So, does anyone else think Riot is trying to run a scam right now?

So, I just recently discovered that Riot, 6 months ago, cracked down even harder with their auto-ban-bot. Instead of returning Tribunal to us, like they promised to work on...two years ago. I've also recently discovered that Riot doesn't IP ban, the bare minimum of banning. They just account ban, and let you come back. Does anyone else think that Riot is just trying to squeeze more money out of us? Is the auto-ban-bot just the result of Riot's communist Chinese overlords? Why don't they work on Tribunal? Discuss.

Also, to cut off the inevitable: You're just mad you got banned. I actually don't have any negative strikes on my account. At all. This is just a point of discussion of the seedy ass behavior Riot is doing. I am, however, mad they're ruining one of my favorite fighting games.

Edit: So, yeah, I admit IP ban isn't the way to go, it was just the top of my head example. There are ways to do this that aren't so tilted towards pouring more money into Riot's pockets at our expense was the point I was trying to get across.

Ever thought about taking off the tin foil?

i'm pretty sure riot doesn't ban people with the expectation for them to start a new account and then re-buy all the skins their banned account had. and IP banning would result in huge issues. if multiple people use the same internet they would be banning several people who did nothing to get banned. what if someone uses campus internet to call someone a "filthy @#$%^$gobbling #$%^$##@giraffe" via league? should every single league player who goes to their school be banned? what if your roommate is an assface? what if you play league at starbucks? account banning is an infinitely better idea than accidentally banning hundreds of players by using a ban-missile when a ban-bullet would suffice.

  1. The automatic ban system has been public knowledge for quite some time.

  2. The tribunal was next on the things for Lyte's team to work on after the new champ select.

  3. The tribunal wasn't a punishment system, it was an appeal system.

  4. Banning IP wouldn't do anything. Here are a few problems with banning IP: VPN, dorm rooms, families who share computers.

  5. If Riot really wanted to squeeze money out of us, they would have a monthly subscription (like WoW) and they wouldn't have introduced the Hextech crafting system.

  6. With millions of games being played each day, it would be impossible to go through by hand. Even when the tribunal was active, it had a very low participation rate and had a massive backlog.

{quoted} Is the auto-ban-bot just the result of Riot's communist Chinese overlords?

Well then. Not offensive or anything.

It's 2016 and there are still people who think IP bans do anything.

I've never put 1 cent into my account, how is it again they're squeezing money out of me?

They don't IP ban because they wan't to give people a second chance (or, like, 5th in this case). People do eventually learn.

They did the bot ban system because their are just too many reports coming in.

Riot doesn't need the money anyway. Popularity would be their main goal, which is why they are supporting Esports so much.

Uh, if they wanted money, they wouldn't ban anyone, because then those toxic players would keep spending money. They ban those toxic players because their toxicity is doing more damage to everyone around them than the few bucks they bring in.

The only scam I remember that they successfully pulled off was the pool party mundo scam.

Basically they promised that if everyone on the na server spent a total amount of money combined then everyone would get pool party MunDo for free.

Little did we know that riot purposly made the spending goal impossible to reach in the time frame. Effectively scamming. It's playerbase out of a crap ton of money.

Scam? Well what's the definition of a scam? Then how does that apply to this or does it? If your blind to the visual surrounding then you played yourself. Add some sunlight to the question helps you see better.

There is no question that Riot is in this to make money (that is what companies do), BUT! I do not agree with what Riot is doing with the Hextech system and I refuse to participate in it. Well, the reality is, I stopped supporting riot financially when they joined forces with Tencent and this just another reason to take my money elsewhere. However, as long LoL is free to play.. I will continue to play it. For free.

Bans are not automated.

In order for a toxic player to be banned, their account must be manually reviewed by a player support specialist.
