Instead of buffing braindead-but-strongAF champs, maybe change their gameplay a little?

I can not understand why Riots buffing some champions that do not need buffs..

I saw Master Yi getting buffed..why? With a max build he can AA you 4 times with his passive and jungle item and guinsoo in a second and deal almost 500 true damage..his W is a free heal/damage reduction ability, his Q is a better version of zhonya that also deals damage, his E empowers his basic attacks and gives him free AD (like he needs it) and deals true damage and lastly his R gives him some free stats.. Do you find this kind of champion funny? "Oh but his winrate and pick rare is low" Maybe because 1 his gameplay is boring, the champion is boring and he doesn't have any skill expressive ability so people just give up on the champion after a game or two so 2 that's why he doesn't have a high pick rate.He is a boring champion that only mentally challenged people play in order to get out of bronze-mid plat I would say,if you main Yi and are higher that plat then you are a pathetic player.

Look at Annie...what can't she do? Mage with infinite harass, easy cs (probably the easiest of any Mage with her Q refund mana and 200 damage level 3) AOE damage and an AOE R that once she hits with her passive it's GG,honest to god she can kill you once she hits 6 with QWR and ignite without needing to use her passive and her brain obviously since they only skill shot she has is her R which lets be real,if you believe her R is a skillshot you're probably someone that also likes playing Yi.

Why not change the already overpowered champions instead of buffing them so their pick rates rise up slightly? Make them interesting, fucking make that Annie Q a skillshot with higher damage and a longer cd,fucking remove the damage reduction from her E and make it a damage ability and then tone her down a bit since she would have a third damage ability...she has fire..make her abilities burn, not her E only.. Nerf that retarded Yi I can't think of anything tbh, change his W damage reduction maybe and increase his healing each time he levels up so in early game he loses some hp or doesn't gain much when he uses W..Now he can W all your damage away and get heath back..maybe make him dash wish his Q and then strike nearby enemies...make him "hittable" late game..

I don't think it would be fair to a lot players to make the game entirely about mechanical skills like landing skillshots and doing combos.

Let's compare Yi to Lee Sin for example. Lee is much harder mechanically then Yi as I'm sure everyone would agree but that doesn't make him less braindead in then Yi in every aspect. Lee for example has the ability ward hop out of trouble if he makes a bad engage where as Yi doesn't have that luxury and needs to engage at precisely the right moment or he'll blow up. Lee also doesn't need to worry about farm too much as long as he ganks well whereas Yi needs to be as efficient as possible in earning gold or he'll be useless. Taking away some of Yi's steroids that make him a strong carry and replacing it else would be alienating him from away those players who shine through engaging wisely and farming efficiently rather then simply being able to execute tough mechanics.

Honestly not even gonna read, your title is so true but will never happen people can't understand that if a champion is so simple there maybe no counter play to them so they either beat you or they don't that is not healthy for the game. I'm not saying make champions super difficult just give them counter play.

BEK Makadur1 votes

There is counter play for every single champ...

3TWarrior1 votes

Zoe's best counter was Twisted Fate, one of the weakest mages in the game, whose only exceptional skill is his roaming potential and map control, which mean little unless the team can work with it

champions might have counterplay, but a lot of new champions have counter-counterplay in their kits

Kai Guy4 votes

Here is a problem I see. A lot of folks take complicated to mean OVERLOADED OMG WTF RITO. Simplistic abilitys can and are strong depending on their numbers. Theres low counter play. Garren kit # are strong? dudes a beast. Volibear ? same thing.

Zoe passives stronger then Lux despite on paper being weaker. Why? Because she can trigger it reliably, and more frequently, its easier and its simpler.

Akali Passive? If we make it just like luxs, hit ability empower your next atuo vs that target. We remove the circles, we remove the MS, we remove the Range enhancement, we remove the energy recovery. We take all this out of her kit, make it a really simple Hit ability hit auto. Well then I have to say then ITS FUCKING STRONGER FOR HER despite losing 3 free stat boosts, lowering the skill cap to trigger it makes it superior.

People need to stop hating on complex ability as gated requirements and mechanic execution can make a stronger ability have counter play for opponents. Annie setting up stacks, flash REQ has low counter play, shes got the #s or items to do it and your dead, or she does not and shes weak.

