A Singed main on Singed's passive

Sorgklaan··49 votes·19,871 views

It's a cool passive and all, but almost no singed main actually takes advantage of it. We singed mains don't build Tear or ROA anymore, because Ryalai's+liandry's has been such an amazing combo for so long, giving him the tankiness, damage, and slipperyness he needs.

Fitting with the theme of the passive, could we instead change it to give resists based on AP or something? I'm not really asking for a buff, but his passive currently has nothing to do with how most actual singed players play singed.

Every other Singed ability is iconic, but if singed has room for change, it is definitely in the passive.

EDIT ( originally posted on page 5 ): One more thing I would like to contribute. You could argue that the passive is redundant because as long as you manage your poison correctly, singed has absolutely no mana problems that a dorans or two or a pot can't solve in the earlygame. The only reason he builds mana is to abuse his passive, but beyond that he has absolutely no reason to build mana.

And I think that's an issue, his passive should be an expansion of his other abilities, not a separate thing to be abused. Why does he have a passive built around mana stacking when he has absolutely no mana problems to begin with?

Agree that Singed's passive could use some work. We're not really actively working on it at the moment, but one idea I liked that we were throwing around for awhile was that he either got temporary or permanent bonuses/effects while under the effects of a potion. To me, it seemed pretty cool for a guy that is supposed to be this crazy chemical mad scientist guy, and it also could have interesting implications on gameplay since he's a common flask/potion consumer generally.

That would be.... Interesting.

How would you see it working exactly?

Hadn't really fleshed out any ideas, but off the top of my head:

  • Potions are stronger based on missing Health
  • Singed is faster with potions active
  • Health potions act as Mana potions and vice versa
  • Elixirs last indefinitely, but are removed on death
  • Consuming a Potion permanently increases Singed's maximum Health.
DorkunedAuras3 votes

I think that last one is a really bad idea, as singed would just buy a ton of hp pots to get hp permanently, unless the hp is so little that it makes no impact, in which case, what's the point

I like idea one, it would have to be a fairly strong heal for it to really be worth it as a passive though. I like the second one and third as well, and they would work well with the first one. As for whether I would rather rather have a stronger heal or more movement speed, it's hard to say, because I don't know the power budget on it. If it could be a fairly strong heal that was useful outside of laning phase, then I think I would prefer the heal. Otherwise I think the movement speed would be better, but it would still have to be worth buying the potion.

Elixirs lasting indefinitely is a bit ehhhh for me. Elixirs already last for a long time, so you would have to survive for a very long time for the passive to even be worth it, and singed is about throwing himself into certain death and escaping by a thread. It's just not a high enough reward for how dangerous his job is.

the last one is interesting, could you flesh out how that would function? I can't see that being particularly gold efficient or easy to balance. I'd imagine it would have to be in conjuction with 1 through 3 to be any good, and it would have to be on a timer most likely. Again, you'd have to flesh out the ideas a bit more before I can decide on this one.

I have an idea, it's a bit thematically weird, but you can change it how you see fit. Basically singed has his own special potions in the shop that only he can buy, however, he can get them mostly for free. The catch is that the more you poison enemies, the more stacks of X you gain, and you use X to buy said potions. Kind of a spin on gangplank's special currency.

Just an odd idea, not thematically related to anything, but I'd just like to see how others spin and change that base idea.

sp4415 votes

Well, thematically that makes sense because Singed is trying out his creations on the battlefield, then using the data that he collected to improve upon them.

Right, something like that could be interesting. If after having dealt enough poison damage to enemies, he can buy an array of upgrades for his poison.

sp4414 votes

But potions require for you to give up at least one slot in your inventory, meaning that you have to gimp your late-game stats just to be able to use your passive, unless you retooled his kit around potion making, like making one of his skills consume a potion... but his Ult is already a potion, and it gives him a buttload of stats, so he'd be getting his ult twice, basically.

I mean, not that what I have in my mind is much better, mind you. Off the top of my head is to make all frontal attacks against him deal increasingly reduced damage, giving his Bulwark some actual functional sense instead of being carried along just for show, and to also give him some resistance to his current great weakness: no ranged capabilities and being very vulnerable to poke.

AmightyT16 votes

Why not give Singed an upgradable reusable potion item, similar to Viktor's Hex Core or Rengar's Bonetooth Necklace?

