What went behind the decision to Nerf Ap Based champions?

Teemodanegro··3 votes·441 views

The average ap mid laner now builds RoA / Rylias due to both of them being two the highest ap items in the game. But the problem with this is that both these items include heavy health stats. This pushes the mid lane to be more of an AP bruiser with health pools well over 2.5k hp late game.

Was this intended? (If so, why?)

Why did you move away from glass cannon AP mid lane ideology?

Why has the average AP of mid-late game champions gone down so much? (I know, blue buff and drags... But why was AP the one who got affected the most?)

y rito?

Cause Riot is biased towards the AD side and doesn't know what the hell they are doing. I hate the changes.

zhonyas / athenes / abyssal scepter.... The only thing buffed was morellos.

They essentially buffed supports with the changes to the three items above. not to mention galio cant build athenes anymore (sidenote)

going from 120-70 ap is a buff. Math is a hell of a drug

Oh, are we ignoring the other changes that were made to the items? I guess its easier to argue if you ignore any inconvenient details

Oh yeah, the armor was nerfed. the Cost was increased and they lowered the ap on it 2 seperate times and THEN THE GAVE IT 10%CDR. AND THEY INCREASED THE COOLDOWN OF THE ACTIVE.

GOOD THING WE'RE NOT IGNORING THE CHANGES!

yes it is good, only took you two tries. Or does that count as 3.

zhonyas is now a CDR item. I'd gladly give armor and AP for that on alot of champs

sheep how?

You were just complaining about variety and yet you are mad when they let you use your spells 10% more often with new builds. You no longer have to struggle to get 40% CDR or build things you don't need. Keep in mind that the base also hits 10% more whereas 10% more AP is based off scaling alone.

I Never struggled to get 40% CDR because it was simple to buy some CDR per level runes and get maxed with 1 or 2 items.

Zhonyas never in my mind EVER identified as a CDR item. It was, and always will be AP. ARMOR. STASIS.

Well now you can do that OR you can go another direction. I prefer to, when i want to max cdr, go 10% get 20% from items then just get blue buff which now gives +15% AP which I believe stacks multiplicatively with Rabadons for 1.15*1.35 = 1.55 or 55% AP increase. Then you can get fire dragon on top of that.

item 3157 item 3089 item 3165 + blue buff is 70 + 120 + 100 = 290 + 55% AP + 40% cdr

that's 449.5 AP +40% CDR with all the mana most will ever need right there.

The lost AP is a small price to pay. Swap those cdr runes for earlygame AP or if you like you can swap that item 3165 for item 3100 item 3092 item 3115 item 3001 item 3158 or just skip the last 10% altogether

I'd much rather have 3k health and 650 Ap then, 700 AP and 2k health.

Helps me be much tankier while also still dishing out about the same damage.

Teemodanegro1 votes

What im saying is you're never going to get 650 ap with any other stats. 650 ap is almost max amount at the moment. (with boots.)

there are currently 4 rabadon effects in the game. I find that hard to believe.

But also who really needs that much AP?

Teemodanegro1 votes

The reason for this thread isn't to ask who wants or needs that much ap. Just why would they take the option out of the game to have that much ap.

If someone went glass cannon, its clear they're gonna deal damage and take damage.

Now there is simply one build path.

I go glass, I have no issue with that. I'm not building extremely tanky. I might get rylais but I'm not usually going any further than that unless their damage is just that extreme or my team is shit at protecting me.
