Riot-An Idea to Stop Instant Lockers

SnugglePuggle94··1 votes·962 views

Riot,

I have an idea. I just had a ranked match where I was going top with Cho'Gath to counter Darius. Two picks down from me a guy picked Yasuo and instant locked, even after Anivia was taken and was going mid, so I was forced to switch to jungle and let him go top. Long story short, he did okay early, then fed in the late game, and we eventually lost. I am so incredibly mad at people who do that. How about if for an example, someone calls mid and takes Ahri. Two picks later a guy wanted mid also and tries to lock on a mid champion, but he's not allowed. If you can set it up to where people are not allowed to lock on a lane champion when that lane is already taken, that will be a huge help to stop instant lockers.

You really want to screw non-meta players over, huh.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

Yes, because it messes the whole team up, steals their lane, and also 9/10 times makes they team lose because that instant locker fed.

Does nothing for you as Yasuo is generally seen as a mid laner. Also makes it difficult for champs that play multiple lanes like Annie/Morg/etc etc. Also they could just as easily select the champ and just wait for time to count down for it to pick.

Long story shory your suggestion does nothing to stop insta-lockers and only makes things more difficult on others.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

If they are not allowed to select at all, then that wouldn't happen. Still, I think its a good idea.

Martyrofsand2 votes

Its not. Your suggestion is to completely block off a selection of champions just becaused someone pick a champ for that lane. It ruins things for champs like Hec/Shyvana/Morgana/Annie/Naut/etc etc who can go to multiple lanes. Effectively someone couldn't play support Naut because someone else picked a jungler, or jungle hec because someone else grabbed a top laner.

There is literally nothing good about your suggestion and only bad.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

Maybe there could be a way to do that. They could have an option where after a lane is picked, for example Darius top, then someone wants to select Mundo for example, it would give them a warning sign saying that lane is taken, and the only option is jungle/support/whatever, and if they select one of those but still try to steal top lane, the shop wouldn't let them select certain items or whatever. Just an idea.

You can't block off a champion because their main position was taken. I'm sorry for being rude, that's a terrible idea.

I think the only way to fix stealing a lane is through Ranked Teambuilder. Which we're getting eventually. But even then, if someone wants to troll, choosing "Top Yasuo" won't stop them from going mid in game. That's impossible to stop.

If you read the other comments I posted about that.

I read... and I emphasize the point that Teambuilder is probably your best answer. Not the only answer, but the best I can think of at least

SnugglePuggle941 votes

I don't like Team Builder, as I can't see who I'm playing against and can't re-adjust my champion pick to counter the enemy laner I'm going against.

djjomon1 votes

I understand that

Martyrofsand1 votes

That is why they don't have ranked team builder because they are trying to find a way to implement the pick/bans of normal ranked while allowing people to still get the rolls they want. Ranked team builder is good, what you are suggesting is absolutely terrible and should never be implemented in anyway.

First, anyone who has the intention of fucking you all up can do so regardless of what rules are imposed as their intention from the very start was to break them In fact.. THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE TO LOCK IN, to steal your lane You cannot stop me, support bard, from waltzing up top, and taking your lane, I can do so with a coin or a machete if I so desired to What you are doing is restricting honest players... who never had any intention of hijacking roles, items, lanes, etc.

no you cannot just block off asinine behavior no you cannot just block off a whole section of champs no you cannot just block off an entire lane no you cannot just block off a whole section of items either thats too much wishful thinking

if you want instalocking to be a reportable offense, good fking luck

SnugglePuggle941 votes

I am not restricting honest players, I'm restricting those who are trying to be a douche and steal lanes. It's most likely Riot will not put this in place but maybe they will think of something else to punish them for it, all I hope for is that they do at least SOMETHING.

when someone has to have that zed top, and not play a tank .-.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

Yup. I hate that.

Qazgir1 votes

But what if I say lock after somone else has picked it, in champ select I say , in order to please your system, i will go support, and then once the game starts I go top. What then?

SnugglePuggle941 votes

Like I said down below, gives them a warning that the lane is taken, and you can pick a jungler option or whatever, and if they still try to steal that lane when the game starts, the shop only gives them items to buy for the lane that they said they would go-jungler, etc.

Qazgir1 votes

But what counts as a jungle item? What if I want to buy something other then those items?

All this does is continue the "meta." Metas change. Currently, Ashe is not a mid. She very well could be a mid after these changes. However, that's not for Riot to decide. It's for the players to decide. Cho is a mid. He's not a common mid. Master Yi is a mid. Xin and Jarven are also mids. Most people don't know this. The meta is generally a "best practice" thing. You cannot force people to play the meta, and by doing this that's what you're doing. If people didn't break the meta, no innovation would happen.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

If you don't do that, then their is no punishment for instant lockers. There needs to be something that can contain this or punish them for it. It's not cool to have your lane stolen and make you go another lane because they wouldn't yield.

GroundRuleDouble1 votes

It's called reporting. Also, pick order should not be the reason someone gets a lane over someone else. This is the problem with ranked. Everyone should be working together on picks. If the last pick says "mid or top pref" I do everything in my power to give them mid or top (generally) because it's probably their best lanes. People use pick order too often as a reason to think only about themselves and sometimes force teammates into playing lanes they aren't as good at. Pick order is there to balance out the champ pool between teams. It's not giving permission to the first picker to choose whatever he wants without any regard to his team.

I actually believe that first picking something without regard to his team (and only thinking of himself) is almost as bad as instalocking later (almost..).

SnugglePuggle941 votes

Reporting only goes so far. Not every single person is banned for instant locking for one time. Still, pick order is there to help the higher picks be able to get what they want, and it shouldn't be like you say, at least its not in my elo. If someone steals a lane, everyone is mad and hates them for it. Thats why I want it to stop.

GroundRuleDouble1 votes

Pick order is not there to help higher picks get what they want. That's a result of how the system is set up, but that is not WHY it's there. This is part of the problem in ranked. People make picks without regard to their team just because they have a higher pick.

OMG so much this. Remember when pick order wasn't random and it had to do with your ELO? Even then it was questionable to justify "IM FIRST PICK SO IM MID! LOLZ" Now that its random? lol get real.

Here's an idea. League of Legends is a team game. If someone requests top and you're able to go somewhere else.. Let them have it and go another lane? Maybe they want top because they're good top? Maybe theyre on a smurf account that has limited champ pool/runes? Maybe they literally can only play top?

I feel like the OP is the type of player that ll first pick a lane without regard to the entire team, then proceed to flame said team when they fail at their "assigned" roles. lol

SnugglePuggle941 votes

Most if not all people take what they want and don't give others their lane. In Bronze that is typical.

GroundRuleDouble1 votes

I'm in Bronze. I get what you're saying. However, I'm saying that mentality is wrong. I try to accommodate my teammates when I have a higher pick because it's a team game. I'm just trying to change people's mindsets here.

It's not possible bro... you can't stop people being a douche.

However what they are already doing, is trying to put the Team Builder thing into the ranked system.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

Team Builder...eh. I don't know. Still, I think there should be a way to stop people from being an ass.