DEN TEL0S6 votes

Something like crystalline flask that he can upgrade?. Or what if any potions he buys go into it and give it a boosts (or you could drag and drop them into it). Depending on what you combine you get a different effect, letting you do a little chemistry. Also when he puts a single potion in it the potion is just stronger, or has more uses.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

THAT idea is awesome! You want to play some bit of mad chemist? HERE, mix some potions xD Maybe let him also mix low cost items into it? But then you have to make this interact with his ult: depending on what you mix, your ult is different ...

DEN TEL0S2 votes

Would certainly make his gameplay less binary.

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

I'm not even sure if his current gamplay is even binary, as binary implies that there are TWO things that you do... singed is more... monotonous in his currentl gameplay. Running around and maybe fling someone. That's pretty much all.

DEN TEL0S1 votes

Well proxy is still a thing.

OneSmoothDude3 votes

That's not really the question to be asking. You're the one supplying the idea; the burden of proof lies with you. Asking a Rioter, "Why not do X?" is a bit lazy. Instead, suggest some reasons why they should implement such a change.

There are literally thousands of reasons why not to implement something into the game. But if you can think of, say, only three or four reasons why it might be worth taking a look at, it will make your case significantly stronger.

Thunder Dreamss2 votes

I think in the context "why not do X" is being used as a form of suggestion rather than an actual request for specific problems with the idea.

OneSmoothDude1 votes

I know what you mean. But, I still think it's better to provide some form of reason why an idea could be beneficial than...not. It will teach the person to really think out their suggestion instead of just blurting out ideas that they just came up with.

Crowe Stalker2 votes

So an upgradeable item 2041 which gives some combat stats? I like the idea of that honestly. Maybe it held like 5-10 charges which would replace potions for him and as he bought potions, he could scale with small stats. Upgrading the Flask gives him more stats per potion use and also gives him some upgrade to his skills or at least some stuff like additional movement speed?

I really, really like any idea where Singed scales off of Potions, Flasks and Elixers because it fits well with his theme.

This is how I feel too. It could be a cool and unique gimmick if Repertoir pulls it off.

Maybe it could feel like using potions in roguelike games, or maybe it could be along the lines of

"Damaging enemies while under the effects of a Potion or Elixir increases the effects of that Potion or Elixir by 0.25% permanently [10 second CD]. Singed gains movespeed equal to a percentage of his current Mana Regen [including potions]."

to give him that "improves his designs by battlefield research" feel perhaps?

That would be really cool, but adding a reliance on potions to his kit would mean he'd need some way to store them when he had a full inventory of random things as singed usually does.

Maybe give him an extra potion slot?

Cindikle2 votes

Potion effects sounds really neat.

Level 1

  • While a health potion is in inventory, gain 3 HP on kills.
  • While a mana potion is in inventory, gain 1 MP on kills.
  • Crystaline Flask now regenerates a charge every 2 minutes.

Level 7

  • While a flask or potion is active, regenerate 1% of your missing HP and mana every 5 seconds.

Level 15

  • Flasks now last till death.
  • Can hold an additional flask buff.
Kouga2 votes

Personally I don't mind his passive that much (I still build RoA... ) but if he were going to get a new one.. I like the idea of playing into his Alchemist identity. How about something like this (numerical values as placeholders, would be tested for balance)

Master Alchemist (Passive) Singed's chemical mastery gives him additional effects on his potions as follows: Health Potion: Now additionally grants [W]% Max health per second for the duration. Mana Potion: Now additionally grants [X]% Max Mana per second for the duration. Flask: Singed gains [Y] additional charges in the Flask whenever it recharges (no change in the effect of the >charge, still grants flat rather than %) Elixirs: Can be under the effect of up to 2 Elixirs at a time. If a third Elixir is purchased, the first one purchased is >lost.

or your idea:

Elixirs: Singed can only have 1 elixir but retains the effects until he dies.

Addtionally, Singed gains [Z}% Movespeed and Tenacity for each potion effect that he has active.

If the numbers are relatively small, it wouldn't be too gamebreaking but still fun for a passive. The HP/Mana potions wouldn't be overpowering in the early game since they scale off max, but it gives him a reason to use them later on. There would be an issue of him having to "save" a potion slot.. but other Champs have passives that only impact certain stages of the game (i.e., Zilean's experience gain, etc)

TheUntitledKing2 votes

So a new Singed build would be:

item 2138 item 2041 item 2003 item 2004 item 3009 item 3151

Okay I was a bit iffy when I came into this thread because I like Singed's passive, but this concept is actually bloody great. Fits the mad chemist theme really well and sounds super fun. Like quaffing potions in a roguelike game.

