How to counter mid veigar as a support?

How do I help my teammates not get one shot by him? He manages to one shot even through a max rank 5 charge taric heal, an overheal shield, and a taric W shield.

heals / Shields / items such as item 3222 / stun and tag team the Veigar to kill him before he can kill your ADC / play a champion like Zilean and use ur ult to save ur ADC.

item 3190 item 3109 item 3193 item 3107 are the best options for Taric, I think, for countering burst.

Exhausting the enemy helps a lot.

The defensive Keystone from Resolve is much better than Aery, but it requires you to stick to the ADC.

I would suggest my ADC to get a Hexdrinker tho.

If you want Counterpicks, Braum is always a good defensive option, Morgana messes him up, Zilean can be annoying. Hyperaggressive guys make his life hell, especially if you roam: Thresh, Blitz, Leona, Spellbook Annie. By killing him, you delay his AP farming and delay his damage.

Bit late to the party, but veigar's biggest weakness is that he lacks safety or cc breakers, so a high cc champ that can get to him quickly is good, but it also matters with positioning (I personally like Alistar for Veigar mid for reasons I'll discuss later).

Tanks are very effective at zoning veigar, as well as getting him to use his cage away from the rest of your team (if you walk from the flank to cc him, he will typically panic cage you, removing his cc against your team). Alistar does well vs Veigar because he can quickly close the gap with his W, and has a lot of CC from his Q and E (and, if Veigar lands his cage, Alistar R can break the stun).

Alternatively, moderate CC damage supports like Morgana Velkoz Zilean Zyra can also be effective at killing veigar before he can get to the team, but also run the risk of getting one-shot themselves
