Do you prefer tank-meta or assassin-meta?

Zero Skill Tank··11 votes·2,790 views

I'm just curious what view is more popular, I saw many post how people hate assassin-meta when everybody bursting around with muscle-memory combos that have little counter play after a single mistake, and many posts from players who are bored of tanks hitting each other with wet newspapers.

Personally I prefer tank-meta, I think that having more than one opportunity to outplay each other makes players takes more risks, thus making game more fun.

I'd take anything over an assassin meta, at least I don't have a permanent grey screen in the other metas and I can actually play League of Legends.

I prefer tank metas because it brings in more strategic variety and decision making.

I enjoy tanky metas because I like teamfighting. Having a fight over with in 3 seconds just isn't fun to me.

I prefer the support metta...oh wait, i forgot that every tim supports get something nice non-supports abuse it till it gets nerfed...

I stand by the tank meta. It was a more methodical style of play. You have to actually be good to win Lane instead of who ever gets their combo off first. Long games were fine because it was fun to have a full build to win instead of two at end of the game. Protect the carry was fun for both tanks and ADCs when both teams have to slug it out to get to the target. Everyone had their role and it actually meant something. Now it's who go the first kill wins the game.

Tank meta. I wasn't forced to ban Zed to keep our carries alive.

Tank meta is healthiest meta.

And not just because of all the guys stacking health.

I miss the tank meta. At least in the Tank Meta there were MUCH more variety in team comps, and the ability to make a comeback was actually there. Also my main mid laner Zyra shined through the entire meta :3 i wrecked tanks with her, ahh i miss those days

The Tank meta isn't about taking more risks, it's about being able to make more mistakes and not being punished for them.

I prefer the ADC meta more than any of them, because it made all the champions I like to play really strong (rengar, Udyr, Nasus, Malphite, ect). The only downside to this is, they have either been permabanned (except for Nasus), picked by someone else, or nerfed into the ground (in the case of Rengar).

I've only been playing since season 5 though, so I don't really no what an Assassin meta is like, unless we're already in it, but personally, I think this is the ADC meta if anything.

If you gave me the choice between an assassin meta and the tank meta, I'd have to go for the tank meta because I miss Cinderhulk Udyr, especially taking Smite TP in the top lane. That shit was fun.

You are being punished for mistakes, only not with instadeath.

Apocyliptic2 votes

Death is how you're punished for your mistakes. Not dying is synonyms with not being punished, hence why these boards act like Cinderhulk meta was the most balanced state of league, when it really wasn't.

Zero Skill Tank8 votes

Not dying is synonyms with not being punished

No, it isn't. Take as example new Poppy vs new Shen on top. Misposition on either side will cost a lot, but won't mean a death. It requires constant outplays for any side to gain significant advantage, but also both sides are much more likely to try playing each other, instead of just farming safely like most mages would vs an assassin, because the punishment is not as severe.

LankPants4 votes

Taking an objective off of your mistake is a bigger punishment than dying. Tanks excel at this form of play and drive the game towards it.

Apocyliptic1 votes

Your not going to GET any objectives without getting kills, and if you don't believe me, remember the double tp meta not awhile back? You think that wouldn't come back if people were never killing each other?

The only thing you could lose by not killing someone is maybe a dragon, and some tower damage, making the laning phases absurdly long and League of Legends would turn into a war of attrition based on who could freeze the lane for 10 minutes straight then come out of the blue with 50 more farm and slaughter their laner over and over again.

The only difference between this and games now is that the games NOW are shorter, and you wouldn't have to sit for 10 minutes last hitting minions while your laner watches. That's what your suggesting.

To be punished you have to lose something, you can lose something without deaths being involved. If you watch any pro games you'll see a lot of matches have little kills, yet either team is constantly punished for bad positioning or being somewhere they shouldn't be. Your opponent being forced to recall means they lose experience, farm, and potentially an objective, it is no different than if they died other than the fact you didn't get the extra gold for their bounty.

LordGeovanni1 votes

I dis like terms like being some where you shouldnt when that only applies after you dont get help from your team or the enemy out plays you which could have gone either way. its not that you shouldnt have been there its just that being there didnt turn out in our favor

Apocyliptic1 votes

So basically, you want people to be pushed out of lane repeatedly till the enemy finally takes a tower and gets a slight minion advantage each time? Nothing happens in the LCS unless a kill happens... They don't happen often, sure, but you aren't getting a turret unless you have a severe lane advantage or are giving up something in return as you lane swap (turret for turret).

You want games to last well over an hour simply so you can have, "another chance," again and again and aren't punished for your mistakes. That bounty gold is DESERVED and NEEDED if he pushes you out of lane. That's on you.