People bitch about 1 shots. But back in the day Veigar Tristana had ranged point and click that put out over 1k damage. QR would gib folks on fat veigar (both where point and click) ER was enough to instantly kill most squishy champions as an AP Trist and you could see it get up to 2k damage.

Tahminatrix 3 votes

Literally half the champions in this game could use a higher skill cap. Illaoi The only meaningful skillshot she has is her E...everything else is decision based which isn't bad until you realize its because youre not allowed to do more, youre not allowed to mechanically outplay someone.

But when you only hit enemy champions by hitting EVERYWHERE at once with your passive and hoping someone on your team cc`s them then you have a problem, it would be nice if her W was a small aoe that she can target near her on the ground so she can choose where her tentacles hit more easily.

Leona, Udyr Morg and fid all have plenty of skill expression Brand does too, just it doesn't really matter that much since so much of his power budget is in his passive.

HaIlMonitor2 votes

I disagree. Most of those champions only have 1 skillshot, and then the rest of the kit is just happens because of that.

Udyr is the only one with out skillshots, but lets be honest he basically is singed but blows you up. He runs from everything, he does whatever, but then he will blow you up in 2 seconds if when he gets next to a squishy.

Champs don't need skillshots to be skillfull. It can be skillfull to know your champ and kit even if it seems easy from outside. I would say you can "master" every champ. And every champ will be hard and skillfull if you play him with and against the best of the best. I am otp Voli and I learned so much tricks and tactics with him over the years. Its more than just running into people and flip them. I think it's harder to climb with Voli than with some super agile "skill"-champ like Zed or so... Actually I think its harder to climb with nonagile "easy"-kit-champs in general. Because you have worse escape for example. If you make a bad decision, you are dead. Mobile champs or champs with stealthmechanics like shacko can make a ton of bad decisions and still get away.

At Master+ every player has reached the micro-skillcap of his champ anyway, no matter if it's Yi or Zed. What counts in higher Elo is MACRO GAME. I recently read a blog from a progamer who played in Korea. He said the Korean pros aren't much better in micromanagement than the NA pros. They are both at the cap. But Makro-Tactics are WAY better and more complex there. That's the real deal, because macro cap is way higher than micro cap.

Straight forward champs can be super fun. I don't want LoL to be a game where EVERY champion has a complex kit with skillshots and stuff!!

Frosted Tips1 votes

They don't have to be super complex but they need to show more skill expression besides hey do I win this fight or not. Having one or two combos/ fighting style is not balanced because if the champion is worse than another one dimensional champion than there is no point to play them. Also having right click me to death while invincible is great. Getting harassed by a point click high damage ability is great. mindless running around and being unkillable is so fun to play against.

BigFBear1 votes

But you can't make champions stronger just because they are harder to learn. That would mean, that someone who master that champ have better chances to win Everytime!

Frosted Tips1 votes

Not what I'm saying I'm not saying make harder champions better I'm saying make all oversimplified champion a tiny bit complex.

3TWarrior1 votes

what about her Q ? though I suppose it's more on the opponent to let it hit, but at the same time, picking the right moment wil let it hit as well; the problem with it though is that any mobility will escape its width

Tahminatrix 1 votes

I already like her q as is because it can be used in conjunction with her W in order to mind**** her opponent into trying to dodge everything and it will always do full damage compared to her many other tentacles slamming down at once.

it's more the type of rediculous things they give champs.. like Zoe... wtf was riot thinking.. People aren't necessarily crying about complex gameplay.. They are complaining about that complex gameplay being disgustingly broken and 1 sided when they do put it in.

Need Gold 4 Tent3 votes

Macro intensive vs micro intensive. You can afford to fuck up with decision making on champs that have overloaded kits that just happen to be difficult on the fingers, once you master the micro. If you make a wrong decision on a Shyvana/Garen/Yi, you're not getting out of that situation alive.

Lee Sin: Mmmm... juicy lone ADC... (no wards on map) Oh shieeet it's 1v5! Nvm I'll W to that ward. Ahhh, I got caught by Blitz hook but I kick him to his team so it's k. Oh no, they cornered me but my Q back up so I'ma Q blue buff. Lata bitchezzz

Garen: Mmmm... juicy lone ADC.... (no wards on map) Oh shieet 1v5 - tank for 4 seconds and dieded.

