So is Jarvan FOREVER going to be able to dash while rooted?

J4's EQ causes him to dash, but neither his E or Q is a dash ability. The same thing applies to other abilities like Camille E. There is nothing wrong with it. It's like, even if you broke your legs, you can still drag yourself over a distance by pulling on a rope.

You should be able to dash while rooted, but only if you leave your boots and pants behind.

His Q is by all means a dash ability. The fact that it needs to satisfy another condition to actually move doesn't matter - i.e. Naut's hook or Camille E work exactly the same way, and can't be cast while rooted. The only difference is the thing the skillshot needs to hit - a wall, a champion or a flag.

If Riot for some reason thinks that J4 deserves to/should/needs to cast his Q while rooted, even if that's inconsistent with the rest of the game, the dash should not happen if he cast Q while rooted.

You know his ability tooltip literally mentions that he can still flag and drag while immobilised,

The Deckowner1 votes

You are very wrong, Camille's E can be casted while rooted, what couldn't be casted is the second cast which is a dash, it's not a special mechanic on J4.

Camille I love being able to pull myself to a nearby wall while being rooted. [sg-miss-fortune]

Infuriating for these pesky Lux players, missing their entire combo when they thought their snare secured it to hit.

koshkyra2 votes

me: hits lux q on camille me: ER

camille: E on wall, flashes mastery 7, dives at me

me: Qs again

camille: ignores q with ult

Agreed, Camille's kit is beautiful. [sg-ahri-2]

I'm pretty sure Camille can't actually cast E while rooted (even if it will still pull her if root happens after she casted it).

Chembaron Yamada1 votes

If they didn't change that, she should be able to. I did this several times back then after her release. Was giving me a blast to trick some people snaring me. I would have to test it out if it still works, though.

Chembaron Yamada1 votes

Was able to test it today: Even if you are already rooted, you are able to cast E and pull yourself to a wall.

The only restriction is that you can't use the second part of your E (Walldive) while you are rooted. But you can still use your E to reposition yourself.

Yes. Being rooted just prevent you from moving and using your mobility skill.

J4's Q isn't a mobility skill on its own.

Zero Skill Tank3 votes

Still there is no reason for him being able to pull himself if he cast it while rooted.

Salron5 votes

Don't think Riot is capable of coding that or they probably would've done so

Either way this interaction is a nonissue

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

I wouldn't say it's a non-issue. And I think the issue is less to do with them not being able to code it, and more being too scared to do it, because they could fuck a lot of things.

Salron3 votes

It's been in the game since his release and isn't gamebreaking People can play around it and J4 probably needs a nerf(he already has a minor one on PBE) and this isn't something that would change his place in the meta

Yes, but it's inconsistent that way.

PSA: Once a dash starts, it can’t be completely stopped unless interrupted by a Displacement (Knock up, knockback, knock aside, pull). If you hit any other type of CC on a champion that’s dashing, it will wait for the dash to finish and then apply the remaining CC timer once they arrive.

The only exceptions to this rule is Yasuo and I think Kalista. Their dashes are interrupted by all CC.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

And any dash interrupted by something like Poppy's W, which is designed to stop dashes.

Yes. It actually applies a displacement to do so (a small knockback if I remember correctly), so it still falls under the displacement category.

Also, someone on the thread mentioned Jinx’s chompers. I honestly forgot they were recently fixed to stop dashes too.

TheGoomyGamer2 votes

It's a knock down, used in veigar's E, poppy W, Camille R and now Jinx chompers. It's a bit like an instantaneous displacement, in that or stops dashes but doesn't inhibit actions.

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

The thing is, Jarvan can BEGIN his dash while already rooted.

CleverCactus2 votes

Think of it like him being hooked to his flag. It works the same way as Nautilus or Camille hook.

Brain Errör 4044 votes

Yes. Because he is the greatest specimen of a man. What you REALLY need to be asking is why that man gets to be so god damn savage and press auto-R to end your life.

Welcome to the wonderful world of queued abilities. So long as a movement ability starts before the CC lands the movement ability will try to go off. Some abilities will be interrupted as we would expect, but others like Jarvan's Q when it hits his flag and Ezreal's jump don't care about how things appear to work.

Zero Skill Tank3 votes

J4's Q is different. He can cast it while already rooted, and it still moves him.

redniwediS2 votes

I could have sworn it wouldn't cast while he was rooted. Oh well, it's still annoying.

2Charmnot2Charm3 votes

Because the Q itself is not a movement spell.

Vekkna1 votes

It's absolute bullshit, tbh, on par with WW's snowflake displacement immunity, untargetable granting invulnerability to in-flight lock-on projectiles, and black shield's interaction with Illaoi's E and Zoe's E.

Hexs Fortune1 votes

The real question is, can he still dash through Jinx E after they specifically made changes to prevent champs from doing so.

The Deckowner3 votes

He can't.

ShuyinTheX1 votes

Trist can still hop while supressed, Jarvan is the least of our problems.

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

By no means can Tris use Rocket Jump while rooted (or suppressed). Getting CC'd after Rocket Jump was used won't cancel her dash, which might look weird but is perfectly consistent with all abilities in the game.

Fedoran1 votes

Cant hold him back!

LunarEdge71 votes

I've seen that before but often times I'm not even mad. Doesn't it take timing to do it? You can't just EQ during being rooted, right? It looks amazing though when they get away like that..

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

It doesn't take any skill or timing, you can do this while already rooted.

I'd be fine with it if it at least applied consistently with other similar abilities cast as a skillshot with a conditional dash afterward. (Leona Leona Leona Leona Leona Leona )