LordGeovanni2 votes

nope getting killed by 2 crits is far more balanced if you have armor 3-4 crits if the champion is a well built malphite or ramus 6-10 crits but the adcs will crit your face off and there is nothing you can do about it late game besides have your own adc do the same which isnt really what the answer should be

TekkenPlayer6 votes

I dont like the ADC meta at all. It made the ADC role much harder since everyone is playing Lux, Malphite, and Zed because of it. It also makes ADCs like Quinn, Graves, and Corki do no brain damage. The tank meta was just as unhealthy. Games were longer, but if you had any early game ADC like graves, Caitlyn, Lucian, or Draven then you were practically useless at the 30 minute mark. At the minute the game only favors burst ADCs (exception of kogmaw).

An assassin meta although is much worse, it rather have Sejuani or Rammus come at me at 240 mph than a Malphite or LB instakilling me effortlessly

Xicashina1 votes

There was a mini assassin meta right after cinder hulk faded but it only lasted a few patches before a mini mage meta started which in turn was pushed out by the ad meta starting in preseason.

Ralanr2 votes

I don't like an assassin meta because it involves everyone dying too quickly to accept that they made a mistake. It feels nerve wracking.

I agree that tanks can be annoying (our job is to keep you still or keep you away from our team) but at least a tank meta can allow for better understanding of why you fucked up.

Next tank meta would sadly involve a lot of powerful juggernauts since they scale well with tank items. So complaints on tanks doing damage with examples like Garen or Nasus is going to show up all over. And that mistake annoys me.

Nahui2 votes

Assassin meta because yo can CC and instaburst an assassin. You can't do that to a tank. Assassin meta comes when they are able to do more damage, however survivability is all the same as non assassin meta. Tank meta comes when tanks get significant survivability buffs, which translates to higher damage.

And it's not low damage tank metas either. It's always the rise of malphite, voli, Mundo, etc.

LordGeovanni1 votes

idk what makes people think that tanks arent supposed to do damage they arnt supposed to do burst damage and walk away to repeat they are supposed to stick in it sustain damage. assassin meta assassins rip through everything and as the saying goes death is the best cc

Nahui1 votes

Malphite does burst.

Mundo puts out higher numbers than most champions.

Voli does too.

Assassin meta Assassins rip through squishies. That's it. In the assassin meta, Mundo never got ripped through. Neither did malphite, neither did Voli. And again, assassins are squishy. They can be killed just as easily in their meta as off. The only reason assassin meta comes around is when their damage is bolstered. They still can be CC'd and instantly killed. Even if they got an item giving +1000 AD, one stun is all it takes.

Tanks come into play when their survivability is boosted. They still sport their same high damage, but now they just last much longer to deal it. You cannot CC them and nuke them. That is the key difference.

What's the difference between Zed jumping on your Jinx and Malphite jumping on your Jinx? Zed can be instantly stunned and killed or forced away. Malphite stays and kills her, or at least inflicts heavy damage and forces her away and takes all your CC and damage while the rest of the team wins the fight.

LordGeovanni1 votes

not if you build them like they are intended to be built they will be squishy if you build a full ap malphite to burst people he will die if he misses his burst or if carries survive it and voli does not burst you he has an execute after sustained damage.

Nahui1 votes

Malphite simply builds one AP item, IBG, then full tank and he can about 100-0 a squishy. His E has armor scalings so it still does large damage. And the AP item is typically Abyssal Scepter, so he still gets tanky from it.

Voli with his ult up will about kill a squishy right after they land from the flip. You gotta kill him before he kills you. That's what wasn't bad about the assassin meta. The killer is easy to kill. When the killer is a tank, it's not so easy.

LordGeovanni1 votes

the killer is easy to kill when you dead cause they kill you 0.5 seconds after spotting you or you they turn around when you start attacking them if you have hard cc you most likely dont have damage to finish them off and vice versa while if you a squishy and let a voli run up to you voli isnt the problem here he isnt dashing to or blinking to you and has to sustain damage that is easily countered even with out magic resist a small amount of life steal will counter it and most of volibear's kit in a 1v1 scenario

Frius2 votes

atleast assasins have 300-400 ad and kill someone fast ,but they are squishies themselves

i remember tanks ,especially sej easily soloing adc.

KyroRayne2 votes

I still easily solo ADCs as support Leona... so I don't see what you're going for with that?

LordGeovanni1 votes

half build a targons brace first item wits end second item thornmails or cinderhulk and her show offy sunsword acutally begins to hurt even with a null passive

KyroRayne1 votes

Not even...

I build item 3401 item 2049 item 3009 item 3068 and can normally solo an adc at that point mid game.

Late game depends on the adc, but my build is normally the same as above but with item 3025 item 3190 item 2045 (replace item 2049 )

LordGeovanni4 votes

adcs shouldnt be alone nor should they be able to beat tanks as tanks are supposed to counter damage carries and sustained damage fighters are supposed to counter tanks

Titanium702 votes

Looking at the poll: Tank META it is.

Still the first Cinderhulk was horrible! x'D However, after it got its first hit.. (we still had some kind of Tank-META) the game was simply AMAZING, I loved to play a game where everything from Urgot to Galio to Zac to Lee was viable and noone ever complained about a single pick!

