Bringing back the tank supports; Reinstate Promote

Redemption, i'm happy to say, has reinvigorated the Support role. It really is a magical time where the hard carries are crying because "Supports suck and can't carry" but somehow "Redemption prevents all of my kills."

I don't have a dog in that fight, really. I play tank supports by trade, and even though we're currently in the hurt locker, I do have fun. Having said that, we need an item that gives us some breathing room in the laning phase so we don't get dumped on early, and so our mobility isn't an issue late game. To this end, i'm recommending a 4th GI item that has a Promote active.

I'm aware that Promote was removed because of absue. But it would give us the ability to push the lane a little more safely in our poke meta, and make up for our lack of mobility with some late-game split potential. I'd recommend gating it in the same way Jungle items are. I.e. create a summoners that allows us to buy this item, but that wouldn't greatly benefit other roles.

Typically, the burden of a lost Summoners, and an item slot gone prevents people from taking things.

Banner of Command has pretty much the same functionality as Promote.

If you are playing a tank support, I would recommend building: item 3302 -> item 2049 -> item 3512 since It is much better for gold generation and map pressure.

ruby sightstone always

I get Ruby Sightstone eventually, but you generally want to finish at least one utility item before upgrading it.

The reduced item active CD is rather useful. For ~20s, you have can two Zz'rot Portals out and pushing lanes for you.

Did you read my post?

Tank supports have two problems:

  1. It's a poke meta and we're not as viable.
  2. We move slowly.

Giving us some "range" via a minion is a nice shoring up of both.

Promote was generally used for lane pressure and had farming as a side-benefit.

Zz'rot Portal is superior for both purposes and the Promote active still exists in the game on a support item.

Sacrificing Exhaust for the Promote active would just be inefficient considering better options exist which don't require the sacrifice.

The problem your solution ignores is the first 20 mins.

Ha, well I've never taken a Banner on Naut, but the issue of laning still exists.
