do unopopular champions have lower win rates?

I mean, when I mained Aatrox, even though I kept a steady 60% win rate on most of my accounts, I often lost matches because the teams at that time never see Aatrox, and literally don't know what to do when I start a good fight, because they don't have enough experience working with an Aatrox to feel confident in following my lead--they can't gauge my damage or my sustain in their head to make that on the fly judgement call.

Does low popularity cause low win rate which cause lower popularity? Is it just a vicious cycle?

I think its a travesty that Riot has so many champions, and yet to climb or be viable at high elo, your choices are very limited.

Actually alot of champions with low popularity strive with high winrate.

AurelionSol https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/champion/AurelionSol/

Amumu https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/champion/Amumu/

Quinn https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/champion/Quinn/

Just a few examples, but this is because pretty much only the people that mainly the champion play them so the data is skewed compared to popular champions.

No, generally the less played champions have relatively high win rates. This has been true for years.

Honestly, balance might be better to follow play rates rather than win rates, because dedicated players to the champions will not really care if their champion is nerfed enough to bring them from 25% pick rate down to 5%, when that difference can sometimes be as little as -5 base MS or -25 atk range.

Its more like popular champions = low win rate like zed yasuo lee, unpopular = higher winrate than second one like ziggs kayle teemo

The lower a champ's pickrate is, the higher are the chances of his generic winrate to not represent his general strength. If a champ is barely picked, it'll have either very high or very low winrates, for example:

AurelionSol , who has an huge winrate while still being a "meh" champ or, on the opposite; Nasus, who has a very low winrate while still being a decent champ

Since their pickrates are so low, their winrates dosen't really shows if they are strong or weak, since the winstreak of a single person can boost their winrates by a whole 0.1%, or do the opposite.

TL;DR: If a champ has a low pickrate, don't look at their winrate

Nasus is dogshit friend. Much worse than Aurelion Sol.
