealthy because there is no counterplay to them for a 1 item adc thats farming by himself, which makes adc players feel bad. So they give way too much counterplay to many assassins for them to work without building tanky...
Meanwhile legit any other class shits on 1-2 item adcs just as hard. What is the counterplay to Irelia catching an adc alone? Viktor? Ahri? Renekton? Fking Nautilus? Like, thats how the game works Ghostcrawler xd
Pretty much but you know "omg stealth 1 shot so op"

Yeah before rework that was a thing..
As an assassin your job is to go in the 2nd line, delete a key player with your burst, then hopefully get out, usually with the smart help of your team or as suprise ganks. You aren't supposed to go in, missing your dash, but still killing the adc, tanking a tower while killing the support too, then tank the toplaner who tp-d to help while you are collecting cs and fixing your hairdo, then easily walk away. And you definietly aren't supposed to 1v5 a whole team with some silly lifesteal item or to simply facetank an adc. You are an "assassin" - it's even in the name.

But hey, if the adc dives you, misses their ult and all their abilities, and just escapes like nothing happened WHILE also deleting you with their 2k+ dps, that's ok.
How can an adc dive you? What situation do you mean exactly?
Abilities don't really matter as most of them are utility stuff and simply ad/as buffs anyways. He is all about the unmatched ranged basic attack damage - that's why he is called an "attack damage carry" after all... But otherwise he is a glass cannon, no health, no escapes or real mobility, if nobody peels or tanks for him, he is an easy target.
Usually a whole team has to defend and "hide" the adc in teamfights, so if he was able to just walk in the middle of your team, standing and killing people there without assistance and nobody bursted him down in a second, then the problem was on you team's side.
But as with most assassins you can dash right on the adc from the backline or some brush nearby, burst down his health and even dash back to safety, while the adc is only dangerous if you stand in front of him, at his range, he isnt occupied or cc-d and you just facetank his base attacks, yes I think "that's ok".
And I think it's a basic problem, and that's why some people treat whole roles as OP, that they don't understand the differences between them and try to beat them in their own turf.

The problem is when Assassins start shitting on skirmishers. Irelia, Viktor, Ahri, Renekton, fking Nautilus? These are people a skirmisher can fight. Most assassins will just delete them, besides the ones with hard defenses (Wind Wall against Zed/Talon/Fizz if he reacts fast enough, Riposte, things like Riven's shield will just be bursted through).
Most skirmishers can beat assassins. The only one's who probably can't are
and
if the assassin is ahead, but even those guys are in desperate need of a rework.

Yasuo has a very hard time, Riven has a tough time against certain assassins.

Both Yi and Jax have an easy tome beating assassins, especially if they build damage. A gunblade triforce jax with perhaps a guinsoo's will survive any burst with his E+ult. And master yi himself is an assassin. He can Q to dodge burst then stick his sword up their ass.

THEY WERE NEVER SHITTING ON THEM. Assassins always were disadvantaged vs them. Did you every play assassins? The only way I could do crap vs skirmishes was when I saw them waste all their spells on a wave of minions and I went in on them.

... I don't think Jax is going to E the minion wave, I don't think Yas will Wind Wall the minion wave, Fiora won't Riposte the minion wave and RIven will probably E the minion wave and use her other abilities too.
Oh, and you realize... an assassin is supposed to wait out cooldowns before going in? Especially in a teamfight?
If you get the jump on a Jax or Yasuo, chances are they're gonna die. Same for Fiora unless she gets a good Riposte, same for Riven unless she gets a good combo.

All of the champions you mentioned will rape your face if you so much as jump them. Except maybe yasuo, who could still do it post 2-3 items anyway. Assassins back then couldn't assassinte those champs, and still can't.
Divers, while being much tankier, don't have an escape. Assassins excel in mobility, roaming, and have overall better burst damage.
This. Fighters and assassins are meant to make very different contributions, as divers are meant to enter the back line and be a constant DPS threat from there, whereas assassins are supposed to go in, kill a squishy and get out, and the only reason there's overlap between the two is because several divers have too much burst, and several assassins have been accidentally pushed towards tankier builds.
For the movement and ability to kill a high priority target. They're also alot better at skirmishing/roaming than other champs. Assassins can play mid into mages better than divers
Assassins have much better map mobility, infiltration, and burst damage.
A Diver like Rek'Sai, Aatrox, Xin Zhao, or Irelia has to dive through the enemy frontline, becoming at risk of being CC'd and picked off by enemy tanks and supports. An Assassin has tools to run around the backline and flank from an angle, letting them get directly at the squishy targets without opening up the risk of the frontline diving on them.
Or even tanks.

Because this guy is a better assassin then most real assassins.
Easy question: DAMAGE! what else.
Assassins can be good if you want to end the game fast and/or if the enemy team is squishy, but that's about it
Better roams and map impact are common with assasins
The whole getting out part tends to be a bit easier for them.
