And not random happenstance, the enemy drafting a higher number of OP Champs, or simply the quality of your team. You can put in more work than all 9 other players in a match and still be handed a loss. I just don't understand.

The part where people repeatedly insist that individual skill is enough to climb a 1v9 game. It's not.

That sure is awful of you to become so cynical that you're calling it a 1v9 game! It's cynical to almost a fault? Why are you even playing this game if it upsets you so much? [slayer-jinx-wink]

I appreciate the thinly veiled insult, but it is a 1v9 game unless you queue with friends. You want to climb, your team wants to throw, and if they do, there's nothing in your power as a solo player to do about it. Furthermore, it's less that the game upsets me and more that the system for climbing ranked does. I still find messing around in norms to be crazy fun especially when you get friends together and do stupid stuff like an all-hooks comp. But ranked, when your mage teammate decides they can 1v1 Trundle? Not so fun.

What changes from rank vs normals other than a number attached to your name? So if someone goes full silly in normals it's fine because it's normals right? No number attached to it right? Win or loss who cares right?

Thank deep, think long. Rank is pointless. To take a page right outta the cynical hand book you'll never be good enough for your rank to matter, so why worry about it? You're not going pro, so who cares~? Maybe this is less cynical and more realistic, or perhaps defeatist? Whatever it is, it's super right. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

The game remains the same yes, but the real difference, the important difference, is the purpose. Like with any competitive/versus game that has a Ranked mode; from MOBAs to Fighters to RTS games, the purpose of Ranked is to test yourself. Selfish as it sounds, it's about personal pride. That little emblem by your name or on your profile is something you can look at and say "I worked for this. I earned this." You put in the time, the effort, the dedication; and that meaningless little emblem is your reward. A small way to say "I did it, and I'm proud of myself." So when you put in your heart and give your grade A best, only to have the game turn around and hand you someone else's failing grade it's not just hurtful, it's insulting.

shit logic to avoid admitting you need to git gud. Meanwhile pros solo their way to challenger, why haven't you? And if you enjoy playing with friends and doing crazy comps, then why not stick to norms then? Just forget about rank. Btw silver is easy and LMAO at that gnar build, basically a 4v5 in your damn favor...

the only remotely OP champ the enemy team has is lux. malph, jhin, and zed are equally OP

Individual skill CAN win most games. Hell, I've won a 4v5 because I know how to play Bard extremely well.

Thing is, if you can't work and communicate as a team, you aren't going to win at all.

Pros always work their way up to challenger eventually. If we were good, we would too.

This game was completely winnable. You guys had a 7K gold lead at one point and you completely threw in a team fight at 46 minutes, got aced, and lost. Looks like a pretty typical game to me. Throws happen all the time, doesn't mean its impossible to win. If anything you should use this as a learning experience and realize that even if your team is down 7K gold that its possible to come back and win.

Honestly it just looks like your team didn't understand you win conditions, got outscaled by the enemy team and didn't peel the Leona/Jarvan/Gnar off your Jihn who was your only shot late game which allowed the full build Twitch to just wreck your team.

I'd love to see the replay if you got it.

That's exactly my problem. I was punished for the mistakes of others. I did my damnedest to ult the threats, e the autoattackers, q the people who needed slowed, push the waves, zzrot the right spots, etc. But none of that matters when your team decides they wanna 4v4 without their malphite and no vision on the full build enemy Twitch. I put in the effort, and dare I say the skill. I earned a win. But what I did as an individual didn't matter. The other 4 decided to throw, and I was forced to accept their loss.

That's how any team game or team sport is. Sometimes your best isn't enough to get the victory.

That said, there will also be games where you DON'T deserve to win but you will still win.

Game to game the system can feel very unfair and very random but over hundreds of games these "extremes" will even out and what will matter is how well you did in those games where your performance directly impacted the result of the game.

I feel your pain bud hey, at least you're in silver man bronze fucking blows I go against smurfs all the damn time. I blame the lee sin for throwing the comp off.

Bouncemaster Zac1 votes

Hey look, the exact same thing just happened again. Kog and Braum deliberately throw by attempting to 2v5 THREE SEPARATE TIMES. And despite doing very well myself, I was handed a loss. Someone else's loss. https://gyazo.com/13244fc5ef69716223315e903be06bf9

My point stands; the individual's skill doesn't matter. You're being ranked on how op your pick was and how much your team tried to drag you down.

Here's the thing, OP. Individual skill won't win you every game. It will win you more games than you lose. If you can show that you're better than your peers at literally every aspect of the game, you will rise. Here's a small list of things you can improve on as a LoL player:

  1. Champion mastery
  2. Last hitting
  3. Matchup knowledge
  4. Macro game knowledge
  5. Adaptability
  6. Wave management
  7. Clicking accuracy
  8. Reaction time
  9. Map awareness
  10. Vision game
  11. Back timing
  12. TP usage
  13. Communication
  14. Desalinization
  15. Team morale management
  16. Shotcalling
  17. Team synergy knowledge
  18. Gameplan execution
  19. Objective control
  20. Identifying win conditions
  21. Identifying power spikes
  22. Setting up ganks/plays
  23. Mind games

There are definitely more things to improve on, but start with these few. And remember, improvement is an active process. You can't expect to get better rapidly by just playing. In your games, actively work on the elements shown. It will exhaust you, but that's what it takes to climb.
