Why should I pick Caitlyn over Jinx?

Jinx does everything Caitlyn does except, better.

Both have long range poke skill shots, except jinx's is longer and slows. Both have long range, but jinx is aoe, and has a attack speed steroid Both have a Root trap, Cailtyn's can stay forever, but only places one instead of 3. Both have long range ults, Caitlyns is lock on but can be blocked, Jinx's is global aoe but can be blocked as well. Only thing Cait has going for her is her escape, bout it.

Seems like everything Caitlyn does, Jinx beats.

There is no reason to pick any ADC over Jinx, Vayne, Kalista or Tristana.

Cait has longer range level 1, her main harass spell goes through minions, her traps can be used to block off choke points for long periods of time or deny your enemy a favorable position, her net also makes her safer than Jinx.

They aren't really that comparable, Jinx is a hyper carry, while Cait is more of a utility carry

Cait's ult can actually open a fight, potentially force a high-damage target to back and making it a 4v5.

Jinx's ult is basically useless on anyone over half-health. It's only good for getting kills, while Cait's ult has some utility to it.

Jinx also naturally tends to shove the lane. If she's getting bullied and has to farm with Fishbones, the AoE is going to push the lane towards her opponent, which is the opposite direction she wants it going.

Piltover's Peacemaker is also better for straight damage than Zap. Zap's main strength is in the slow.

Jinx is probably still the superior ADC right now, though. But Caitlyn has a bit more utility and nuance that shouldn't be overlooked. She also still absolutely shits on Vayne, who has a more even matchup with Jinx.

Cait wins lane, takes dragon, takes mid, takes baron... She must snowball. Also her crits hurt...

cait is better early to mid-early game and after that jinx will outscale; and jinx's range is only as long as cait when u level Q and use Q not in minigun.

caitlyn played properly is probably the best early game adc in the game. the problem is people dont know when to trade with autos at the best time for the most part. and if you dont know when to trade autos as cait they will simply trade back their autos. if you blindly try to abuse your range without knowing the right times...any adc will punish caitlyn. because her only real adv is the massive range and poke. her poke in lane is the most disgusting of any adc and if played right theres really not anything you can do as any other adc. theres a reason in high elo and pro play that when they pick her its simply to force a lane swap or them to outright win lane phase. caitlyn's literal only downside is that she has no inherent attack speed steroid or dmg buff so she scales weaker comparatively into the late game than a lot of ADCs. but her headshot passive is quite strong come late game and if you can get a headshot on squishie with crit its almost a one shot. Jinx does not do everything caitlyn does but better. Jinx's range is nowhere near caitlyn and her range costs mana. caitlyns doesnt. caitlyns poke goes through minions. jinx's doesnt. Caitlyn is way more of a lane bully. Jinx is actually weak early if you know how to trade properly.
