Ivern's E should lose the slow if the shield is popped.

If the damage still goes off, fine whatever. But please remove some of that disgusting sticking power, it's just obnoxious and unnecessary.

Imo the damage shouldn't go off when popped. It's basically saying "Hey, break me and you'll get hurt sooner!"

Salron7 votes

IIRC the damage still goes off after the same amount of time no matter if/when the shield is broken

Pendergast8916 votes

it should act like sion w, if popped nothing happens.

You really shouldn't compare a Support and a Tank.

invisiblecat14 votes

Although you are correct, he isn't comparing them, but relating how one thing functions to the idea of another functioning similar to that

Troll for Trump1 votes

But they really need to be treated differently. One of them can live when his shield is popped. The other gets blown up

ModAcademy Kayn5 votes

Except there's a reason why Sion's shield does damage. The Shield is meant to draw aggro to him, so that you pop his shield in order to stop a 10% health + whatever time bomb. Ivern's shield is more utility than damage/survivability, consider how little in comparison it is in scale. It's meant to help people survive, than to draw aggro.

That's why you can't compare the two shields.

Ralanr3 votes

Then why does his shield do damage at all?

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

Damn, that was a fast reply, but it does, especially in lane. If you're in a fight, and you get your shield to go off, it means that it also took a lot of damage before you detonated. It's a duel survival tool and offense tool, so of course it's not going to do the best damage, but it's honestly nothing to scoff at.

Ah shit, I misread your comment. It's because Ivern still needs some damage. There are very few abilities in the game that give a shield alone, without some other attribute attached.

Some other attribute... like a slow?

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Congrats, you got a shitty shield with a slow. Ivern's shield is a part of his kit's damage output in the way of a Supports, by helping people kill enemies. Since he's a jungler as well, he needs that extra little damage so that his ganks aren't completely reliant on the laner.

Azteryz1 votes

he's comparing a shield that has a bonus effect with another shield that has a bonus effect

every shield in the game period that has a bonus that when destroyed should also get rid of that bonus effect

sion shield damage /janna shield/ naut shield are good examples of this

lulu shield/ivern shield are bad examples of this

if i am able to destroy your shield i should be rewarded for destroying it. like why should you able to punish me for that?

Atanchan2 votes

You're not being punished for destroying the shield, you're being punished for staying in the spell's area of effect.

It's just like with Face of the Mountain - the only relation between the shield and the rest of the spell is the fact that the rest of the spell goes off at the same time the shield would expire if it isn't destroyed.

It's kinda like expecting the speed boost from Kayle to expire the moment you wipe away the health healed.

Ivern isn't a tank...

Glory ln Death1 votes

OR! Maybe Sion's shield should act like Ivern's and still do damage even after its been popped! Hmmmm, considering how Sion's shield works, it should probably do damage when it's popped, too, rather than waiting.

Eh, I see why that's frustrating, but it's moreso for disengage with that nerf. Typically if he's sticking to you, you're not attacking him. I realize kiting is a thing and maybe others are hitting him, but the design of the offensive slow is balanced around the general concept that you're running, not attacking and he's chasing, or someone else is chasing, etc.

This nerf would target his disengage, which he honestly has very little of. Very slow champion, no real mobility unless the camps aren't cleared, which ideally they should be. If the slow didn't go off, then it'd just be a temporary shield and relatively pointless. The slow is what allows him to attempt to lumber away.

The concept behind Ivern is to be an irritating support character. However, he doesn't go in the support slot. He's a jungler, so a champion that doesn't function as a tanky engage or do damage to be a carry that works as a support needs to have an edge, and that's his survivability. The shield helps reinforce that, so you're dealing with Daisy knock ups, roots, possible dashes and slows when trying to bring this guy down. He won't do any real damage back, and nor does he heavily augment his allies. He just stays on you.

He has striking resemblance to Nunu, another support-like jungler who doesn't work so well in the supp role. Nunu is given some more damage, hence why he lacks shields and roots. But Nunu, like Ivern, has permanent sticking power and a way to speed himself up. Support junglers are defined by their tanky build paths that allow them to survive and stick. Really nothing more.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

He's a support. Make it lose the damage if its popped, don't get rid of his main source of cc though.

greekvandaL1 votes

he doesnt need the slow anyway. but oh well.

Teridax681 votes

I agree, making the detonation conditional only upon the shield surviving, much like Sion's W, would give Ivern a lot more counterplay, and take some excessive consistency out of his fights. He's in a strong enough position right now to be able to afford such a nerf, and even if the meta changes in a way that disfavors him, he's still be in a healthier state than he is now, and could afford to receive more power in other parts of his kit.

AirKingNeo1 votes

How about just nerf the E shield? His gameplay is fine, his numbers not.

RenownedWheat422 votes

It wouldn't be such a pain if it didn't slow/damage even after you deplete it entirely.

AirKingNeo1 votes

Then the ability would lose a lot of power.

RenownedWheat421 votes

You're aware how powerful it already is though, right? I'd even be happy with it having a diminished effect for popping it, personally.

WinTheWarOnPants1 votes

Oh dear! we wouldn't want the most overpowered champ in the game with a 57% winrate(for like 10 patches in a row) to lose power....

AirKingNeo1 votes

Ivern isn't the most overpowered champion. If he was, his performance rating would be pretty high.

And then we have Graves and Lucian and Lulu.

Troll for Trump2 votes

His numbers are fine tbh, his identity is not.

WinTheWarOnPants1 votes

does any other shield in the game give effects after it's detonated other than his?

ninjaroxas2 votes

Lulu's

WinTheWarOnPants1 votes

I almost said "except lulu's" lol It's not an effect of her shield. It' part of her passive.

ninjaroxas1 votes

Kinda i guess? her shield is what gives it to your ally though and it sticks around for 5 seconds even if the shield pops