3TWarrior1 votes

funny thing is that immobile champions reward better decision making (well, in a lot of cases. Sometimes they're just too much) and mobile champions punish their opponents for making bad decisions without punishing the player for their own mistakes, depending upon context

A lot of the complicated champions you can watch a video on how to play as them and copy what they do until it becomes muscle memory, then it's no longer really even a skill but just something you do

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

Decision making: i.e. macro. Yi winning through statcheck (though there is a lot of high level micro to Yi than the community would believe but let's just assume he is 100% statcheck) is a result of a number of good decisions he made throughout the game, that eventually got him to that point. The ability to statcheck is his reward for that, yet his statcheck is static, so if he makes a bad decision at that point and runs into an opponent he cannot fight, he's gonna die. For sure, because he has no safety nets of slippery mechanics for outplay. The pressure is on him to make sure he never gets into those situations in the first place. This is a lot harder than practicing mechanics because you make decisions based on certain information you don't actually have (i.e. is this warded, should I be sneaking dragon, where is Kha Zix, etc...)

It is a double edged sword, because it means when you are losing, you will never win by brute forcing your way through bad situations with mechanics + overloaded kits. When you lose, you lose. When you win, you win.

There has to be champions that are simpler in their designs and kits so that new players to a role or the game can easily find out how to play the game or a role. I am totally for changing some of these champs, but I am just letting you know that in games like League there has to be a simpler champ or whatever that has a simple design so a player can focus on learning and improving on the game or role.

And just in general, Yi is always getting buffed or nerfed a lot because it is super hard to balance AA reliant champs. If you change one small thing on Yi you can either make him so overpowered that he is pick/ban, or you nerfed him so much that he is beyond useless. Yi is one of those champs that as long as you keep him behind he is super bad, but as soon as you get him a few kill early he can easily carry the game. Which is another reason why he is so stat checky.

This is the dumbest bullshit reasoning, that I've seen constantly on these boards since Beta...

Why can't a player pick a champ they like and just.. idk.. maybe get good? practice? Do you really think you're helping that degenerate brain dead player by giving him a brainless champ like Yi, boosting him into Gold, then he tries to play another champ and gets utterly ass wrecked until he's back into bronze, only to pick up yi again out of frustration and become a yi main? You seriously think that's helping new players?

Here's a fking thought.. maybe people aren't as stupid as you think they are, and maybe... people can pick up a skill based champ and idk.. practice them in norms, and get good with them? Gee what a fking glorious idea!

There is nothing wrong with a new person using and learning a complex champ, I am just saying that if they want to learn about the game without having to worry about complex combos as much then they can improve more at the game and get to the point when they can land in the high plat-diamond area in ranked. I am totally for letting a new player try and learn a complete champ, I am just saying that it would be easier if they used a simple champ to learn the startagy of the meta or the game overall

BEK Makadur1 votes

Wtf is wrong with you.

I love to play “simple“ champs, especially tryndamere and mundo. Not all people like micro game, I love macro.

Btw I would most likeky beat you even with diana, just because skill is not only mechanical.

The easier a champ ist, the easier he can be outplayed.

Akso i wouldn't talk about “simple/easy“ champs when i main Diana which has 1 Skillshot...

I think there also have to be simpler kits because a lot of the more complicated kits are just boring

I think this every time they inevitably buff Olaf and Gragas for not being in pro play for more than 20 seconds

The Goodest Boy2 votes

this has been bothering me for such a long time. does riot really think champs like yi, trynd, garen, etc etc had such low win and pick rates because they were simply weak? no dude, its because their kits are so straightforward and braindead that it comes down to "do you have enough stats to win when you click on them? y/n" and thats it.

DON'T ADD NUMBERS TO THEIR KITS, ADD MECHANICS SO THEY AREN'T ONE GIANT STAT CHECK!!!! If you buff a champ like Yi, hes a god. You nerf him, he switches right back to trash because hes ALL stats. I don't know why its so hard for riot to get this.

Need Gold 4 Tent2 votes

These champs are more punishing when played badly in the macro sense, they do not have the fall-backs of an overloaded kit gated only by mechanical difficulty. In fact, I'd argue that macro play is much harder to learn than micro play, which is basically just spending an hour a day in practice tool doing combos. So many unique situations, with different champion matchups, game conditions that you have to play differently every game, not just execute the fastest combo delete to work on every champ. Some people prefer playing LoL like chess, not everyone wants to play Street Riven Fighter button mashing LoL (which is what LoL has degenerated into with all the reworks).

