Probably Unpopular Opinion of a Support Main
It's a little selfish, but as a support main I like being in the minority. Maining a role that others don't want to play makes me feel a bit special and needed. It seems a lot of the player base don't find support as fun of as the others since you make yourself "less powerful" for the sake of the team and not being the one who directly carries (in terms of kills and damage dealt), but I don't mind it and enjoy embracing it. Other than playing a role I enjoy so much, I'm glad to be the guy who steps up and provides a needed service.
I hear there are some planned changes in the hope of making support more appealing by providing buffs to items, champs, and style of gameplay used by supports. The selfish side of me is not excited about all of these planned changes at the moment. As a support main climbing the ranked ladder, I think there is a decent chance in the current system of laning against non-support mains which works well in my favor. Plus, I personally enjoyed being able to make the best out of limited resources (gold and lvl disadvantage). Pulling off good plays and tactics with limited resources feels pretty rewarding, and I've heard plenty of times from other players that they couldn't handle playing support. Again, it feels good to be proficient at a role that few want to play but is needed. It's like we support mains are valued because of our rarity/ability to turn tides of games. But don't get me wrong, I'm not currently against changes. If the changes are successful in making the game more fun overall and fixing queing problems for the rest of the player base, it'll be good for the community, and as a fellow member, I'll be glad for a better community.
If any fellow support mains read this, what do you think? Anyone else willing to turn support mains if the role is buffed?
