evaluate this team comp??

So today I had one of the more interesting Games of league I've played, with one of the most unusual endings.

At 21min we were down 20 kills to 10. Their top laner and jungler (jax and udyr) were both fairly fed, their mid (orianna), adc (vayne) and support (braum) were all doing at least as well as anyone on our team. Every one of our lanes was behind in cs.

Then we won a teamfight 5-0 near Dragon and took Baron and the Tier 2 mid turret off of it. Then we won a teamfight 5-0 and took their mid inhibitor turret and half of the inhibitor before they engaged on us. We walked away with little problem disengaging, then after Baron buff healed us a little turned around and walked in for another 5-0 teamfight, took the inhibitor, tanked the nexus turrets without minions and took the nexus. We won at 29 min, just 8 minutes after being so far behind.

So, how did this all happen? How did we win a 5-0 teamfight from 10 kills and about 6k team gold behind? Then 8 minutes later win the game?

Our team: Top: maokai jungle: master yi mid: sion Adc: miss fortune Support (me): alistar

Literally this is how the teamfights went: I engage w-q in to their team, miss fortune starts her ult while sion follows with his cc (e I think? ). Then maokai twists in and roots them. All the while MF is channeling her ult and yi is just disappearing in there with swords blazing. They were CCd the whole teamfight. When we needed to disengage, sion maokai and myself peeled for eachother and tanked everything they could throw at us whole barely losing any health.

When our damage (mainly MF ult) was ready, we re-engaged and our front line was basically unkillable and locked them down for so long.

So what do you think of the teamcomp? Did we randomly stumble on to something amazing? Were we just lucky that orianna didn't tear sion to shreds in the mid Lane (I honestly thought he was crazy sion mid)? Did they just not know how to teamfight? Or more accurately were they too unskilled to realize that with udyr and jax they should definitely have been split pushing everything? (To be honest we sort of forced the teamfights though). I think MF fit perfectly with the cc Thanks to her aoe burst, but is there a better alternative for master yi?

Just thought I'd share. It was a unique thrill destroying their entire base without minion aid, just 3 tanks laughing at the turret damage.

They were CCd the whole teamfight.

MasterYi

A uncc'd yi auto-wins the teamfight.

I'd reccomend not ever having a sion go mid. Instead, someone like ori/ viktor would work amazingly with an aoe cc.

Also, add an amumu jungle, and the maokai synergy is godlike.

So are you saying yi fit really well with our comp because us keeping them cc'd prevented them from cc'ing yi?

More that you got lucky. Against a jax, udyr, ori, vayne, and braum, yi should NEVER have lived to get a Q off.

Okay, fair enough. I'm not even 30 so I'm sure I'm not paying with amazing players; it just seemed that no one on their team got a chance to land cc because they were constantly knocked up or something while we were just destroying them. That said, there must have been chances to cc yi that they just missed.

so if maokai and ali ult at the same time, does ali get 90% damage reduction?

I felt like it at least... I was support so I didn't even get to build much defense (sightstone, mobility boots, talisman, and was working on locket) and yet during fights I'd be focused briefly when I engaged and barely saw my health move (and also barely took damage the one time we disengaged).

so if maokai and ali ult at the same time, does ali get 90% damage reduction?

From how dodge used to stack and how armor pen and tenacity stack now, there's a solid 99% chance Ali would get 76% damage reduction (70% then 20% on the remaining 30% damage).

That said, 76% is still a ton of DR. That's the equivalent of over 300 armor and magic resistance (300 is 75%), that can't be shredded with armor/resist penetration, and happens prior to armor and magic resistance actually mitigating stuff.

To get 90% DR with both ultimates, you'd only need 140 armor and magic resistance (barring hostile penetrations), which is easily achievable within a 2~3 major item tank core.

Jax and Udyr aren't very good in teamfights, much better off split pushing so that's what they did wrong. Also how in the world yi didn't get cc'd is suprising to me. Pretty much all of the enemy comp had a way of screwing yi over. I'd say you got extremely lucky yi wasn't focused, if he was, there goes a ton of your damage. But hey, well played.

You guys had a much much better teamfight with that comp. Sion could ult in, maokai could root and then sion would hit with ult, Alistar could W+Q then ult because you were deceptivly tanky, sion would have charged a full Q during that time and MF would ult while Yi Qd so if they ever got caught at all, by almost any person other then yi(even MF can catch somebody with a slow to set up the CC lock) they would lose that fight or team fight.

Your comp isn't too new or unheard of. Udyr or jax should have been split pushing AND by the sound of it, they had no idea how to siege the turret(which they had the comp for it) so that helps a lot. Other then that, that is what your team comp can do, do average to below average to even just sucking but then force team fights later in the game and win that way. I have played on those teams many times, I even had one recently where I fed riven hardcore with maokai and our lanes either broke even or lost the lane slightly but we forced team fights to the point where riven couldn't just split push or else they would lose inhibs+ nexus turrets so they had to find a way to win a team fight which was a lost cause.

Hope this helps you understand a little bit of why it happened.

I feel like the poll options were limited x) It's not that the team comp is particularly amazing - that is to say, it's really good, lots of AOE wombo combo - it's that you guys could flow your spells properly to make sure the combo worked. I mean, for example, let's say orianna placed her ball on jax, who promptly jumped on MF before she can even touch her ult... but you're Alistar you can punt him away... but Braum could knockup the team ensuring the combo works... etc. You feel me? It's all down to who counterplayed who in this context.

All in all though you guys had the stronger teamfight comp, but it won't always work :D

u had 3 tanks guarding miss fortune while yi came for the clean up. and also they had really low range and cc thus they couldnt get through your tanks.

So today I had one of the more interesting Games of league I've played, with one of the most unusual endings.

What you had was essentially a team fight composition.

Played into a team of duelists.

AoE team-comps were the meta for pretty much all of seasons 1 and 2, as you pretty much win a team fight by showing up and participating. Takes a little more skill and finese to pull of other compositions, like the picks/early-aggression/assassination/split-push styles we see in competative play now.

Also - the team-fight prowess of a lot of champions is generally inversely balanced with their dueling potential. Udyr, Jax, and Vayne are really imposing in 1v1 situations - but all 3 are not a champion you really want in ARAM. The inverse is true of champions like Ali, Miss Fortune, and Maokai - not great in a 1v1 once mid-game rolls around, but really devistating in a team fight.
