Lack of a Report Option in Champ Select Makes It Easier For Role Hijackers/Toxics to Go Unpunished

Hello, thanks for taking the time to read my post. Recently, I qued up for a ranked flex and selected support as my role. When I got in champ select, I got my support role and the Top Laner asked me if he could Support. I said "Sorry I'm not a great top" as I'm a hardcore support main. Rather than dodge or play his secondary, he replied, "Ya sorry. I'm going bot anyway. :'D" and proceeded to ban the support I wanted to play (Pyke) and choose a support champion (Bard) (He didn't intend to go adc, as the adc was duo with him and chose Kaisa). I screenshotted what happened, and told him that either he dodge, or I'd submit a support ticket. He mocked, "ooooh noo a support ticket aaaaaah." I decided to dodge at the last second since he didn't, and I was sure the game would be pretty toxic.

The Rioter who responded to my support ticket was very nice and told me how he also recently dodged because of teammates fighting over a role. I'm sure mostly all of us has experienced toxicity in champ select. The reason I'm telling this story again is because the Rioter suggested that I could provide feedback on boards as Rioters often read our feedback.

In my opinion, the summoner's code should extend to champ select, but currently, there is no way to enforce the code in these situations apart from sending a support ticket. I don't think most players would take the time to do it, and it's kinda inconvenient. I could've just not dodged and reported at the end of game, but that would have likely cost me at least 15 minutes of time (more if the jerk or his duo decided to vote no just to be more toxic) and brought a toxic match not worth playing. The player who gets his role stolen or in situations where he/she experiences toxicity should not be the one who should face a time penalty and decline of lp (or automatic loss if in promos/series). I think the penalty should be put on the person who treats his teammates unfairly.

Tl;dr: Role hijacking eliminates the purpose of choosing your role in que, and the lack of an efficient report option for this situation sends the message that jerks like him can just get away with it.

So... Role hijacking isn't a thing until they get in the game and actually do it. I'm going to get massively downvoted, but hear me out.

If a player is attempting to "hijack" a role, but then the originally assigned role goes the original role of the "hijacker" there is instantly a plausible deniability. The "hijacker" could claim, with no way of proving, thet they weren't going to steal the role, but went the role because it appeared someone else gave it up. There is no way to disprove this claim from someone.

Unless someone actually steals a role in game, there will always be a reasonable doubt and plausible deniability which will prevent punishment. This is why it is always better to play the game out. In most cases, the player won't actually try and steal the role in game. In the other cases, the evidence will be damning and the player is almost certain to get punished. This is contrary to if you "give in" and let the player trade roles in champion select, as that is almost certain to result in no punishment for the reasons above.

The argument over this "beyond a reasonable doubt" philosophy which Riot follows (which also is the reason intentionally feeding is hard to punish) is one for another thread, however, until if and when that philosophy changes, the above holds true.

Given the virtual impossibility of punishing someone for things in champion detection, and the large chance of misuse for invalid reporting in champion select, there is no reason to implement a report feature before the game starts. Any behavior that will be punished can be served just as well from the end game screen, given there is no actions in champion select that are punishable without in game actions to back the punishment.

i think the report option should be in champ select / in game / and after game , so anyone who does something reportable is instantly reported for it , if someone feeds during game his teammates will instantly report him during what he is doing wrong and the rioter who verifies reports will see it clearly , or is someone says something wrong during chat they report him right after what he said , report system after games makes it too vague and too late , after a toxic game u have to wait 30 minutes to report someone who shoudve been reported from the start. i think also they should make that if x4 reports during champion select the lobby is conceled and the player reported gets extra waiting minutes , therefore less trolled games

firstly i dotn care about someoen being toxic in champ select ... secondly , the idea you propose is good , it might give players some more freedom , which i think , could actually improve the game itself over some period ... go for it

Screenshots and tickets can help (if they actually punished anyone).

"Report people in Champ Select" yah, and report them in their bathrooms for what they're saying while showering too XD?

if you want to report someone for "role hijacking" you can do it AFTER the game, when it actually happens. just cause someone has a champ that goes in a certain lane doesn't mean they are gonna go to that lane. and if they DON'T go to that lane then they aren't hijacking your lane, thus a pointless report. but imo, fighting over lanes is extremely stupid. I don't call a lane in game. I pick a champ and go. I do not force anyone to leave nor do I obey any demands my team gives me. teams just need to learn how to share. but I know that will never happen.

The reason why is because if you are going to type in chat 'report x stole my role' you are first of all setting the mood for this game and creating a toxic environment. Then again role hijacking rarely ever happens and if it happens it would mostly be in normals. BTW! Just because you said 'jgl' first, doesn't mean jungle is yours. Blind pick is a mode where every role is open to everyone, so if you call adc then wait ages to pick and someone else picks adc before you you should adapt. I'm not talking about instalocking but again, it's a team game so communicate rather than just saying adc and locking it in. As for ranked, ah well, just play a different role. Like it matters if you win as support or adc? Winning is key here.

EDIT : Ah, the good old downvoting because some people hate the truth... If you to focus on reporting a player because he 'stole' your role, you are quite toxic. Rather than adapting you'd create a toxic environment so your chances to win are already slim. Or you could be the bigger man, leave it at that and just play with the role you can and report him after the game. Reporting someone even before the game starts is the dumbest shit ever.

you know whats really toxic? People who are bad at the game and get flamed but then report people because they cant come to grips that they actually need to take the critisicm and work on it.

Reporting in champ select has a massive flaw of never giving equal power to premades when fair, but never being fair to solo people when premades are equally powerful.

While I do agree that there needs to be something you can do in champ select, there is not a clear way on how it would be done properly, since you can force a dodge by reporting someone, which is both something you want and something that can be abused.

But, you know, there are ways you can make it work - just like dodging, successfully reporting someone could cost LP. 3 LP for the first report, 10LP for others. People in promotions can start with -LP if they promote, or have their LP deducted if they don't. If the person gets punished in the meantime, you get the LP back. I'd argue potentially 3 or 10 LP minus the queue timer is a fair price.

why can't u realize that some ppl use this game as a tool to gain relief of the stress they encounter in real life and u choosing to report everything they do or say only has a negative impact on their mental health which in my opinion isn't right. Y haven't u just tried ignoring it and moving on to a next game how often do these ppl follow u into the next game. Seriously some of u need to grow up.

I understand the frustration people have with this, but in my experience taking screenshots of what they said/did and then submitting a ticket has been a very successful way to report champ select trolls.

But perhaps this suits me as I am a habitual screenshot taker anyway. Some people might not have the forethought to take screenshots and then end up dodging or someone else will dodge before they get a chance to capture the interaction.