The Goodest Boy1 votes

I think you're right in saying macro is harder to learn than micro, as there are no obvious signs you're playing macro wrong (like being hit by a skillshot) But I would also argue both SHOULD be important, as this is a video game where people want to have fun on different characters; and not chess.

I think the main problem right now is that Riot cannot for the life of them find a decent balance between micro and macro.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

The thing is, people assume that macro heavy champs are "brain dead" which is not true. What the players of these champs are doing is focusing on their next moves in the game, not how to press QWER as fast as humanely possible. In fact, I'd argue that those mechanical champs would be brain dead once their combos have registered into your muscle memory because you aren't even thinking about anything, just executing a standard combo.

I mean, I believe the reason MOST people cannot climb is due to macro. There's a reason why so many posts "I got fed but my team sux" is an indicator of bad macro, but like you said, you can't tell what you're actually doing wrong so you think "it must be the team". They might be mechanically adept, to crush lane/jungle/whatever but their decision making later on might have thrown the game or contributed to it.

The Goodest Boy1 votes

I think people wouldn't be too far off in calling a champion like Yi or Trynd braindead. Their gameplay essentially boils down to clicking on their enemy and killing them. The player playing them, however, is not necessarily braindead; and may be massively outplaying their opponent in macro play. I think player frustration towards braindead or "simple" champions being so high comes down to 2 things:

1. Riot never actually teaches players even the basics of macro play and doesn't promote them as important gameplay. Look at the champion spotlight videos. They tell you how a champions kit works, and how to play them in a teamfight/general sense. No mention of powerspikes, when to push or play safe, when to build aggro or defensively, good and bad matchups, etc etc. This leaves macro play as something utterly foreign to most low tier players, when any high tier player can tell you that macro play is a huge part of League. If you've ever played in gold or below; you know people in those tiers treat the game as a 5v5 deathmatch. They never push or do objectives because they aren't told to.

2. League has recently become heavily geared towards damage/micro play, and it's hurting the game. With recent changes, focusing on nothing but micro play has been pretty much all but endorsed by Riot. Normally, on a character like Garen for example, he is very good at tanking insane amounts of damage and being hard to push out of lane. These strengths were once offset by the fact that that was ALL you did. Didn't matter if you were 20/0, if you let the game draw out too long; you were useless because you lacked meaningful damage and mobility. This meant if you stopped him from pushing and gangbanged him out of lane, he'd be set back.

But recently, as the game has shifted more and more towards every character doing near one shot damage, Garen has lost a few of his weaknesses. Not only is he too braindead to even try and 1v1/1v2 because he melts as much as anyone else, with towers being weaker than ever he can easily transition to pushing. And even with everyone level 18, Garen can still crush your backline without a care.

So basically, macro- based characters and macro in general is being slowly phased out of League, and I fucking hate it.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

To be fair on Riot though, macro play is far too extensive to be taught in the mini spotlight. Wave management alone took SRO, I think 2 videos to cover. On top of that, macro in my opinion, especially involves matchups because that also dictates relative power spikes, which also implies you not just need to know your champ, you'd have to know the entire fukking roster.

It's far easier to explain that "Master Yi uses Alpha Strike to gap close or dodge CC" than "Master Yi's level 2 is stronger than most of the roster, so you should be invading early to gain a lead on the enemy jungler. however, avoid jax and udyr because they will rape you, watch for the enemy laner's locations and monitor their movements to predict if you have been spotted etc etc..."

Too many uncertain factors to deal with, on top of the sheer volume of information to cram in, I'd say let the newbies learn about it from the challenger streams who have done it already. However, Riot should place an emphasis on its importance, as in "You should also learn this to fully master the basics" and let them do their own research.

The Goodest Boy1 votes

Yeah you're definitely right. It's a lot of info, and I would never expect riot to tell me all of it. In my opinion they just need to bring attention to the fact that it's there at all.

The heroes of the storm YouTube channel, for instance, has a few tutorial videos for beginners. These videos explain the basics of things like kiting, team fighting, when to get objectives and when to push and fight, etc etc. Im super happy one company is doing this (even though it's for a moba I objectively hate, I sill love the effort)

If riot could do something even baseline like that, I think it would be a great help to the community at large. I want this game to have the strategic element back so bad...