Only thing is, it's not going to make him less tanky if you implement it, is it? I like seeing a fuckhuge Health bar above Singed's head.

Consuming a Potion permanently increases Singed's maximum Health

Whoa whoa slow down there though, that's Sion's gimmick. The other ideas are great though. Something which gives him a temporary HP boost scaling with level based on potions perhaps?

Dalthine2 votes

I'm not a Singed main, so take that as you will. But I had an idea of my own that I thought I would share.

You could make it so that he can sacrifice consumables like potions or elixirs by dragging them over his passive, and doing so adds it to his bottle. Based on what's in the bottle, it can add various effects to him or his abilities. For example, an Elixir of Iron can allow his Fling to move people a little further, or a Mana Potion can cause his poison trail to change color to blue and reduce enemy damage by 2% while they're in it.

You can have items stack, or even trigger special effects when he mixes certain, more potent combinations. Having three Health Potions inside of it could grant a maximum HP bonus, for example. Or Elixir of Iron + Elixir of Wrath + Elixir of Sorcery doubles the bonuses on his ult (while reducing the duration, possibly).

You'd just have to be careful about putting a cap on how many consumables/buffs he can get out of it at one time, with newer ingredients bumping out older ones.

Singed "Mix, mix, swirl, mix."

Do Singed players not build RoA anymore? A while back when I played Singed, everybody rushed RoA, and then went into liandry's/Ryali's, unless they needed a tank item sooner.

Standard singed build these days is one or two dorans, into rylais then liandry, then tank items.

My personal endgame build is usually rylai, liandry, boots, zz'rot, thornmail, banshee. If I'm up against a hard lane, I tend to rush one half of the zz'rot then usually finish it after rylai's or liandry, depending on when I need it. But that's my own personal bias towards building singed.

Hmmm... I see how you can say this. You aren't as aggressive as me. In an approx 30 min game I dealt 26,936 damage where you have done 17,597. Granted, you are diamond and people are a bit more cautious than silver. Still, after checking multiple games, I usually have over 20k damage if it lasts more than 30 minutes.

I mean, i checked out your ranking on lolskill score and you are like, 115th best in the world. Not gonna say you are bad because that would be a blatant lie. I'm just saying I think you could have way more survivability and damage with a roa.

If you don't believe me: you with roa 39 min 40 sec game 46,083 to champions... you without roa 44 min 47 sec 35,947 to champs

Hmmm... I see how you can say this. You aren't as aggressive as me.

Actually, I am aggressive. A item 1056 item 3116 build is much more aggressive than a item 3027 build you get more AP and HP sooner and the permaslow passive.

In an approx 30 min game I dealt 26,936 damage where you have done 17,597. Granted, you are diamond and people are a bit more cautious than silver. Still, after checking multiple games, I usually have over 20k damage if it lasts more than 30 minutes.

That's not a scientific or mathematical comparison. You have to analyze it in a vacuum and you can't do that if you take two random games with different circumstances and compare them. There's this thing called "doing math" that you should try once in a while. Also, Diamond players are smarter about taking free harass/damage, kiting, and running through poison than silver players are. Worthless comparison.

I'm just saying I think you could have way more survivability and damage with a roa.

You say that without any math to back it up. I've done math (which you can check on my guide) that shows that Rylais+Liandrys is more damage than RoA+Anything on Singed

If you don't believe me: you with roa 39 min 40 sec game 46,083 to champions... you without roa 44 min 47 sec 35,947 to champs

with: 23m 45s 15,279 damage without: 24m 34s 8,210 damage

Worthless numbers, once again. Not statistically representative, not scientifically accurate.

Players in general have this strange notion conditioned into their head that "oh I have to build item 3027 because Singed's passive mentions the word 'mana'"

All I have to say is tear never was optimal for singed unless way ahead. RoA, with the recent change is insanely strong, not as much as both rylai and liandries but way better rush than any of them. well dude, you are never supposed to build both of those ever... like maybe in season 2, but its one or the other, and has been that way for a very long time. My build is typically:

item 1056 + item 2003 Start - then another item 1056 and more potions after my first proxy back.

item 3027 item 3116 item 3512 item 3151 item 1324 then item 3001 or item 3143 depending on team comp.

You also have 0 games played in your history as Singed... so there is that.

A nice potion passive would be singed gaining 1 permanent health every 5/3/1 second a potion is in effect, including his ult. Elixirs don't count but give other effects in use with his ult.
