Salem Witch Trials: League Community Edition (Evidence Provided)

If you don't believe in the basic concept of being "Innocent Until Proven Guilty," I probably won't get anywhere with you. This is the most sacred model we follow to determine whether someone should be punished or not.

I'm aware in the Terms of Use, Riot (who isn't obligated to follow Innocence Before Guilt) says we can be banned "FOR ANY REASON OR NO REASON, WITH OR WITHOUT NOTICE TO YOU, AND WITH NO LIABILITY OF ANY KIND TO YOU." (III. E) All of us agreed to this, but we don't really expect to get banned without any valid reason. Just imagine trying to log in only to find a statement saying "We have permanently suspended your account because we here thought it would be hilarious to see all you worked and paid for now gone. Goodbye."

A bunch people accused of using unfair 3rd party programs/sharing accounts (and perma-banned solely on this accusation) have pleaded with us on boards that they never tampered with League and never shared their account. What do a lot of people here do? Assume these people are guilty and to add insult to injury, accuse them of being scripters and liars. Gentlemen, you have **no proof **that they did break the rules. Can't we give the calm rational ones the benefit of the doubt, and attempt to provide them proper assistance and suggestions? Sure, many of them could be lying, but when you have hordes of them with similar stories and a simple copypasta to justify their bans, you should feel that this isn't enough to justify a ban.

Toxic people= typically given multiple opportunities to adjust their behavior. Evidence of their unacceptable behavior provided during each punishment. Accused scripters/account sharers= permanently banned without released proof.

These people shouldn't be having to try and convince everyone of their innocence; they should be proven guilty by their accusers.

"If you really are innocent, send a support ticket, and Riot will surely help you out." THEY. TRIED. THAT.

Someone who was perma-banned for "supposedly" using 3rd party programs mentioned, "Riot Support is just like Talking to a Wall." http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/wR1ELvFA-riot-support-is-just-like-talking-to-a-wall

Here are more links to board posts which could be true. Notice how in some posts others accused are coming forward with similar experiences: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/RGURF3sm-unjustified-permaban-support-ticket-21367883 http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/AEWKzUAA-i-was-banned-for-using-a-3rd-party-program http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/bEg3Uf8L-so-its-been-a-week-and-a-half http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/A6tWGBAI-i-was-wrongly-perma-banned http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/TF3J2rwh-account-banned-can-anyone-help-me http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/AmHiqUNU-a-lot-of-3rd-party-ban-without-actually-using-one

You want proof where the community demeans those who lost something they invested lots of money in and hours of work for? Take a look at the links provided and see how the heavy majority of people who try to tell everyone what happened to them are usually swarmed by downvotes. (the second one surprisingly being an exception). There are plenty of other posts that are filled with negative comments and doubts to those accused, these are a select few.

Here is a post which heavily doubts the truthfulness of all those accused. Notice how the person from this link is heavily downvoted after suggesting that innocent people are getting caught up in the ban waves http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/RUlrfRl1-lol-i-love-all-the-threads

I feel like I'm Chicken Little over here exclaiming, "HEY GUYS the sky is falling! People seem to be getting banned without reason. If they are innocent, this could happen to anyone. Could we work together, so during the next ban wave innocent people like us don't end up banned as well?"

But noooooooo. In a post I made asking Riot to confirm whether or not innocent people were being unfairly banned, the post has been fluctuating with upvotes and downvotes. (Thankfully more upvotes, but I did recently notice us going from +21 to +19). Some of my comments have been downvoted as well.

TL;DR: Try and be more open-minded to those accused without any released proof. We should push for a statement from Riot addressing whether or not innocent people are being banned and ask for a way to be able to prove guilt or if need be, even innocence as a defensive measure for players.

EDIT: I'm done with this matter. Here is a copypasta of my final comment, so all can see.

I don't get it. I typed an essay highlighting the negativity of the community. I explained the guilty before proven innocent mentality that's infesting the community. It seems the heavy majority of people here believe every single person is guilty solely on an accusation. Remember what you all let happen; all we needed was acknowledgment from Riot that there are masses of people claiming innocence in a punishment they received without proof. I really want to be wrong about this. I have yet to see confirmation from Riot that no innocent people have been or will be banned. Was that too much to ask for? Remember this when you possibly end up with a false ban in future ban waves. Remember all the time and money you put into your account now wasted. When you try to explain your innocence on boards and face recrimination, remember how you treated those with similar accusations.

You might have good intentions in wanting to know what a player was caught with to be banned, but many people would use that information to avoid detection and continue cheating. Riot simply cannot release that information without making it easier for people to get away with the illegal programs.

Riot will not ban an account for cheating if there is any doubt; they make sure they've found what they're looking for first. Sometimes though, the problem is that the player didn't know his account had been used with an illegal program. They let other people on their computer, or they share their account or otherwise don't protect their login information, or they are using a program they think is ok when it isn't.

Cheaters will rarely admit that they did so, but will often be very angry that they got caught. It's common for those people to make a scene about it, so it's not unreasonable to doubt the veracity of such claims on the boards after a ban wave. If a player didn't do anything wrong, they need to submit a support ticket; the community has no power over the investigation of the account.

False positives are possible but they are an exception. Most people either don't or refuse to recognize they are cheating / being toxic.

Sadly this is a thing most companies do. Read the terms of use before doing anything involved with money or anything serious. BTW you are right, I mean the chances of getting banned while being innocent are pretty low I'd guess, but they are still there...

There are ways to find out if you are a coder/programmer/hacker you could likely de-compile the software I think couldn't you and take a look at exactly what it does.

All the software that detects cheating likely does is.

. Sends information about what a persons computer is running to Riots servers such as process list . Detects known cheat programs and banned programs such as MKJOGO. . Detect cool-down and client side hacks such as trying to modify the game file . Detect modification and injection to the game files . Scans files for changes while the game is running.

. Would have to run in with the lolclient itself as if you have a good fire-wall set to manual exceptions it has to ask if any other process besides lolclient sends back data to their servers.

The concern is how players are getting banned I see a lot of people claiming false postive, maybe players are running some type of Naga Software, Auto Hotkey, or Macro software that is being detected as (Scripting) but not directly interacting with the game and resulting in players getting banned (perhaps Asus Sound Radar) that is built into the motherboard too?