Hi mentally challenged player here how about you stfu?

  • His Q is a better zhonya's? alright so let's make zhonya's do the following then: "turn gold and flip a coin wether or not you dodge enemy abilities"
  • His W is free heal and damage reduction..... It also stops him from moving. like wtf even, WW has a free dmg reduction, so do garen, leona, shen, poppy, tham, jax, fiora, irelia etc... basically every tank/bruiser. -his gameplay is boring? you might not be mentally challenged like us yi players, but you sure as hell are stupid as fuck. Fun is completely subjective.
  • Low pick rate & Winrate actually does mean he's not doing well.
  • "If you main yi at an elo where people aren't as retarded as me and actually know how to play against him you're pathetic" is pretty much what you're saying.

  • She doesn't have infinite harass, if she uses her Q on you it doesn't refund jack shit. She's also a midrange mage, not an artillery mage. -Easy CS, no shit? she's supposed to teach you how to play mages. -She literally has to walk up to you, with an indicator above her head that warns you about it. It's also somewhat dodgeable if you have the tools, especially since the changes to it a while ago.

Just cuz you refuse to understand that counterplay goes further than "dodge the skillshot" and skill goes further than "land the skillshot" doesn't mean that's how it works. 90% of the champs in this game are fairly easy to pickup, maybe not to master but that's a whole different thing.

If these braindead overpowered champs were actually that broken why isn't Pro play full of it? why aren't they the top performers in their role?

Yi statistically is fine, his winrate and banrate are both dropping since this patch went live. He's easy, he's a pubstomper, but saying he has absolutely no skill expression is BS. He's only oneshotting you if he went full damage and got to late game (or extremely ahead, which he shouldn't cuz he's garbage early). At that point you get to 1 shot him too, his W isn't gonna save him from that. If he did opt into tank items he's also doing less damage. He's got the same counterplay as Marksmen.

Annie has as much skill expression as most other mages have. Most mages outrange her so they get to outpoke her easily.

Nevrankroaton1 votes

Did you call Annie "A character with infinite harass"?

It is like saying "Hum guys, since urgot has a ranged AA, he actually has an infinite harass when fighting other bruiser top".

Everything you said is just "I don't like Annie, because I don't like Annie I will oversimply her kit and make it look too strong and say that it is too easy and dumb so it shouldn't exist". We already said we can make everyone sound op this way.

"OMG Zilean is so dumb, he can slow me so he can guarantee his double bomb combo, every time he put a bomb I am zoned 10000 meter away and these bombs have an insane 1 AP RATIO, ARE YOU CRAZY RIOOT? And when I finally skillfully combo him, this dumb champ press R, pffff Riot, freaking change his kit please".

How about Annie low range on her spell? How about her using her Q to Cs actually give you an easy window to trade her out? How about Annie has no mobility or sustain whatsover, that her E is a kind lackluster defensive ability made to prepare her passive, that she is flash dependant, that she is an easy target to pick up, that her range is WEAK making her easy to be zoned/respected.

But noooo, "She can press R and her ultimate is an AOE so it can be an AOE stun!". Whou. Next time, I will explain to riot how to nerf my main urgot because "This man has a RANGED EXECUTE? ALLO? DID YOU SEE THE RANGE? AND IF I DON'T DIE YET, HE SLOW ME SO HE CAN HURT ME SO HE CAN EXECUTE ME? IT IS CRAZY".

Idc about the Yi rant because hey, a master yi rant on gameplay is like breathing shit outside, a common thing.

3TWarrior1 votes

I like zilean, but I will admit that there was very BRIEFLY a point in his lifetime where he had too much control. He could do anything he wanted and escape using his ultimate

Axzarious1 votes

Annie has a high degree of burst and yes, she has her stun, but her range is also short compared to other mages. She's also got weaknesses people don't capitalize on in lower Elo, just like Garen, Udyr, Yi, Tryndamere, and other simple, "Braindead" champions who will often get demolished to the point of irrelevancy in professional play. As you climb higher you'll find that you'll need a much better grasp of the basics and fundamentals of the game to actually win, because you can't rely on your fancy kit with your dashes to save yourself from an error in positioning.

If you haven't mastered the fundamentals when you get higher in the bracket, an annie or garen or whatever braindead champion who got there using them, and know their champion well? They'll take you apart the moment you step out of line.