When I have fun playing I'm stronger, by far - guess that's why I rushed to Diamond in no time. x'D Oh, such a glorious time, to bad we needed Juggernauts, Fiora and Assassins as T1 picks...

LordGeovanni2 votes

i still dont believe there was a tank meta i believe that fighters were played versus assassins and the assassin mains got mad that they couldnt burst and kill all the champions in a game in 1 combo anymore once they had their first back or hit 6

Big Lincoln1 votes

tank meta made games too drawn out and was basically decided on who could team fight better

assassin meta made tanks not exist when penetration was bullshit, and it's basically a game of who kills the carries first

both were awful

The Voids Call1 votes

I prefer the tank meta, not because of unkillable tanks, but rather it's the only meta which actually slows down the insane burst damage and minuscule time to kill, as a result of most powerful champions being low damage.

That said i'd prefer to just see all damage nerfed across the board, and have tanks knocked down equally, so that non-tank vs non-tank would be a longer fight, but a tank vs non-tank would stay about the same.

LordGeovanni1 votes

i still havent seen this tank meta yet i saw a meta where assassins only killed tanks in 1 combo half the time instead of all of the time but nothing like a tank meta where tanks couldnt die just that people didnt want to put in the 4 extra seconds beyond the first 2 to kill the tanks

Kaxi1 votes

Tank meta. Team fights were more prevalent because they were less of a risk.

Dirty Roleplayer1 votes

I prefer rainbow meta.

Kagagiou1 votes

Vi was my baby girl tank melting jungler that gave no F's or Teemos about anyone she ran across. Lvl 4 Dragon, then punch an ADC and I've never seen a pair of champions run so fast in my life, with or without ult, I've burned more flashes then... insert a Flash dance joke here somewhere.

Even with the tank meta, I built Vi as the Tank Killer. That was literally her WHOLE friggin' JOB. If a tank withstood Vi for 4 seconds, I called them a success... they were still DEAD, but a success all the same.

Assassin meta just seems more annoying to me, but then again... what are assassin's suppose to do? Not tickle. Burst a target, get moving then pick out another. Do people forget what Assassin means? I mean, I know Akali is all 'tank akali' now but seriously... ASSASSINS! C'MON! And it strangely makes games far quicker... as opposed to the 56 minute, "I'll never give up, and neither will my Duo partner, who cares if it's 98 to 3." Though to be honest, people are well... trolls. They wouldn't end the game because THEY are having fun, while the other team has the three AFK after trying to quit at 20, 30, 40 and all the times they can in between... AND THOSE 3 get reamed out for leaving in game when 2 are purposely keeping them there on a no win situation and other team is just running around playing 'TOUCHDOWN' and "Fountain Diver PENTA test GO!"

assassins are supposed to burst squishy targets in a combo not poke everyone or bust tanks

Vi didn't poke. And yes, she burst squishy targets so much faster. Was just able to burst down tanks too. People are so use to Tank Vi that going actual assassin with the damages seems to shock folks.

LordGeovanni1 votes

still going versus tanks you will have to poke or sustain the damage vi is a fighter in design sustained damage was always part of her design despite how people built her

Kagagiou1 votes

So they need to remove the 'assassin' part from her from what you're saying. Sort've like they need to add 'fighter' to Akali since everyone is building her tanky.

LordGeovanni1 votes

in not saying that they need to change anything im saying that building a champion a diffrent way doesnt chainge their intended role

i prefer season 3 and 4 when the game was actually balanced

idk what patch it was.. the one when ascended was out.. that one was perfect...

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

I like the marksmen meta, because now tanks AND assassins are highly viable. Mages are too but they really need itemization fixes, riot should just remove deathcap and hourglass.

HOLD YOUR HORSES, and add witchcap to summoner's rift.

Owlythe1 votes

Not a fan of either, but I'd take a Tank-Meta over a damn assassin meta any day.

Kitty Clarissa

Honestly i prefer no meta, Since with no meta you can play who you want .. But in tank meta i kinda prefer sometimes assassin meta since IF you put assassins behind they are useless mid-late game. With assassin meta i can pick people who punish mistakes vs tank meta where i does not matter they are too tanky to deal with in the 1st place . then again tank meta is were people were more bulky and hard to kill. after 1 nerf to cinderhulk the game was actually balanced like EVERYONE from Zyra Galio Akali ETC were viable and was more fun. Now its just not really fun seeing only blue Ezreal Zed Yasuo MasterYi bruiser Akali tank Fiora tank
Lucian Graves

and much more i see one of those listed in every game nowadays and its boring i want someone new at least to show UP HELL. ID love to fight a Yorick Aatrox Illaoi Heimerdinger Gnar ETC these champs and more since at least i can learn something new.

I just want a meta where everyone is playable for new players mainly so they dont have to feel they have to play X or they lose
