Why are debuffs that increase damage acceptable but ones that reduce it are not?
Seems like a fairly big double standard to me.
If you'll notice, anything that has a debuff reducing damage tends to get nerfed or removed altogether. Nunu no longer has attack speed slows, Trundle has been nerfed on most everything but his debuffs (semi-thankfully), Nasus has had Wither's AS slow nerfed from a 1:1 to ratio to a 1:2 ratio. Sona's damage reduction power chord isn't often talked about despite it being fairly powerful. Urgot used to have passive damage reduction - removed. There aren't many "damage-reducing" debuffs to begin with. Frozen Heart got trashed because of its debuff aura, and Randuin's got shifted away from its debuff to reducing crits. Oh yeah, and we trashed Exhaust, too. edit: Trynd Mocking Shout reduces AD by up to 80 and we seem fine with it. Why is it a problem?
However, debuffs that increase damage are everywhere. It seems like every champion and their mother has a way to reduce armor, some of them also reducing MR. Amumu makes you take more damage from magic attacks, Vlad ult increases all damage dealt, Abyssal Mask exists for tanks to further raise magic damage from allies/themselves, and items like Black Cleaver are designed to be core items as a response to defensive builds.
It seems like a reasonable point of discussion. Why do you think this is the case? Why is one generally shunned but the other is so commonplace we hardly even notice it?
