Why do we have a chat filter option?

When using cusswords, racial, sexist, or homophobic slurs is just a report away from being banned now?

I get that if a player is directly hassling another player for being a certain race, ethnicity, sexuality etc it should be punished. Like if said player continues to harass him/her after the game and beyond.

But we already have a system for this. We have the mute button, we have a chat filter, and the only way to even communicate with someone post game is if you add them to your friends list. Even then you can always remove them, or even block them.

People are getting reported for just indirectly cursing now. You could be quoting some offensive moon man meme out of nowhere and that would give you cause to be banned.

So why is it even an option to players? Why isn't there a permanent chat filter restricting anyone from typing any kind of slur or cussword? Is there an appropriate time to say the N word??

A chat filter is not a reason for you to excessively curse!

If you just use the word "Fucking" or any other cuss word you get reported. "Ward fucking baron dude", reported. "God Riven such a fucking retarded champ", reported. (Get's killed) "Shit", reported.

I would rather not have an 8 year old seeing the word faggot in chat and then go to school and use it, or come ask me about it, simple as that.

That doesn't make any sense.

Like I said, why not have the game put on a Club Penguin level of chat filter so no one can say those offensive words if its so bad. If the adults want to say expletives amongst their peers, we can use a private messaging system or Skype. Again, there's absolutely no reason we have inflammatory curse words even allowed to be uttered in chat if Riot's introducing some new no tolerance policy.

All this does is either A) weed out all the racists and homophobes from playing a game of their choosing (Which is actually quite discriminatory if that was their intent) B) Give the real trolls a chance to grief gamers further, by giving them a tool to exploit the former.

It literally serves no purpose. I'd rather have a frustrated team mate shout out an expletive in his frustration to win the game, then all the trolls and feeders out there who like to bait that player out, cause fights, and intentionally lose it.

The problem is Riot has to actually put effort into the latter, where the former is easy as using a chat log and a word filter.

What are you arguing? Give me the gist because you are making no sense. The chat filter is toggle-able for players who'd rather not have their children see obscenities or have to see them themselves. Simple.

we have a chat filter because not everyone who plays are adults, we have children or people who just can't handle that sort of language. That's why it's optional whether or not you want to have it enabled. You using a random cuss word is not going to get you banned, you using it to actually attack other people will. Saying "fuck!" is not punishable, saying "fuck you!" is

I don't think you people are understanding my argument. My argument is on the side of having a MANDATORY filter, for all players.

Because if you ever curse in this game, there's a high chance a player will see this, and report you for it (for the lels, more than not). Your account can be restricted or suspended because of this.

So why bother having to exercise restraint every second of your league activity, when it could automatically be filtered away. A mandatory filter would mean,

-no more spam reports for language, harassment, verbal abuse, negative attitude etc. -average players don't get restricted from playing the game they love. -the precious virgin ears of our new generation do not need to be subjected to such filthy language.

Everyone wins except the trolls who love to report people and abuse the system.

you do know that people can easily go around filters right? you using a random cuss word isn't going to do anything to you. You using it to attack/insult/harass someone will. People can report you for anything, doesn't mean that those reports actually do anything if you yourself haven't done anything. Like i said you saying "fuck!" is not punishable, you saying "fuck you!" is

What about the N word? or the word "Faggot"?

I got reported once for quoting Moon Man. The racial slurs weren't directed at anyone in particular. In fact, saying something like

"Gank my lane you ______" isn't even intentionally harassing someone for their race or creed unless that person revealed so before hand.

It's a lot different then

"Hey, guys, my sister is going to play this game so be nice" "Women have no place in league, get that **** out of here blah blah blah"

THAT's harassment.

But why is the guy who says "gank my lane you loser" fine, but "gank my lane you faggot" not?

When is it EVER appropriate to use those words anyway? Why aren't they just auto filtered out?

why are you using racial slurs in the first place? those are words you only really use with closed friends not spew them to random people you have no connection to

Chat filter is exclusively for offensive words, not for offensive people, and just because we have the means to mute you out of existence should mean you are free to be an obnoxious runt.

It's incredible there are still people around who think that for some reason other people are obligated to put up with their mood shifts.

Bull dops. People like you just enjoy reporting people. It's the only reason you're arguing against this.

In fact, since you ARE arguing it is proof that what you like to do is find offensive people, goad them into saying something inflammatory and reporting them for it.

People don't get chat restricted for arguing with another player, they get chat restricted for arguing with another player and using inflammatory language. That's how the system works.

Using cussing words in non offensive ways shouldn't be reportable and I don't think it is. I've used the N word quite a few times (especially when there's an Ekko or Lucian in the game, I always call them by the N word unless they're already mad at me) I also use "fucking" in the sense of "very" quite often and haven't gotten a ban or restriction for it (yet?)

Got news for you. What you are doing puts you at risk for being reported. Riot has a no tolerance system whenever homophobic or racial slurs are uttered in a game. If someone reported you for it, you could very well get in trouble.

Whenever I get chat restricted or punished, it's because I've used inflammatory language while arguing. Not that I was arguing, but because the chat log picks up on the language. Same goes for other buzzwords like "Noob" or "You suck".

The worst part of it is, I can't argue against it, they caught me red handed using that language. But if the language is intolerable than why not outright filter it and save us all the trouble?
