Clicker gods, how is it fair or balanced at all?

So, I just don't understand some of the game design decisions at Riot. The "balance" that exists in this game is just atrocious, at least in my mind.

Say you have a full build Jayce (relies on abilities rather than clicking) and a full build Vayne, Ashe, Draven or anything like that. Now, have Jayce use all his abilities, and time how long it takes, and keep track of the damage. Now, have any ADC just auto attack for the same duration, and watch as they do 5-6x the damage of the Jayce -- in what world is that balanced? Shouldn't less effort/skill required give a lesser reward? Today I was playing Ezrael against a Draven, and just ONE auto attack from him did more damage than my ult's tooltip. Why would anyone design a game so that auto attacks are the gods of damage?

... Along that same line, why can tanks build all armor/HP/MR and still 100-0 you in less than three seconds?

I just don't understand how this game is "balanced" at all.

Im guessing OP would complain about how Paper beats Rock everytime..." I don't understand how this is balanced at all"

...but it actually is relevant. If a champion is harder to play, and has more points of weakness, then shouldn't they be stronger under optimal circumstances?

How are measuring "stronger" then. Having more flexibility is a strength in its own right. If they have more weaknesses, then they can be allowed to be stronger, since their conditions to actually be strong would tend to be more difficult to accomplish. To me, it sounds like you are only making a very specific comparison, as different champions offer different things.

No.

Its a game, its meant to be fun. Champions should be diverse to allow people of all sorts to find what works for them. Some will turn out to be more difficult to play well then others, that is fine, but they should not be better just because they are harder to play.

stuartk111 votes

...Yeah they should. If they turn out to be more difficult to be successful, and easier for your opponent to deal with what it is that you are bringing, then that champion would not have the same strength as a champion with little counterplay. This is the main reason targeted spells have less range and utility than skillshots. It's also why mages tend to have higher ranges than ADCs (usually). If there is more difficulty and challenge, then there is going to be more pay-off. If it was the same, then there is little reason to bother with the more difficult champion.

Again no.

Its simply the nature of building kits, some kits will be easier to use then others but just because a kit is harder to use doesn't mean it should be stronger.

If a kit is harder to use, then there is little purpose in picking it over another with little risk, but same level reward. Your entire logic is flawed balance-wise.

Different people like to play this game in different ways. Most people play for fun, they choose champions that they like for their character, how they look, how they sound, their backstory, how they can make jokes with them, and how their kit feels. Every kit feels different to play, some people find some easy kits hard to play because it just doesn't feel right to them, some people easily pick up very hard to use kits because it just comes natural for them.

Just because a kit is more difficult to use doesn't mean that is should be stronger over a more easy to use kit, this creates an unbalance of power in the game where everyone who just wants to win picks the high skill cap champions because they are just plain overpowered.

No, because that would make them dominant once their Mains mastered them.

so you're saying Jayce gets to use abilities and those champions just AA and you think the damage is going to be equal? I'm gonna go with Jayce wins because he's got an automatic 2.5 attack speed button so he'll get more autos off.

Jayce was a bad example, you should have said Syndra or something, but yes, ADC champs get to do more damage than every other champ simply by right clicking. They also don't have mana costs on autos, and can't miss their autos. It's why ADC is the only absolutely required role in competitive play.

Also, the reason tanks are one shotting you is because you're not building any health or resistance lol.

Ever hear of 'the best offense is a solid defense'? Same case here. They're building so much resistances and health that you do no damage, while you have none so it seems like they do a lot of damage.

Don't play DoTA 2 then. Their skills don't scale at all.

Because their entire kits revolve around enhancing their basic attacks, basic attacks don't go on cooldown and can be pumped out quickly, and or marksmen are meant to deal sustained damage. Take your pick.

I don't see Draven chunking teams for half health from like 1500 range

Gigahappytown1 votes

If your being outdamaged as jayce by a marksman your build is trash.

Guyy Fieri1 votes

Ok...first off...Draven is harder than Jayce. Second, all of the ADCs you mentioned are sustained damage champions. They are meant for that. Jayce (the way I see it) is a poke champion with some kill finishing potential and some disengage. Jayce's strength is in whittling down the opponents' health bars at a distance before the fight actually begins to enable easier killing. I understand that there may be some viable comparisons that work, but this one does not. Jayce is not meant to be an ADC like the other you mentioned which is why his damage is more poke oriented.
