Guide on How To Not Be An Asshole in League

  1. Don't Flame- it doesn't matter if the player is 0-15. You flaming them isn't going to do anything but make the game worse. Think for a moment, "What good could telling someone he/she is bad can possibly do?" You're just going to be wasting time typing when you could be farming/focusing on the game, and you're just going to make the other player get tilted even more, and he/she is probably gonna waste time and focus replying to you. Calling people names and acting like a kid isn't going to accomplish anything.

If someone is doing poorly, perhaps provide advice in a friendly way while giving a little hope. It could help people get over having messed up (what's done is done) and focus from now on. Ex. "Trying play safe for the rest of laning phase Yas. We'll definitely get them mid game." or "Just hold out for a bit, our lanes are doing fine, so as long as their top doesn't get more fed, we can take care of it later."

  1. Toxic Teammates? MUTE THEM. Reading the crap they're typing/arguing with them is just going to put you in a foul mood and distract you from the game. Again, NOTHING GOOD will come out of you returning verbal insults. You'll probably just get tilted, and you'll be providing fuel to the fire.

  2. Don't be negative- telling someone they're bad or spam pinging question marks when someone dies is annoying. You want to win games? Well one of the tricks to winning games is to try and not make yourself and your team tilted. If everyone is angry and frustrated, you won't have a good outcome. Spamming pings isn't going to do shit. Perhaps just say, "We can win this if we stop getting caught out/put out more wards/group." Offer ideas on how to bring your team up rather than bringing your teammates down.

If you're calm and everyone else is flaming, possibly try to be the peace maker. "What's done is done. This game is still winnable if we forget what happened before and work together."

  1. Going ranked- please play to win. If you can play something well that's not meta, go for it, but don't do stuff you're not comfortable with in ranked. It's not nice for your teammates who are trying to earn LP. In other words, first be confident that you can carry your own weight (and usually, you're going to need to be able to carry more in order to climb). Practice champs/strats/builds in norms before taking it to rank.

Plus, be able to play at least 2 roles. All the time in champ select, people ask another person to trade which is fine, but remember that the other person is NOT OBLIGATED to trade you even if the role is your hardcore main. Be able to at least be able to pull your own weight in your secondary role.

  1. Remember that everyone has had bad games- we've all fed before. We've all had games where we did not play as near as good as we could have. It happens.

If you're a decent human being, you shouldn't be a flamer or name caller in the first place, but I mentioned the benefits and consequences of behavior as a lot of people will only act nice to obtain some benefit rather than doing so just because it's part of their character.

I'm bumping this since it seems there has been an increase in toxicity probably because school is out for the kiddies :c

I feel like a lot of higher elo players (maybe mid gold and higher) understand this list. It is almost like an unspoken code.

I have encounter lower levels of toxicity since moving out of lower gold.

Plat player are good at recognizing and point out others mistakes, how they go about doing this is sometimes polite and sometimes not so much.

Silver and Bronze players will point out mistakes, but will not be able to RECOGNIZE what actually transpired or what went wrong. They will know something bad happened, but they don't understand WHY or HOW it manifested into that specific bad outcome.

They use several catch-all phrases that are generally applicable to any situation. Often, these phrases can lead to heated exchanges. The most common I hear are:

"You got caught out" "Why are you over there?" "Jungler doesn't gank" "Team is bad" "Stop feeding" - I hate this one because most players in low elo do not have the prowess at the game to STOP feeding when behind. Everyone feeds sometimes, gold and plat players understand how to stop dying. But then they give up towers and farm. Lower Elo players often refuse to give up farm when behind and they almost NEVER give up towers.

One of my favorites is "We have no vision" especially when I am support. We often have vision from me, but no one else will be warding and a player will point out our "lack of vision" is why we are losing the game. If you see the enemy coming from the jungle and you choose to stay under tower, that means you are willing to die for that extra bit of farm.

When I play on my silver smurf the exchanges among players is pretty ridiculous sometimes.

Thank god for reasonable people.

And to all those people (they haven't showed up yet, but I doubt they'll stay away forever) who say "lolz welcome to the real world kid", realize that in the real world, people are actually pretty respectful to each other, especially to each others faces. If you're being a dick to someone or a group as a whole, you're going to be removed in short order by the group members collectively. In League of Legends, since the players can't remove you themselves, Riot does it for them when you're a toxic player.

I'm going to go ahead and tell you and everyone else commenting on this post right now - bringing up the words "fed" "tilt" "troll" "wards" "play safer" or commenting at all right as soon as you die or another player on your team dies will automatically tilt someone. You're better off pretending someone isn't dying and not saying anything -especially in ranked. Most players -believe it or not - are trying to win. When they die in ranked more often than not it's actually just because of a bad match up or lack of skill. Just politely try to help them without words. Give them a kill or push their opponent out of lane so your teammate can farm. The XP doesn't matter as much as that last hit gold.

Hide chat, do t be tyler1. Don't main draven (tyler1). Don't main riven. Never use chat unless you only say things like X no flash. Ping mostly. Ignore teammates mistakes and do t intentionally feed. Play meta shit only in ranked games sice you will feed if you don't. Stfu if your bronze since you suck and not your teammates. They are just as bad as you are.

And what would you suggest I do if I lose ranked games because someone on my team didn't get the champ they wanted because the enemy banned them out so they literally go into game announcing "who wants free kills" in all chat to enemy team and walks to each lane to feed, costing me the game? Will muting them save my promos too? Should I still be worried about this trolls feelings, even if I tried asking them nicely to stop and they respond with a "f**k yourself"?

But how can I let them know they're bad at the game when I can't tell them the police should have left their carcass in the dumpster years ago? /dark humor

I want to add on to this:

If your teammate(s) is(are) not doing well, feeding their laner, out of spite for them, DOES NOT HELP THE CASE!
