I actually really like it! I'll miss my shred and slay Taric Top, but, it fits his new lore, looks like it's close enough to his original to make him feel familiar to the old guard like me, and I can see him being a nightmare in team fights. Bravo to the Rioter who reworked him! My only complaint is it looks like his ult needs to be a little quicker, or a little longer, as it doesn't look like it'd be very usable in actual game-play.

Though, does it feel to anyone else that Riot is trying to force champs to be one roll and one roll only recently? Or is that just me being salty from my lack of shred?

I think the delay on his ult is appropriate, especially since it sounds like it works with his W (basically gives him two AoE Kayle ults, pretty outrageous).

It does seem like they're really focusing Taric around bot lane; granted he was predominately a bot-laner before. He seems like he'll be playable in other roles (jungle might make sense given his W synergy in ganks. Top still looks like it would work, especially given his passive; it's difficult to get melee autos off in bot lane especially when you have no gap closers).

In general it just seems like a straightforward upgrade of most of his previous abilities, so I'd imagine that anywhere he could play before he will be able to play now.

One of the big design pushes in recent months has been to reduce the number of generalists that League has. Generalists are champions like Brand or Skarner, who have few distinct weaknesses -- but no distinct strengths, either. This has had the effect that some champions who were previously viable in many roles (hence generalist) viable in fewer of them, but with the proliferation of marksmen in top and jungle, the adoption of traditionally midlane mages like Brand and Vel'Koz in the support role, and the rising power of flex picks like Corki and Lissandra in the highest level of play, I think it's not necessarily indicative of a larger trend.

Honestly, he'll probably be fine. My concern was the stun. That's a looooong wind up for a skillshot. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's got a bit more range, but I'd have rather sacrificed a little stun time than have the wind up. I'm probably going to reflexively try to point and click his stuns for awhile XD

On the topic of Shred and Slay, I always considered Taric's R to be the other facet of protection: destroying the threat. I think I'll miss the team wide damage buff.

Mastery 5 Taric player: I love the new abilities, but I hate that they just took away the gem knight identity he had and made him just another star/celestial champion.

With the passive I think he could be a pretty good top lane bruiser
